Upon calling Intercounty for a valuation in July this year, Jenny Mallorie was on our doorstep within half an hour! The property particulars were prepared speedily and the viewings began. In a short while the offers started to come in and in the end we achieved over our asking price. All the staff that we have dealt with - namely, Jenny, Andrew, Lisa & Liz have been absolutely brilliant and we would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to buy or sell a property!

United Kingdom | 13 November 2017Intercounty were engaged to provide an introductory service (only) for finding a tenant for my property. They did not provide or confirm any terms and conditions, nor any Fee Agreement in advance. They provided an acceptable service in marketing the property, and found tenants who were prepared to rent the property for 2 1/2 years. However, Intercounty then demanded a fee that was the equivalent of 2 1/2 times what would have been paid for a six month rental period where the work required for the service would have been the same which ever rental period was to be agreed. Three other Letting agents agreed with me that this was unfair and greedy, and would only have charged the same fee for a 6 month let as for a 2 1/2 year let. There followed attempts at negotiation, but Intercounty was unwilling to compromise, proposing instead that I go for a 6 month letting agreement and then later renew it for the fuller rental period originally agreed. This caused the tenants to back out of the process. I had by then received a notice from a vetting service employed by Intercounty which gave me the contact details of the prospective tenants, whom I then contacted, offering to provide the tenancy on the originally agreed 2 1/2 year basis at the originally agreed monthly rental, and also offering to remove the rental review after a year, that was an original condition. The prospective tenants accepted to proceed on this basis under a proposed direct agreement with me. The prospecive tenants were then contacted by Intercounty who sabotaged the new direct arrangement, causing the prospective tenants to pull out and not want anything further to do with me or Intercounty. I would probably have done the same in their position. Intercounty were professionally negligent in not agreeing or disclosing their agency terms and conditions in advance. Intercounty were uncompromising and unreasonable in sticking to their greedy and unfair terms and charges. Their handling of the whole experience twice caused the prospective tenants to withdraw, which cost them to lose the tenants and myself but all of us to lose financially as a consequence.
