James Carley, a solicitor that avoids the truth, and does not believe in upholding UK law....AVOID !!!!

This was a very complex and emotional case that our solicitor took on. She was very experienced. I highly recommend Emily Sherwood not only for her expertise but for her fast response throughout all contact and her help with emotional support along the way. We are 100% happy with the service. Thank you very much to Emily, Hannah and your colleagues at Rothera Bray

Our family have used Antony Fyson to buy and sell several properties now. We have always found both himself and his assistant Vicki both friendly and professional. This would have been five stars but it took over six weeks to pay us the balance owed following our last sale.

Dumped straight into DocuSign with zero explanation. Major problems with ThirdFort. Expectation to do everything on line. Brusque communication. Sluggish reactions to a problem, minimal feedback as to progress. Trainee solicitor was more professional. 3 months later they demanded £3.53 (their mistake). Again no explanation or apology. We were long standing clients before merger. We will never use them again. Avoid.

I appointed Rothera Bray to represent me for my case. After reading and obtaining a few quotes from other firms, Rothera Bray was not the cheapest or dearest, but I found they were best suited for my case and the cost were reasonable. Lindsey who I dealt with mostly over the phone/email was the most lovely, friendly and informative lady, and I know this is her job but she didn't make me feel like just another client for how big their firm is. Then I spoke and met with Olivia who was my legal representation for the hearing. Olivia was very professional, friendly, straight talking and obviously good at what she does. Although my outcome has hindered my life slightly, I got the best case scenario all thanks to Olivia and her team. I would highly recommend Rothera Bray to anyone and thank them again for helping me

An update… Rotheras have yet shown their true colours by lying to the Ombudsman. My Google review about Rotheras was reported by them relentlessly for months on end, to prevent it from being posted. Rotheras want to present a false image of being professional when their work ethic and quality of legal probate knowledge can only be described as dismal! I am sure my review will be followed up with a slew of high rated reviews as part of damage control! Engaged Rothera in April 2022 to probate an estate. The probate only came through in August 2023. Provided them all the information they had requested promptly.. Months later, after a lack of communication or progress on the application, made international call after call and emailed them to be constantly told that the lawyer would be in the office after four weeks, he was on vacation, he had a funeral to attend. When I insisted on knowing the cause for the delay, Rotheras showed no inclination to resolve the issue that was holding up the probate. Hence, I decided to work with the bank, spending hours of my time to resolve the issue and essentially take care of what Rothera were being paid for. Months later, after further delays, Rotheras sent me the application to sign, which to my dismay had been created incorrectly. On the application, Rothera had shown us as being domiciled in the UK. The very purpose of going through a lawyer was to prove that we were not domiciled in the UK and therefore IHT did not apply to our application. What was Rothera’s reaction to this huge error? Indifference. I was also asked by Rothera to prove from a local lawyer that we were domiciled outside the UK and that I had the right locally to inherit the estate. I had to spend hours researching on my own what documents would be suitable. No help from Rotheras, yet, as soon as I provided the documents they came back to me saying they would engage an expert for a fee and see what documents were needed. They had not been bothered to check this crucial information before asking me to pay the local lawyer and obtain the documents. Needless to say I had to pay the local lawyer again for another set of documents. The pension company informed me that they did not hear from Rotheras for months, hence the funds have been converted into a Bear account and I will now have to spend endless hours trying to resolve this issue on my own. Rotheras found selling certain stocks to be complicated, so that too was handed over to me to take care of. Rothera also asked me to take care of transferring the property titles to my name as they said they were too busy. Rotheras have charged unjustified fees in the five figures for doing the clerical task of writing to banks to obtain date of death values, of submitting the application (major error spotted by me thankfully) and writing to the companies asking them to deposit funds into the Rothera account. When I expressed my dissatisfaction at the fees they were charging for an error-ridden, incompetent and incomplete process, three of the partners aggressively got involved, trying to justify the high fees they were charging me. Yet, none of the partners had been available to look at the delays, the error on the application or the fact that I was being pressured to handle and resolve the work that they did not want to do because it involved an extra step from the basic clerical tasks they preferred to do for a fee that was in the thousands! Why go with them when you can have any other competent lawyer to assist you? Save yourself the stress, extra work, and expense and go with a more capable and professional firm of lawyers.

Lauren Kilbride was the solicitor dealing with myself and my employer, very professional service from Lauren, who explained everything in great detail. Would definitely recommend.

Do not use the 08456 465 465 on their website. It is a premium number at £1 per minute. There is no indication of this on their website or when using the number. Such practice is absolutely appalling from a business that needs to be based on trust and customer service.

I would like to thank Rothera Bray Solicitors, in particular Grant Benskin. I found myself in a difficult position with a business tenant and had to resort to litigation. Never in 45 years of business needing to do so before and found myself needing much guidance. Grant was able to take control and negotiated a settlement and exit contract. It was a complex case from the start and took several months. I can honestly say without Grant it would have been extremely difficult. I thoroughly recommend Rothera Bray and Grant.

We asked for a quote for some work to be done and when we received this it was very expensive so decided not to proceed. We were then presented with a bill for £420 for providing the quote and when we challenged this, we were threatened with court action.

Avoid.Joke of solicitor. Don’t know what they are doing. Took my case to them, charged me money I’m advance, and a month later tell me that they can’t brake my case because the other part has relatives working there. Waste of time and delay my case.

A pleasure to deal with Samantha and Johanna at Rotheras, Stoney Street, Nottingham. Earlier delays in the purchase process due to outside factors were compensated for by excellent service to expedite the completion of my purchase today. Would highly recommend.

*** BEWARE! ATTROCIOUS CONVEYANCER SERVICES*** The sheer incompetence of this firm is staggering and beyond belief. I was never informed by my solicitor the house I was buying was subject to a grant of probate. She casually dropped it two months into the sale process and still gave me the impression I could complete sale before the stamp duty deadline, when she knew it was very highly unlikely. I was a FTB and thought it was the agent’s fault for not letting me know. And the solicitor let me run with that belief, when she knew fully well she had cocked up massively. I will not entrust them with my dog’s state of affairs and is warning potential homebuyers against this firm. Until this date, I am yet to receive an apology.

We engaged Rotheras Kayes Walk in early 2020 regarding a sensitive family matter, and wow are we glad we did. Our solicitor was Rebecca Lister, and from our first meeting she was amazing, she was clear that our matter was going to take time the costs ect but we had got a case. The professionalism and dedication were clear to see. At the various hearings we alway's felt reassured and part of a team, and in the times where thing's got very stressful she was alway's on hand with a calming manner. We were devastated though really excited for her when she had to go on maternity leave just before our final hearing, and really anxious that her leaving would inpact our case because she had got to know us and us her, again she was so reasureing. Jump forward, we then had the pleasure of Rebecca Emeleus taking over our case, again a truly remarkable lady, she contacted us and introduced herself and it was very clear that she had read through our case thoroughly and new all the details, again leaving us less anxious, she was alway's on the end of the phone or email if we needed her, she understood our anxieties and fears and we alway's felt looked after and supported. We would 100% recommend anybody who needs help and legal representation to go to these guys, from the day to day work, court hearings recommeding our barrister ect they are ammazing. We owe them so much and after 2 long stressful year's we are now at peace and have a very happy contented home.

If anyone in your chain is using these then be prepared for a long wait. Slow and unresponsive doesn’t cover it. Ignored numerous calls and emails from both our solicitors and even their own client (our buyer used them). Went on holiday for two weeks and just left the file without any cover. Ridiculous amount of hole-picking when transferring money during the recent issues at PPL, which despite banks and numerous other companies having no issue at all, messed about asking for PI coverage and making ‘test’ transactions (PPL is a CLC regulated firm, not SRA so doesn’t have to have its own PI, this was an issue only resolved by work from us and the buyer, I think we’d still be waiting if left up to Rotheras). Not even sure they know what they’re doing and it seems they charge a premium price.

I was very reluctant to write this review as I believe everyone deserves a second chance after making mistakes. But the sheer amount of frustration and unresponsiveness I received in dealing with Rotheras leads me to say that unless I had to I would never work with them again. Ever. To be clear, when they did respond it was very polite and professional. But considering they were supposedly doing a job I was paying for - I had to chase and chase and chase and chase. Emails were not replied to, phone calls not returned, weeks went by with the response 'I'll get to it" and eventually I had to complain to the head of the firm. Again, she was very helpful and polite. But - I understand that people have huge workloads - so you hire someone else to help them get through it if it is unreasonable for them to do it all. At one point, the gentleman I was working with just went on holiday for two weeks - didn't hand my job to anyone else - and as a result my buyer started threatening to pull out. To be clear, no-one was ever rude and the work done was fine. But I felt completelyunvalued as a client, and the only people I have had to chase harder than this were a third-world South American government department. I feel stressed just writing about this. Possibly the rest of their services are superb but buyer beware. I feel I have a personal responsibility to try and help someone else NOT go through what I did.
