Decided to purchase a Vango Assynte 200 hiking tent from Summits Outdoor as they were selling at a discounted price. Had not previously purchased from this company but Summits exceeded my expectation in terms of easy of purchase through their website, with post-purchase update information and on delivery time (two days, free postage). I've only set the tent up in the garden so far (lockdown has prevented anything more than this) and it is quick and easy to pitch - probably 10 mins max with practice. It appears to be well made with good quality materials for the tent and outer fly and the design makes it very sturdy once set up. A real plus is that the inner and fly can pitch together so in poor weather you don't get the inside soaked while setting up. The inner tent consists of less mesh material than some backpacking tents so it is a little weighty (3kg total) although this is not a deal breaker for taking on multi-day trips unless you need to go seriously minimal weight. The advantage is that the tent will be warmer and should be true 4 season (in the UK) even in the north of the country in winter. I would say the Assynte is probably more suited to Autumn through late spring use in most of the UK and it may be too warm for some in the summer. That said, it has very good ventilation available via covered mesh "windows" that can be opened up and of course you could always leave the main door open a bit. I tried putting the tent and fly in a compression sack and it squashed down a treat so I could slide it down the back of the rucksack and it did not take up too much space at all. The fly covers the whole inner right to the ground so there is no gap at ground level for snow or driving rain to get through. The overall design is good and the interior has adequate space due to the dome-style construction. The Assynte 200 is advertised as a 2 person tent and it will indeed hold two people - at a push. You would not have a lot of room for gear, rucksacks etc inside however. As a one person tent the Assynte 200 is perfect - plenty of room for sleeping and storing gear and the large porch section offers shelter from the rain etc when cooking. One down side is that Vango do not include a footprint with the tent and these are always worth using if you are not camping on the soft grass at a "proper" campsite. But you can easily make one for a few quid from builders' polythene or something similar. For the price (certainly Summits' price) I think the Assynte 200 is a bargain. It's a bit heavier than other equivalent tents but it has advanced features, is well made, easy to pitch and it should last a decent time if looked after properly.
