United Kingdom | 24 November 2020I hired company to replace an electric shower, and all seemed to go well initially. The tradesperson installed the shower and overcame an issue with the installation that he identified. Unfortunately the shower malfunctioned about a month later, and since it was under warranty I called out the manufacturer's engineer to rectify. It appears that the shower was installed incorrectly and therefore the manufacturer charged me for the visit and repair. My subsequent emails to Skilled Handyman to request a refund have gone unanswered.

United Kingdom | 17 September 2020Awful tradespeople, awful customer service and they steal money from your bank account. Do not give them any card details as they will take money without any authorisation. We had someone come to repair a toilet, he stayed for 1/2 an hour charged us for an hour and didnt wait until the toilet had refilled to check he had done the job. When the toilet had refilled he had not done the job properly and had to come out. He came again later that day, stayed for 20 minites after ignoring my wife about where the water tank as, looked at it and said he wouldn't be able to deal with it now and would have to come back the next day. To my amazement the company took a further 90 from my account without me knowing for the revisit. It looks to me like this is a consistent and deliberate pattern of behaviour to steal money from their customers. Avoid this company at all costs

United Kingdom | 12 September 2020Avoid like the plague! Read other reviews and you will see that this a serial offender. Overcharges and will charge your card without consent. Also sends technicians out without any parts whatsoever, even when told what you want to replace. They have exclusive agreements with certain part shops so the technician will then drive to the shop (of course not the nearest but the one they have contract with) and will charge you for travel time! And of course it's no surprise to then discover that the part is double the price it should be in their "partner" store!

Update 17/09/2020 ( There director is saying I didn’t give them a chance to resolve. Are they going to do free job for one month for all customers if I provide evidence that I give them a chance? Does director has guy to take challenge? Prove it) I hired for laminate flooring. There wasn’t enough underlay for laminate flooring. Brilliant skilled guy Adrian used 3 mm form underlay in half of the room and go and get the another from B and Q on our request. As a PROFESSIONAL and SKILLED handyman he bought 1mm VINYL FLOORING UNDERLAY and used in half of room. What a common sense and knowledge about their job? Their director and office is a one staff company. Don’t bother to reply by email. On my phone calls they said they ll get back to me. So I have to wait until don’t know. SUPERB service!!! If you are not expert or have a knowledge about things don’t hire them as they mess with project. Wait a minute, if you are expert and have a knowledge then you don’t need to hire this SKILLED handyman who mess with the project. I suggest always make payment by credit card so you can raise a dispute through bank as skilled handyman won’t reply to you. Keep all communication by email as their phone calls doesn’t get recorded. I recorded their phone calls with other phone. As per your reply regarding assess.if you have guy please prove it from your outbox as it must be in your outbox as I haven’t received email only telephone conversation. I am more than happy to publish telephone recording. Which I am going to do it.

United Kingdom | 25 August 20208 months pregnant and so booked skilled handyman as I was unable to complete job. I had three jobs booked in. The guy turned up late, was rude and then didn’t have materials that he was meant to (materials he needed were specified on the sheet). Disappeared for hours to get them. Then said he didn’t have time to finish the jobs. I came to look at them and the jobs he had done were shocking e.g we had asked him to stick down peeling wallpaper and the result was glue everywhere. I complained and they then went on to tell me that they could come back and fix (at more expense to me) or they would take money out of deposits for other jobs (so forcing me to pay)! They also wanted to charge for time it took to get the materials and also for the materials. I ended up crying a lot !! Which was not good so late in pregnancy and what was meant to alleviate stress caused much more ! DO NOT USE!

United Kingdom | 07 August 2020I contracted this company to remove a shower tray and install another one in the same place, no plumbing required and fix a dripping tap. When I booked they wanted to charge the hourly rate (now I get why!) but i asked for the day rate just to be in the safe side. The guy arrived at my house late, not wearing any PPE in the middle of a Pandemic and in a horrible mood. I should have known then and sent him away but needed the job done. I asked him to remove his shoes as i just had the carpet deep cleaning. Told him about the jobs need doing. Long story short, he took 10 hrs to do the job and still left the dripping tap. I spoke to the company the next day and said I was not happy with the service and complained about his time and the fact that he left dirty marks all over the carpet because he couldn’t be bothered to take his shoes off. They said they would investigate. Then they went ahead and took the extra money from my account before I received an invoice, not caring if I had the extra funds or an overdraft. When I challenged this the woman became very defensive and told me the manager said the time was reasonable, they did send an invoice, even if after they took the money from the account, and that basically i was lying about the carpet. The company is so shoddy that she said i wouldnt be charged for his lunch break but then went ahead and charged for 10 hrs including his late arrival! DO NOT USE this company.

United Kingdom | 26 January 2020Did a couple of small jobs at a flat in Reading I own (RG30 area), both ok so I asked them (with my investment partner - surname Worth) to do a larger job. Big mistake. After being charging the credit card over £5,000 to install a shower, shower tray and about 20 tiles, we had to contact them week after week to get a breakdown of costs. Found they had overcharged about £300 for parts not used on the job. We also took them to small claims court and settled, but still haven't received the electrical certificate after chasing over and over again for it (for over 12 months). Steer clear of this firm! (Reply from the company below is factually incorrect - there are multiple emails to them throughout the process regarding frustration with the progress being made and promises of finish dates were broken. Over £4,000 for the works (after mediation) and we still don’t have the electrical certificate over 13 months after the work was completed and multiple emails to chase/ request it. This firm is not to be trusted - see other reviews if you need proof). To respond to the last update - the mediation with the court was a financial payment and for the company to provide the electrical certificate. The electrical certificate still hasn't been provided so the agreement hasn't yet been fulfilled. In terns of contact, I haven't directly emailed, but saw first hand the (slow) progress on the bathroom and have seen all of the correspondence. I am the owner of the property.

United Kingdom | 30 October 2019I wouldn’t be able to recommend Skilled Handyman. There are a number of reasons why. 1. I was advised the scale of my work (flat pack assembly) would only be “a one man job and take about three hours to complete, so the hourly rate would be your best option”. 2. On the website they claim “guaranteed arrival time”. Hmmm. 3. My Contractor was due to arrive at 8.30am. Only upon my chasing at 9.00am was I advised that there was “an issue getting in touch with the Contractor and we’re trying to get someone else out”. 4. I then had a call by 11am telling me “two Contractors would be coming in the afternoon and they will be able to complete the job much more quickly”, however no concrete time was confirmed as to when I could expect them. 5. The Contractors arrived and completed part of the work before telling me they would be leaving (having only completed three quarters of the work). 6. The office called me the next morning and wanted to charge me for 10 hours work. This was an originally advised one man, three hour job, increasing by seven hours, representing a huge difference in cost. Had I been given any indication this would be the case I would have booked the one man day rate which is considerably cheaper at £390. 7. The office did indeed charge me the day rate, but not less my deposit “due to an error”, however when I queried this I was then told again that the amount of time the Contractors were on site was in query and they wouldn’t rectify this error. A £78 loss to me. All in all this was a very disappointing and stressful experience.

United Kingdom | 23 August 2019Awful awful untrustworthy parasites. Similar experience to other reviewers (wish I’d read them before I contacted this cheating, lying company). They took a deposit and kept my card details (unbeknown to me!!), turned up late, disappeared for 2 hours to get the tools he needed (they knew the job - why didn’t they have the tools with them??) and did not finish the job in time because he still didn’t have all the tools he needed! So came back next day and promised it would only take a little while. I phoned up to pay the remaining amount for a day’s labour (pay for 6 hours, get them for 8, as stated on their website) A few days later I noticed a further £200+ had been taken from my account without my knowledge or permission!!! They insisted they had done an extra 3 hours work. Which was not the case, even if they did include the 2 hours the guy disappeared for! It’s not my fault or responsibility that he turned up to a job with no tools! Absolute scum. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

United Kingdom | 18 April 2019Awful experience! Would never use this service again - Be aware they can and do charge you whatever they want. Doesn’t matter how long the workers are on site, they will charge you double!! When I questioned why I’m being charged for over 2hrs that the man was not even at my property, the reply was “We have nothing further to add on the matter!” Once you have left a deposit, they keep your card details and will take what they want! There is no room for dispute! Plenty of other companies out there that I’ve never had this problem with, my advise would be to look around for someone else and avoid Skilled Handman like the plague!

They did a good job. Some parts were missing from the flat pack. When i got the parts they came back quickly and sorted it out. Will use again.
