United Kingdom | 16 February 2025Just a few basic things any prospective client should know: 1. She will tell you she is available 24/7 to answer your calls and emails; you will never ever manage to get her to answer the phone and every single email you send will come back with the debris of her out of office - without fail, the out of office was never ever switched off in the short time she was my accountant 2. Her knowledge around Tax and VAT is pretty much zero. She has no clue at all. I am a dentist and she claimed to have several dentist clients - it was all lies. She had no clue that dental services are not VAT rateable and claimed they were; when I called her out on this and requested some examples, she asked me to contact HMRC and provide her with a list of services I provide and the VAT rating :-) 3. She will make decisions for you as a client without seeking your approval. We discussed registering my company for VAT; she went ahead and registered my ltd company for the flat-rate scheme without asking me which scheme I should join and without having the foresight to realise that ALL of the services I provide as a dentist are non-rateable so to register my company for the flat-rate scheme is tantamount to a 20% charitable donation to HMRC every three months - what a numpty!! To make matters worse, after having screwed up the VAT registration and not informing me of the selected scheme, she then submitted the very next outstanding VAT return to HMRC without any review or approval be me and under the wrong scheme. I ended-up paying a VAT bill of just under 3000 pounds (for the quarter), despite the fact I have never collected a single penny of VAT from a client for the service I provide as a dentist. She messed up at every single stage of the VAT process, but she will never ever be honest enough to confess around her, frankly, sketchy knowledge of accounting and finance. 4. She values her own time more than providing a professional service for her clients. She was very late submitting my VAT returns and not contactable at all if you need to chase her to hold her accountable to any formal submission dates. She will go missing close to your deadlines, 100% without a doubt. 4. She will never admit culpability for her lack of knowledge and professionalism. In my case she had to as she was caught completely with her pants down around VAT registration and submission of VAT return. 5. I will be starting legal proceedings against her company; I have a full audit trail of her screw-up's which is all I need. 6. I have no idea who adjudicated over the award she claims to have received - wouldn't be surprised if that was a manufactured fact too !! I think it's really important prospective clients have a full view of what they may be getting into by signing up with the incompetent D E Accounting & Payroll Services - just don't do it, I implore you, it would be a huge mistake for you and your business.
