United Kingdom | 18 January 2024Originally I wrote a 1* review when I first got my connection installed, 4 months on and it is only fair I rewrite this review with a fair representation. Overall GN are a good ISP, but there are some major points of improvement needed from a technical perspective of the GN networks. GN should note there is some misdirection and a focus towards looking at the customer/router side of issues, when clearly issues persist from a routing and network perspective on the ISP and global routing nodes GN break out to. Billing: I also have received a demand for two months service having not being billed for the forst three months of my service and then having to set up a new direct debit. Whilst I am warming to you as an ISP...get it together guys! Speed: OK, you are paying for a 900Mb+ connection. Are you going to realistically get 900Mb+. No is the simple answer. But in context, you are paying 30 quid a month and the averages of 750mb+ down and 575 up are more than adequate for anything needed outside of an enterprise setting. If you practically need more bandwidth than that at home, I would suggest paying for an enterprise connection with strict SLA's that ensure it. The speed is variable and does seem to be traffic managed at certain times, but is more than fast enough for even the heaviest of home users. Latency: (If you are a gamer that requires low latency, this ISP is not for you) At the start of the commissioning of the connection, latency was horrible. Using RTC applications was often impossible with 2250Ms latency being recorded as an average recently across the system and a peak of 5500ms(Discord) in fairness to GN a lot of work has been done around this and the latency is improving an average at times of 25ms, but I would say it remains an intermittent issue that although improving occasionally does seem to be a consistent issue. Reading other reviews I am not alone with this being the main issue most customers are experiencing. Customer service: Superb. You get a real person, on the phone when you need it. When you have an issue, you get called back and tickets are followed up. GN is by far the most responsive ISP I have ever had. The technical capabilities of the support team are fairly good and I feel they listen to me as a customer with a high level of technical knowledge. Now this being said the support website and ticketing system is slow, unresponsive and clunky and is not a smooth experience. It is much easier to use the main support email address to submit and update support tickets. Being a smaller ISP I think enables GN to be more responsive to customers. Equipment: Frankly. Rubbish. But it works with a little effort. The Fritzbox 5530 routers are quite outdated now and the interfaces are clunky with poor firewalls and no USB/media capabilities which is a huge inconvenience. That being said they are recognised as one of the best routers out there for FTTP and in fairness the wifi is fairly consistent. However, I feel that a more up-to-date router would improve the experience and performance of the connection. You can ask GN for the connection credentials if you want to purchase your own equipment, but I would recommend sticking with the GN kit as this allows better remote support if you need it, it is indicated that GN cannot or will not support third-party equipment. If you don’t want to compromise on GN support you could buy an updated Fritzbox, however, these are extremely expensive with the FRITZ!Box 4060FRITZ!Box 4060 at £300+ Wifi: The Fritzbox for 2.4G devices is frankly useless. Constant disconnects, and some devices won't connect at all. 5Ghz is considerably better and provides decent coverage and throughput. However, it seems that the Fritzbox is the sore point for a lot of users and really lets down what could be an excellent ISP otherwise Firewalls/CGNAT The Carrier Grade NAT and port translation with GN is a nightmare if you require significant firewall rule sets and complex port translation, the home connection certainly is not for you, in that event I would recommend a business-grade connection with a static IP. NB also the IP scheme is a layer 3 addressing scheme with no external IPv6 routing available (at time of writing) Another obscure quirk is some geofenced apps and websites detect my country location as Canada and therefore will not allow me to log in or make purchases, unless I connect a VPN beforehand, a minor irritant easily solved. I would say to anyone just signing up for a connection to give them a fair chance.

United Kingdom | 18 January 2024Mitchell, was friendly, pleasant and did a great job of selling the service, Gignet can offer. He took the time to explain everything to me. He was able to answer all my questions and concerns.

United Kingdom | 05 January 2024City Fibre installed the equipment. The engineers did not wear show covers/take of their boots. Cable trimmings were left on the floor outside the house. Plasterboard dust was left inside on the floor. The ether net cable from fibre box to WiFi router was left dangling, only a couple of cable ties needed to tidy it up. Arrived on time and install works. Gigabit said the router would have 4 Ethernet ports. It only has two, I have yet to speak to them about this. The connection tests at up to 450 Mb over WiFi and cover most of the 3 bedroom house dropping to 250 Mb at the furthest point. Purchased 900 Mb package, not tested the speed on a wired connection yet as the WiFi speed is above what I expected. Very happy with the speed.

United Kingdom | 04 January 2024The team were polite and with regular updates upto the appointment was very reassuring to have joined the new network. The team were receptive of our suggestions and worked as a team to make the installation with ease for both parties, with minimal disruption.

United Kingdom | 27 December 2023My husband bought the service from someone who knocked on our door, they were able to offer a big saving compared to our Virgin connection. Having it put in does require a trench to be dug in the front garden and a hole to be drilled in the house but it was much less painful than I expected and only took a couple of hours. Once they had finished they put everything back to how it was. The service seems to be very good, faster than what we had before and saved a small fortune every month!

United Kingdom | 27 December 2023Arrived early for 8 am . Installation took 30 minutes or so. Excellent and on December 22nd Ps the internet was running before they left. Very slick

United Kingdom | 21 December 2023A CityFibre team did the install and it was excellent; friendly, helpful and considerate. They were on time too, which makes a pleasant change in my experience with other companies engineers! The new speeds are very fast but are not (yet?) stable (The Fibre Plus connection speeds are currently up and down like a yo-yo?)

United Kingdom | 19 December 2023I have this Network for year now. And from 2 months I have problem with ping. Is jumping even till 800ms. I keep calling from a month. Ticket was runned. They see I have an issue. Been told will be switched for ipv6 and that should resolve problem but whenever I'm rigging they moving date forward so from 2 month I'm not able to play proply. Before someone take a new internet do research first it may avoid unnecessary stress:)

United Kingdom | 19 December 2023Everything was ok regarding the install, but the internet would not come through. It took a day to find out that the engineer had put the ethernet cable into the wrong portal. Once I found this out and put it into the right poratal, everything worked fine and the internet is super fast. Very pleased with it.

United Kingdom | 15 December 2023Came and installed on the date booked. Quick and clean install - shame the fibre router ONLY JUST turned up an hour before install even though booked a month earlier. Less than 12 hours later running at 800 mbytes up and download; well worth the price. Thanks

United Kingdom | 13 December 2023Couldn't have router where I wanted it positioning and not receiving close to the speeds I was expecting.

United Kingdom | 09 December 2023No problems at all with the installation! The big issue I am having is connecting to the Fritz box consistently! Some devices connect fine but others are so sporadic it’s infuriating!

United Kingdom | 09 December 2023Gigabit who use city fibre for installation managed to get us connected. It was a good service from the start withn gigabit. Excellent communication. We were with Talk talk who I cancelled do to no network for a month and no phone line for two months . Must have spent about five hours on the phone over two months trying to sort it We were with Talk talk for ten years. Very poor customer service from talk talk. Having said that I would recommend Gigabit.
