Walked in this afternoon to treat myself to yet another unnecessary toy. Guy in the (empty) shop didn’t even acknowledge my prescience -not even a nod or a grunt. Spent some time looking at the vintage guitars and amps (from my era). Still might as well have been invisible. Decided not worth buying a vintage guitar from someone not the slightest bit interested in selling me one but thought I’d at least buy some strings for one of my strats. (Guy sitting behind counter reading) - “Have you got any strings lighter than 9’s? Say, 8’s or 8.5’s?”. (Doesn’t even look up) - “No”. A minute or two later “Usually have some but haven’t at the moment”. At that point, I totally ran out of interest and left. I only visit this part of the country occasionally but have bought instruments from this shop at least twice in the past but never again. If I’m going to give someone a load of money I expect them to at least show a morsel of interest - not just be pig-ignorant.

I have just moved to Thame and needed one of my guitars set up. Bought from a renowned Guitar shop in Stratford Upon Avon, the dealer there maintained he had set it up free of charge as a service along with the sale. However the action and nut height were nowhere near finger friendly. Phil at Vintage and Modern Guitars knew what he was doing and did a perfect job. He fitted a Nashville bridge, aluminium tailpiece and filed the nut slots to optimal level. I could not fault the service. Now I can say my guitar is where it should be. Can't wait to play out with it.
