Have trouble with these files. First time froze up my player. Next few times I get a loud static noise when going to the 2nd song. Never had a problem from HDTracts. Sound great though.

Much flexibility in choice of download format, and fast with the app. Process of purchase and downloading was painless. Thanks for the discount! The only issue is when you have different playback sources/headphones, the chosen format sounds quite different...sometimes a higher DSD 256 sounds "worse" than say 96/24 flac depending on the decoder...I guess that's why your multiformat subs (not yet taken) is more helpful for regular buyers!

This is a review of the new 24bit DXD release of Alpha Classics' Beethoven Symphonies & Ouvertures Vol. 2 by Anima Eterna Brugge, under Jos van Immerseel. Anima Eterna's 2007 Beethoven Symphonies and Overture cycle won critical acclaim on its first release as a CD set (for example, by Andrew Farach-Coltonin in Gramophone). Having enjoyed these recordings in that 16 bit 44.1 kHz stereo format many times since, they had become my firm favourites among the period instrument interpretations. Not only because of the beautiful textures and tonalities produced by these great musicians, but because of the incredibly cohesive (incisively tight) playing, and the technical excellence of the recording. Not that the CD mixes ever produced much of the soundstage that my system (and listening room) is capable of. On the CDs, most of the orchestra appears to be fairly firmly locked midway between the stereo speakers. It had never occurred to me that there might be higher resolution originals safely locked away, waiting for a deft hand to eventually do the remastering work to release so much previously-hidden information. The newly-mixed DXD (24 bit 352.8 kHz) material on the three recently released volumes is a revelation. Even on the stereo version of Vol 2, the soundstage is massive - deep and wide. It is possible to locate on that stage individual instruments of the twenty-four used in the symphony ('Eroica', No. 3) and wonderful to hear each with such clarity, while simultaneously hearing just the right amount of the 'voice' of the performing space itself. Listening to this mix at this resolution on a great sytem in the right room is a truly celestial experience! Congratulations, well done Anima Eterna Brugge, Jos van Immerseel and Bert van der Wolf! The browsing, preview, payment and download processes for the purchase from NativeDSD Music were trouble-free.
