My experience with Urban Writers was very good. My writer was responsive to my input chapter by chapter. She willingly revised copy to fit my voice very well.

Great website and the service is excellent, their support team is fast and helpful.

I have really enjoyed working with the writers I have engaged on this site. I’d only suggest that you give more options of formatting the final draft.

My writer and editor were both great, so this rating should not reflect the quality of work you can get from this service. However, the platform is awful and totally not user friendly. There are two places for direct messages, there is zero explanation (without asking or searching around) of what all the options during the process mean. There is no explanation of the process so you are just confronted with time clocks that make no sense and pressure you while I didn’t even know what to do during those times and wasted opportunities. I thought I could work with my writer directly and collaborate in real time, not the case. Dibbly is a horrible collaboration tool. Only allowing comments and no personal access to make changes to my own book was beyond frustrating. I tried downloading, editing and uploading, but could rarely get it to work and had to ask the admin to upload twice, then just gave up. By the time it got in there my writer had moved on and clock had run out. Notifications only by email is hard, especially when you also send out marketing emails constantly, it is impossible to keep up and things got missed all the time. I got an email every single time my editor changed anything or made a comment literally hundreds over the course of that week! Incorporate text notifications for the writer to communicate with the author and make an app that allows direct communication with your writer outside the online application. It was so annoying that I couldn’t just talk to her and ask her questions and give her a better idea of direction and tone. Why can’t we at least talk on the phone? It would make so many things easier during the writing process. So much more, but no I wouldn’t recommend to a friend, especially if this is their first book like it was for me. I would rather take my outline and write the book myself next time since it would be less stressful than trying to read and edit 135 pages in five days. I basically have to go back and make all the changes I wanted during the process but ran out of time on the timer and just had to accept the book as it was. It wasn’t a waste of time, or even money, but it is not easy to use, it is hard to communicate and the timelines they set are totally unrealistic unless it is the ONLY thing you have in life to focus on, then maybe it would be perfect. I work full time, have young children and a full life. This is a side project for me and it was definitely the wrong tool for my circumstances.

I have user Urban Writers once. The fact that I plan on using them for my next book should tell you everything you need to know.

Had great professionals working on my book throughout. It was my first time using urbanwriters, so when I got lost in the process, they were always quick to respond with great advice and guidance. Will definitely make use of their services again.

I am very happy that my ghostwriter followed my instructions and used my outline. She also used a friendly conversational tone rather than a stuffy instructional tone. We worked together to make the best manuscript possible. I will use your service in the future.

Lots of services offered. Ghost writers are hit or miss. Mine was overly enthusiastic and repeated info too often, requiring lots of edits. Final cover needed to be reformatted half a dozen times and took months to complete.

I really enjoy working with The Urban Writers. I love that there is a platform with customer support that can jump in to help if needed. And anytime I need help from Admin, they are fantastic to work with. The talent on the site is also incredible. I have had a great experience!

From a writer/editor perspective, TUW was very limited in format/style, everything, regardless of genre, was done in APA and a not-so-distinct writing tone. The customers are often new writers looking for help to self publish, or not writers at all, trying to outsource writing/publishing to the company. Orders were in all sorts of genres, and not assigned to those with legitimate backgrounds. In fact, the customer would choose freelancers themselves based on very short profile details. As a worker, the company was a hiring company and listed themselves as such on another site. That's where I saw the posting. Unfortunately, very shortly after I was hired, they began to move into a freelancer platform model, which meant way too many writers and editors for the number of orders available. They are still constantly 'hiring', yet on the back end there are under a dozen orders generally available for freelancers to bid on. In the end, it was more of a forum community all trying to help each other follow the guidelines and encourage each other to keep re-editing their profiles and pitches to attract work. Not profitable for a freelancer or someone trying to build a literary career.

i had the outline written and all was perfect. now i need to dowloa. the outline and upload it to start the book project and the outline dissapeared and i dont know how to getthe book written, supposed to be simple but this step is complicated. I dunno.

There were a few things about the process that was extremely frustrating: 1. The platform is difficult to navigate, and is severely limited. 2. UrbanWriters doesn't have their own writers, it is merely a freelancer platform. 3. The response to postings is minimal. 4. The drafts of ghostwritten book are through the proprietary system only, so you are limited on review. 5. Our writer represented that they understood the genre, but it became clear very quickly that they didn't. 6. Once the process gets to editing, again you must choose a freelancer. No significant problem, we chose one. 7. The issue with the editing process is that the editor sends the edits to the ghostwriter, not to you (the customer that is paying for everything). 8. Once you receive the edited version, you are only allowed by UrbanWriters to see the clean version, so you are unable to determine the true caliber of editing performed. 9. Upon reading the clean version it became clear that the editor was either from a different country (word misspellings) or just not qualified to do the job. 10. The book must now go through additional and significant writing and must be re-edited, all with additional charges to us by a professional writer and editor.

Site is difficult to navigate, answers to my questions not clear. Difficult to get help. I washed out and never got started.

I like the content that she put together. However, she could not seem to stay in line with what I asked for and would drift back to her original style of writing. She took some of my advise and direction, but not consistent throughout the book. She had some difficulty with the tone and was difficult to correct. Overall, I was happy with her work though. I could fix what I needed to fix on my own. She was able to do a decent job of coming up with stories and Bible references references. She took criticism well and put out great effort.

Quality writers that produce quality work!

I thoroughly enjoyed working with a hand picked team of 'Urbanites' on TUW. The skill, talent, expertise and cooperation of the team I had was outstanding. The admin team were always on hand to assist with clarifications, misunderstandings and learning curves (for me!) and I felt like they all valued me as a customer.

Professional process. Experienced writers with high quality standards. I found the TUW web platform less-user friendly to work with. I believe, some effort should be put into improving the platform, and the messaging process between customers and TUW. As well as the process of selecting writers/designers.

The Urban Writers is a “one stop shop” that has a variety of services. Each freelancer I have worked with has been very talented. They are knowledgeable about the process and amazing to work with. The Urban Writers online platform is very intuitive and useful. When I started on the platform I was a little overwhelmed at first so I watched the videos they offer and that really helped. The platform allows you to invite a talented freelancer to work on your project. Alternatively you may get requests from a freelancer to work on your project which you can accept or decline. The freelancers have a bio, sample of their work, ratings, etc. so you can make the best decisions.
