I had a positive experience with Grey Matters (Marc) in procuring a mortgage with Halifax. There was an issue with the original property that fell through and the terms of the mortgage were re-negociated quickly. I didn't feel bombarded with information. A check list might have been good in preparation for contract exchange as I overlooked the requirement for buildings insurance for contract exchange. It wasn't a problem, as I was able to get a policy changed quickly with my insurance provider over the phone. It was stated in the legal bundle fine print, but wasn't highlighted so I overlooked it.
