In 2 months I made 3 separate purchases of significant prices. The easiest part of the transaction was my paying for each item. Shipping is horrible and no shipping information is accurate. All my purchases stated signature required upon delivery.. what a joke!!!! All my purchases were just left on my front porch, not even a knock on my door. I was out of town and fortunately have cameras. "vetted sellers", is nonexistent with 1st Dibs. Every purchase did not come as stated online, missing and different from what I purchased. 1st Dibs is customer service is useless, you end up doing all follow thru. I am returning my recent purchase as it is not the correct length, no chain extender, no certificate of authentication for the emerald and was 14 days late from the date it was to ship and be delivered.

Order 134473302. I promise this is a honest, helpful and constructive review of 1stDibs. There is not enough room to describe the complete experience so I'll give you most of the highs and lows. To begin, I was lulled into a false sense of security as I trusted a seller on 1stDibs because the seller was a "5 star, platinum" vetted seller and the art was being sold through 1stDibs, not Craigslist (no offense, Craigslist). The artwork I bought was either inadvertently (best case) or deliberately (worse case) misrepresented as a "serigraph" by a well known artist - Alexander Calder. The piece was worth in reality between $250 and $500 USD (I found the same poster for sale on other sites) specifically because it was not a serigraph BY Calder, but a serigraph poster OF a Calder by a 3rd party. The seller was asking about $3900 for what was a framed poster (made by serigraphy) behind glass (the frame covered up the evidence this was a 3rd party, mass produced serigraph btw). This asking price was high enough to also help sidestep my sense of caution because who would ask $3900 USD for art which was anything other than what it is advertised to be? I bid $2,000 for it and my bid was rejected and the algorithm suggested I try again at $100 less than the asking price. I thought about it and I bid $2,000 again and it was... accepted. I couldn't believe my luck as I never thought my bid would be accepted but rather my second offer was the start of a negotiation. The next day, I started thinking there is NO WAY they would have accepted half for a Calder serigraph. Something is wrong. Why would they? I'm not this lucky! This thought set in motion hours of due diligence (I know, I should have done this up front but this is 1stDibs, they do this for you which is why they offer a money back guarantee) and I learned the seller had to have misrepresented the merchandise. Why? Calder never made serigraphs!! After dozens of emails with 1stDibs, a conversation with the overseas seller continuing to assure me this was a legit "beautiful" piece, conversations with the shipper, hours of my time wasted, eventually the poster is on it's way back to the overseas seller. To complicate matters, the poster shipped in an inadequately protected box and the glass in front of the poster was shattered in shipping! I believe the poster was damaged by the broken glass so one way or the other, this entire situation went FUBAR. I had more than a few choice words as I cleaned up shards of glass in my garage trying not to get cut to ribbons as I repacked the poster for return shipping. Before I could get my money back, 1stDibs needed to make a "ruling" on my claim vs. the sellers counter claim. After many emails, 1stDibs finally ruled in my favor and agreed the seller misrepresented the art, I got all my money back (but not immediately after the ruling, 1stDibs wanted the poster returned to the seller before I'd get a refund - as you may guess I didn't agree I should have to wait) short of my costs for repackaging the poster and cost of my time dealing with this mess. Eventually (several emails), 1stDibs refunded my money before the poster was delivered back to seller. So the high point of dealing with 1stDibs is I did get a refund, but the low point of 1stDibs is you need to be careful, very careful and not take what the seller writes as truth. To be fair, it is possible my experience is an outlier and 1stDibs will take action against this seller and warn other other sellers to be 100% transparent and completely accurate. I'll never know. Based on reviews, you have at least a 10% chance that what you buy at 1stDibs will be an unpleasant experience. I wish I'd read the reviews before I bought, especially this one! It took a lot of work to get my money back, more than I thought reasonable. The cadence of communication with 1stDibs, from my perspective, was glacial which I find frustrating. Lesson: Do your homework. Trust but verify. Question shipping techniques if what you are buying could be damaged in transit. Assume nothing. It is fair to write 1stDibs stood behind me...but know you may have a fight on your hands if they need to step in. 2 Star (not 1 star) only because I eventually got my money back. I don't know what they could tell me to regain my trust.

BEWARE OF 1st DIBS FRAUDULENT PROMISE. I viewed two urns for sale on 1st Dibs. The seller Canonbury Antiques offered a discount with a time limit. 1st Dibs confirmed my purchase within the time limit. The next day Canonbury Antiques canceled my order stating the urns had been sold ( for full price.) I contacted 1st Dibs and Canonbury Antiques and they have done nothing to correct the injustice done to me. I sincerely hope Canonbury Antiques and 1st Dibs are satisfied that their greed has cost them a customer. Richard Order #138299692

This was my first purchase using the 1st Dibs web site. They implemented processes that had me feeling my purchase would be finalized in a safe environment. Of course, they had the seller's ratings but they also gave very extensive information on the candlesticks; including where the item's price fell with what 1st Dibs thought the item was worth! Some sellers' prices were higher and some sellers' prices were lower. That data helped drive my decision. For me, "safe" is the operative descriptor for describing my 1st Dibs experience. I will definitely be back!

I tried to submit an offer 3 times today and it took me to a blank screen. I finally was able to submit over 2 hours later. I haven't had this problem before but it was a little frustrating.

I ordered 2 items on 1st dibs with a value of £36,000 One said was emeralds , it was complete fraud and the other one was meant to be rubies but it was super low quality. Despite requesting to return this in December. I still don’t have a way to return my item! Customer support has been a disaster! They all tell you they will come back and escalate but they do absolutely nothing. This company is not professional at all, the sellers are fraud. Nothing is checked. The seller which 1st dibs said was “professional and vetted” is cheating customs in Italy and bancok. Never trust this company. I am in a deep loss of $ 40000 and no one cares at 1st dibs I had to incur valuation costs and return fees that no one has refunded me for. I am still awaiting instructions for my return after 2 full months and over 100 calls to the support team !! This company is a total disaster , I cannot express how bad it is. (My order number is 129601732)

Bought a $500 serigraph and the colors were nothing like the pictures on 1stDibs. After nearly a month of going through their unnecessarily tedious "process" for easy returns, we arrive back at a $200 return shipping fee plus restocking and whatever. For an 8 ounce sheet of paper. Do not buy from them. Their promises are fraudulent.
