United States | 17 February 2025My dad had already been diagnosed with dementia when he moved into assisted living at Brightview Fair Oaks and I always expected that he would eventually end up in their memory care unit. What I did not expect was Brightview’s management team making me feel very pressured into moving my dad to memory care before I thought it was appropriate. I felt like they were argumentative and abrasive in their meeting with me, and their reasons for wanting to move him were alarming and scary. I wish I had known at the time that as a family member you have the right to see the staff’s written reports about your loved one, you don’t have to take management’s word for it. In my case, I installed a video camera in my dad’s room which proved to me that their assessments of him were not accurate. They added unnecessary additional stress and worry to what is already an incredibly hard thing to go through, and they made me fearful because I could no longer trust them. I removed my dad from Brightview’s care as quickly as I could and he is now living in a new community.
