UPDATE: Note the review below represents how I feel about some of the coins Advantage sold me. However, I'm updating this review to reflect how impressed I am to their response to the review. Advantage contacted me within three days of the review. The put me on the phone with one of their Sr. leaders. He listened to my concerns, expressed his regrets about how the coin education and offerings were presented. Primarily that I shouldn't have been left with the impression that the value of these RCM coins are tied to the spot price of the underlying metal. He offered me several options to alleviate my concerns and "make things right". So I'm updating this review to reflect to outstanding customer service represented by Advantage's response to my review. Also note that they did not ask me to modify my review in any way. When gold futures (spot price) hit a 3-year high I called them to price the buyout of the coins they recommended in 2019 (3.5 year investment). While the spot price of gold was up 70%, the value of the "collectable" coins they sold me were up just over 30%. So yes, I have made a profit. However, these Royal Canadian Mint coins are not keeping pace. I re-examined my purchase price and find that Advantage Gold charged a 69% premium (over spot price at time of purchase). At the time it was explained as the intrinsic value of coins that would be made for only one year. That because they are a limited run, made only one year their value increases over time, due to scarcity. When I recently asked about the disparity of growth between these RCM coins and gold price, they said there is no accounting for lack of market interest. After reading a Washing Post article (7/25/23) titled "How right-wing news powers the ‘gold IRA’ industry", I find out these coins are commemoratives not collectibles. A quote from the article woke me up: “They are priced like collectibles, but collectible coins aren’t typically sold in bulk,” and “If a customer spent the same amount of money on products that are more standard, like [Canadian] Silver Maple Leafs, they would end up with a lot more ounces per dollar.” They made a point of their non-commission model. But who needs commission when you are selling at a 60%+ markup? They did mix some actual currency in, gold American Eagles. The markup on these coins - 3.3%. The growth of those coins over the same 3-1/2 years, 58%. Bottom line is if you are going to invest with Advantage Gold, stick with actual currency (gold/silver Eagles and Maple Leafs) to avoid the investment "haircut" from the ridiculous mark-ups on commemorative coins.
