Full disclosure: before the lockdowns I was number one fan at Home and Eat. Breakfast most days, weekend lunches. Loved the quirkiness and friendliness of the staff. Sadly, since opening up again it’s all changed for the worse. Yesterday was very probably the final straw. Having booked for a small family Sunday lunch, we arrived on time and were “welcomed” by a surly girly whose thought bubble (“I’d rather be anywhere but here right now”) was just a bit too obvious. There were plenty of young staff in there looking very smart in their shiny new uniforms, ostensibly “led” by a smiley, slightly older lady who was dashing around to no obvious purpose. A couple sitting nearby were waiting (very) patiently to pay, and we were simply ignored. For twenty five minutes. (I’m a geek, I counted). Impossible to attract even the merest eye contact with a staff member. Rule number one in hospitality: friendly welcome, drinks order within 5 minutes. It was 2 p.m. and not even busy as England were playing Croatia. After said twenty five minutes of being apparently completely invisible, we upped and left. Guys, you have a shiny new website and booking system, but this is absolutely pointless if you’re going to treat customers like this. I was a £2k a year customer, but won’t be coming back again. There are much friendlier and more welcoming places to eat out in Bishop’s Stortford right now. Sorry.

We went to home&eat on Sunday 9th may for roast dinner advertised on website for 11.95. When we got there price was 14.50 it was so disappointing everything was so cold it was untrue.Do not go there for Sunday roast

Superb food, the all day breakfast is the best. The courtyard is like sitting somewhere in the med. When the sun is out.The service exceptional, Mark is a superstar. Thank you. See you again soon.

Fabulous lunch with a friend today, made even better by the excellent service from the staff, particularly Mark who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and looked after. Cant wait to return. The Yard is the perfect spot for finally being able to meet up with friends.

Went to collect some food today for a brunch. Was lovely and still very hot when I got back to Newport! Maybe you could deliver?! Support local during these hard times!

First port of call for breakfast/brunch with my family and friends. Amazing food and cakes and great atmosphere. Dog friendly and even a shopping are that sells little bits

Just love this place. Food is always good. The staff are friendly and attentive and the covid measures are excellent. Really unusual gift ideas and hot tubs to drool over.

Fantastic store could spend an afternoon in there! Beautiful unusual items that you wouldn’t find on the high st ,and some you would ! Staff are great friendly and helpful. They also have a lovely restaurant, which is very COVID proficient.

Fantastic place to eat, excellent covid regulations. Mark at front of house is so friendly and makes you feel welcome and safe. He absolutely makes the place! 5 stars!!!

Bishops stortford...... very strict (as they should be) with covid regulations but all done with good humour, great efficiency and professionalism. I feel very safe in very pleasant environment. Huge praise to your 'front man' Mark who really deserves a gold medal for doing his job so well and in such a lovely manner. Well done.

Had breakfast at home and eat with all the family food was amazing we was looking for somewhere local to bishop Stortford it’s a great spot and the staff are really friendly and helpful

We visit almost every weekend and have always been greeted by friendly staff. The food is great and it's an added bonus to get to have a look at all the little treasures inside. It's a one way system and all social distance measures work well. See you the weekend 🙂⭐ Lyndsey, Dan and x2 kids

Great place to pop in for a nice big breakfast or their amazing burgers and salads for lunch! Handy for gifts and your hot tub essentials too.

Just had a lovely breakfast here. The decor is fantastically eclectic and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. Ordered a vegan breakfast (which wasn’t on the menu) but this was catered for no problem. Great atmosphere and plenty of parking. Covid precautions effortlessly maintained. Will be back soon!

Lovely welcome at the door and their COVID precautions are top notch, one way systems & sanitiser etc. Quick friendly service and delicious cakes. Definitely recommend! ⭐️
