United Kingdom | 07 January 2025I have had dealings with many estate agents in my life and have never had the misfortune to deal with one as dreadful as Truepennys. AT first glance they seem like a nice friendly efficient set up, but in reality they really are the worse ever. I had my house on and off the market for a couple of years and I nearly used them in 2022, I live nearly two hundred miles away and so I entrusted them with keys to my London home. Their commission was 1% which was what I had been quoted elsewhere. On the day the photographer came I was assured the then Manager would be present with the photographer, but it seems he was just given the key, whilst there caused havoc and left the house without setting the alarm. I was in effect lied to. Hence I decided against using them on that occasion. Two years on and the said manager had left. I had been with another agent whom I was pleased with, but felt I needed to refresh and change agents, so I approached Truepennys and a pleasant young chap in the office, said their new manager was working from home this weekend, but he said she'll contact you later today, this was 10am on a Friday, no call came by 4pm, so i popped back in and he said that's odd, I'll message her again, whilst there I asked him their current commission rate, he said its still 1% , his Boss Ryan was also present this time. I awaited her call. It hadn't come by Monday so at noon I instructed another agent. She called about 2 hours later, I said sorry you're a bit late, she said at least let me come and see you and tell you about our marvellous team, I agreed and she was coming about 5.30 to 6pm, she arrived late! During our conversation I said your commission is 1% isn't it, she said no we never charge 1%, its 1.5%, I said well the guy in the office told me 1% in front of your boss Ryan, she said he shouldn't have told you that, so again I said well I'll stick with the other agent thank you. I was happy with the chosen agent but after 6 months decided to give the property a rest from the market with a view to going back on with the same agent after a break. Virtually a week after if was off market, Truepennys approached me and suggested they could do an off market viewing as they felt they had clients who might like my house. I had nothing to lose, so I thought why not. Three viewings were conducted back to back with me present as they didn't have a key, the first of these made an offer, which I turned down, then he raised his offer and I accepted. This was £10,000 under the asking price of £550,000, but I thought at least its finally sold. But at that stage, I was still not a signed up vendor with Truepennys, She again told me their commission was 1.5% but she would discount it to 1.25%, I felt they had got me over a barrel as they had a buyer, so I reluctantly agreed to 1.25%.but I requested no sold board as I didn't want anyone to know until it had exchanged contracts, especially the neighbours, as it had been sold before and fallen through and I didn't want to jinx it. Unbelievably three weeks in, Truepennys hand delivered a letter to some 28 of my neighbours with a pic of my house, claiming 'SOLD OVER ASKING PRICE ON FIRST VIEWING' incensed by this I asked her to write again to everyone and suggest this had been sent in error, she said they could do that, but of course it never happened. Also I said in view of that I want compensation in the form of the commission being reduced back to what I was initially quoted i.e. 1%, that was a decision for the boss Ryan to deal with but he ignored my letter, and I had to write again to ask him to reply then when he did, he felt they had done nothing wrong and I spent the next six weeks corresponding, but each time his response was to make me feel like I had done something wrong. He initially said the commission remains at 1.25%, I said be in no doubt, this sale will not progress further unless you meet my requirements, he then offered me £500, I reiterated my stance and was prepared to pull out. He then finally saw sense and reduced to 1%, but says he stands by his argument that they've done nothing wrong and they did sell over the asking price as the house was marketed with a previous agent a year or so earlier on a guide price £500 - £550,000. This is completely irrelevant as the marketing price on Truepennys contract is £550,000. FACT. The man is an idiot and has done himself no favours in behaving as he did towards me. There are one or two exceptionally nice staff at Truepennys, and those that do good I have the greatest respect for, but sadly it seems the majority do not listen to their clients instructions, the general consensus seems that the truth is rare and they do as they damn well please, the clients wishes are not considered. I'd never use them again under any circumstances but if you're thinking of selling, there are many great estate agents , but Truepennys is not one of them. You've been warned!

United Kingdom | 28 November 2024Either incompetent or fraudulent? Recently completed a 6 month lease through Truepenny's Dulwich. Noted a number of material issues on moving in (including potential fire hazard issues) none of which were addressed during the tenancy. Now they are trying to hold back as yet undisclosed amounts of my deposit which appear to be aimed at restoring the property to "as new" which is in absolute violation of the lease. Am disgusted and very angry.

United Kingdom | 11 October 2024I am not sure how they are for the landlords. We didn't have a choice in choosing them as our landlord just changed agencies. But since then all the issues we have had, they have dealt with very slowly. Our washer drier machine broke and it took 3 weeks for them to change it, and then they only changed it for only a washer. Then we had a blocked canal, with water draining into the wall and causing humidity in the wall. It took a week for them to send someone to repair it, and they only unblocked the canal, but didn't do anything (and will not do anything about the wall). They are a disaster.

United Kingdom | 19 September 2024Fantastic!!!! Iona, Sarah-Jane, Chloe⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recently worked with True Penny Letting Agents to lease my property, and I couldn't be more impressed with the service they provided. From start to finish, the entire process was handled with exceptional efficiency, professionalism, and courtesy. The team demonstrated a thorough understanding of the local market and ensured that my property was let out swiftly and to the right tenants. Their communication was clear and prompt, keeping me informed every step of the way, which made the whole experience stress-free, even when we ran into unexpected twists and turns. I particularly appreciated their attention to detail and commitment to making sure everything was done properly and professionally. True Penny truly went above and beyond in ensuring that both my needs and those of the tenants were met. If you're looking for a reliable, professional, and courteous letting agent, I highly recommend True Penny. They made the entire process seamless and successful.

United Kingdom | 12 August 2024I recently had the pleasure of working with Iona and Sarah to find my new home. From the very first interaction, both of them were incredibly attentive, listening carefully to my needs and preferences. They have always made sure to present me with options that truly matched what I was looking for, making the whole property searching process so easier and stress-free. Iona and Sarah were always available to answer my questions, no matter how small. Their knowledge of the local market made me feel I could trust them. They always provided me with helpful advise and interesting options. They took the time to explain every step, ensuring I felt comfortable and informed about the property that we were viewing or that were being suggested to me. What stood out the most was their genuine care and dedication—they really wanted to help me find the perfect property, not just make a sale. If you're looking for estate agents who are professional, friendly, and truly invested in finding the right property for you, Iona and Sarah are the perfect team. Highly recommend!

United Kingdom | 10 August 2024I'm very disappointed with this agency and the communication after I moved out. I've been waiting over two weeks for my deposit, and now I'm told I have to wait another seven days by the DPS. Also when I was due to move out, I didn't receive any warnings or emails about people viewing my room. They told me, "you don't need to be present for viewings," but I was uncomfortable with strangers going into my room when I wasn't there. Additionally, I don’t think they screen tenants well; I felt very uncomfortable around one of the tenants who also didn’t clean up properly and wouldn't co operate with the house rules. I wouldn't recommend this agency to anyone.

United Kingdom | 29 May 2024We’re lucky to have had Chris as our agent, as he excels in standing for landlords and exploiting tenants. I believe he always does a good job in this regard. Firstly, the installation of the hobs was delayed for three months after we moved in, and requests for repairs—including blocked garden door locks, room closets, toilet bowls, and kitchen sinks—were not addressed. Secondly, his harassment caused us significant mental distress and constant pressure, despite my emphasizing that I suffer from mental health issues. Thirdly, we were forced to pay the second half of our rent over a month in advance, only to be evicted the next day after making the payment. I suspect they illegally transferred our money for other purposes, as the return was badly delayed. They had already decided to evict us but still forced us to make the payment, which amounted to 15,000 pounds. Lastly, the agency deducted rent without discussing it with us and delayed the refund of the excess for a month after we vacated the property. They also attempted to deduct almost our entire deposit.

United Kingdom | 15 May 2024I viewed a flat for sale through Truepenny’s back in January. The first question I had for the agent showing me around was why the seemingly reasonably priced property was still on the market. I asked if the commercial units in the vicinity had any bearing on that fact it hadn’t sold and if there would be any issue in getting a mortgage on the property? The agent said it was nothing to do with that, just a slow market at the moment and then lied through their teeth, assuring me “there would be absolutely no issue in getting a mortgage”. Fast forward a few months, mortgage repeatedly rejected by the more lenient high street lenders. I email the ‘sales progressor’ to update him, letting him know another mortgage application has been rejected and the following morning I find the flat is back on the market! Not so much of quick check with me that I wanted to pull out of the purchase. The flat is now on the market again, with no warning to anyone that you can’t get a mortgage on it. And I’m £1000 worse off because of Truepenny’s blatant lies.
