Honestly, the customer service was shocking I wish I got the woman's name she was very rude to me on the phone and dismissive. Firstly I rang the company because I didn't have the policy in my emails as I'm going travelling again. 45 minutes on hold, 3 days of phone calls, they were deciding whether to cancel my policy as I had "broken the stay period" in the UK. Due to me coming home in July to get my covid 19 injections, the period should've been 6 weeks but I was able to get it down to 4, as I had to quarantine on my trip back from Europe I was in the UK for around 45 days and was only allowed 14 days. The policy does not allow this, which is frankly ridiculous bearing in mind that I'm sure they wouldn't cover me abroad if I had to complete a hospital stay DUE TO COVID. Disgusted with the treatment of this case and how it has been handled, for a premium policy especially!

United Kingdom | 07 June 2021Quick cheap quotes. Staff were helpful able to explain the policy and make sure it covered what I needed. There was a mistake with the start date but this was very quickly changed.

United Kingdom | 18 March 2021Cheap longterm insurance - Seems good for IEC programme participants. This is by far the cheapest 2 years worldwide travel insurance. The coverage seems decent and seems to provide adequate protection. However, I can not comment on the claims process or whether the company is fair in processing claims.

United Kingdom | 12 October 2020I reviewed this co. in January after my son took out insurance with them for his travelling this year. My review is even on their website! Like virtually everyone else, he now has a claim in for cancelled air trips back to the UK, all legitimately covered and whilst I accept everything is delayed, this co. took 5 months to send him a nonsensical email suggesting the claim was not covered. A complaint has been made to the customer relations team set out in the policy and over a month later has not even been acknowledged, never mind answered. A further email to MAPFRE's CEO has been ignored. This co is in breach of its FCA obligations relative to the handling of complaints now. This will end up with the Financial Ombudsman if not resolved quickly. Now a very poor experience. Quick to the take money, slow to pay out.........

My trip cancellations are not covered because its government advice! I only wanted to recoup some of the lost airfare. Insurance is a complete waste of money

United Kingdom | 02 December 2019I am currently in Canada, and required travel insurance for the full two years I'm here in order to obtain my youth work permit. Backpacker was one of the cheapest so I contacted them and asked if I'll be able to cancel if I only decided to stay a year instead of two years, and was told yes over the phone. I am mad at myself for believing the agent's word and not reading the policy in depth, as this was not the case. I think it's really unfair on young travellers that these companies can charge you for 24 months of insurance and not refund you, when you don't know where you will be in 6 months. It's really taking advantage of people, who are often in low paying hospitality / seasonal jobs. I really hope companies are forced to change their policies and consumers are better protected. It's funny because this insurance is marketed as a great product for young backpackers but really this company doesn't care about what's best for their target market.

United Kingdom | 29 October 2019When there were an accident everybody in the company told different story. Very expensive to call them as they charge $$$ per minute. After 1,5 years asking for reply for our reclamation, we never got out money back. Again, one said they have paid already, one said it was on the process and another one said that we never posted original receipts! Unbelievable! And customer service is the worst I have never experienced! So please keep away from them. They only take your money!

Spain | 01 October 2019wow if you want to be stranded in a foreign hospital while this shady company refuse to pay and tell you to pay directly then they will give you the money back, then when you find 30,000 euro to pay with, they do everything they can to get out of paying you back, I have now taken them to the ombudsman after they eventually agreed to pay me back after a year and then backtracked . These Bast*@d$ have ruined my life they may be cheap but its for a very good reason. BEWARE .
