United Kingdom | 20 March 2023I really regret writing this, as I do like to support local businesses, which I won't be doing again. On 10 March, 2023 I went into the store and ordered flooring, being told they come in 2 standard sizes, I picked the size I wanted. I asked in the store if the flooring was suitable for underfloor heating, and told it was. After paying over £1,000, I collected the flooring on 20 March only to be told by my builder they weren't suitable for the underfloor (electric) heating he was putting down, and it would warp the plastic in the boards I'd bought. Since the items were still boxed, I figured returning them wouldn't be a problem - boy, was I completely wrong! The owner and manager, Greg, told me I should have asked at the time of purchase whether or not I could get a refund and that the item was not refundable, because the supplier (Amtico) wouldn't take them back and the item was custom made and wouldn't match any of their other stock. It went back and forth for a while, but the end result is he was adamant that he wouldn't accept the items back. If the items were not refundable, I should have been informed at the time of purchase, but was not. Apparently this is my fault and I should ask every single time I buy something whether its refundable. I honestly don't know anyone who does this, do you? I've reported my experience to the Trading Standards Agency (as I believe I was sold something not fit for purpose) and I will never, ever, use this company again. I was also really disappointed in the manner in which I was spoken to. With Greg at one point correcting my pronunciation of "Amtico". At the end of the day, I'd just spent over £1k on something not fit for purpose and told I can't get a refund on it, this is obviously upsetting, so I don't really care how to pronounce the brand name. For him to correct me seemed petty, unnecessary, and unprofessional; but also a reflection of the overall conversation with him. As an update, I spoke to Amtico this morning who said 1 - they do take returns, so long as the item isn't from their signature range, and they have an agreement in place with the retailer (so I'm guessing Gainsborough Carpets doesn't have this agreement) 2 - the tiles, so long as they're from the same range (i.e. colour and size) should definitely match. So, in short, it's Gainsborough Carpets that won't give me a refund, but not for the reason they gave me over the phone, it's simply because they don't have an agreement with Amtico in place. I think if they'd just been honest about this, it would have led to a more amicable conversation. The main lesson I've learned here, is to use a reputable retailer in future.

United Kingdom | 26 June 2013I went there last year to get new carpet for my bedroom, nothing fancy, but i wanted it to last. I purchased a roll marked up as "Heavy Duty General" I have had the carpet for about a year and it is ruined. Poor quality. Will not be going there again. Staff were kind of helpful however and the showroom was clean and well presented
