Repairing lamps or rewiring is a bit tough task for a senior citizen like me. I used to repair all the lamps but now due to age and vision problem it’s not possible for me. I was looking for a good lamp repairing service provider and I came to know about lampwise.co.uk. This Milton Keynes based lamp shop provides some excellent repairing service. The best part is you can get all the details online on their easy to use official website.

Having purchased lighting to the value of around £500 which on the day of receipt we requested to change for an alternative model / colour some £200 more than the original purchase, we were rather shocked at Lampwise attempting to charge a 25% "returns fee on special orders". A little insulted at this, and following consultation with Citizens Advice and Trading Standards, it was confirmed that this is not a legal practice for normal manufactured goods. Special order is a term not relating to a custom made order, and is simply the supplier providing through a source different to their usual supplier. By attempting to financially penalise a customer through an online sale during the cooling off period, is an attempt to restrict the customers consumer rights and not a legal practice. After numerous discussions, which at one stage resulted in a phone call which I can only describe as like faulty towers from a director using what I would consider as quite aggressive and threatening behaviour, I decided that I was not going to simply hand over £150 and was forced to proceed through court proceedings to which Lampwise then backed down and refunded this amount. My concern is that had this been a nominal amount I probably would have "not bothered" with the hassle as I am sure many customers have not in the past, however my pursual was spurred by not only the amount in question but the unacceptable response towards customers from this company. I would therefore urge anyone else being forced to pay this surcharge within the cooling off period for a distance selling transaction not to accept this charge, the only items exempt are: CDs, DVDs or software if you've broken the seal on the wrapping perishable and other items that deteriorate rapidly, such as food and flowers tailor-made or personalised goods underwear and earrings. You legally have the right to reject goods and are not required to give a reason 14 days from the receipt of the goods, with a further 14 days to return them. I would add that the lady who resolved this who was a PA to a senior body within the organisation was extremely helpful and polite, for which i am grateful, however the stress experience through dealing with other people within the company has created a need to follow up with this review. On a positive point, the lights are superb.

Unfortunately I am unable to respond to Lampwise’s dismissive comments, so have had to complete another review. Whomever has replied to my original post was obviously not present when we came in to leave the lamp for the re-wire. Firstly, we WERE misinformed and WERE told that the £15 paid WAS a deposit. At no point were we told that this was an inspection fee. I do not disagree that we should have been told this was an inspection charge, however this does not change the fact that we were misinformed. Regarding the inspection by a qualified electrician. I received a call on Monday morning, c 9.30 a.m. from Pam ( We dropped the lamp off shortly before you closed on the Sunday), who asked me various questions about my requirements for the re-wire. Pam explained she was doing this on behalf of the electrician who comes in Tuesdays and Thursdays and provided me with a quote and said the lamp would be available for collection on Thursday. PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS- if the electrician doesn’t come in to your shop until the Tuesday, yet on the Monday I am called and given a quote for the re-wire does this mean that an assessment was carried out by a qualified electrician and would you be able to submit proof that it was carried out by a qualified electrician? Have I been charged for a service that was not provided? In your response to my initial feedback, you said that the electrician only replaced items deemed necessary. According to the senior member of staff present on Saturday morning the electrician should have replaced the plug and offered to get the electrician to do so! No receipt was provided for the re-wire and we have no indication if your work is guaranteed, nor that the item has been PAC tested. I would be grateful for an explanation of your post sales policy too. I regret having to leave poor feedback ,but my whole experience with your company is upsetting, and I'm incensed by you absolving yourself of any blame in your feedback. It seems that from other feedback attributed to Lampwise that any fault is placed squarely at the feet of the customer, rather than any admission that at times, everyone gets something wrong.

I ordered a ceiling lamp from Lampwise @ £106. It arrived and looked OK. When I installed the lamp I noticed the glass cover did not sit in its ring properly and the edges were chipped slightly. I called Lampwise, to let them know I was not happy with it. That's when it all went down hill! Their customer service is not up to much. Beware, even though there was a fault with the light we still had to pay to return the light fitting and there was a 25% restocking charge. Bad customer service + poor communications + loss of money even though the item was faulty = Never again will I deal with Lampwise

I ordered some bulbs recently from Lampwise - it was the first time I had used them. Before I new the postman rang the bell to deliver a package - I hadn't a clue what it was. Never thought about the bulbs as I had only just ordered them. CVould not believe how quickly they came. If you ever need bulbs get onto Lampwise.
