I recently purchased from AS and, due to the nature of my project, there was a bit of confusion on my part. John and Sue were both very helpful and accommodating. Guy with the fork lift was super helpful as well. 10/10 would work with American Surplus again!

Josh was a nice guy but nothing worked out the way I wanted. I clear as day said I need 12’ cantilever racks and he said he was going to quote me at 16’ because they were better quality and cut them down if I needed them to be. I figured that when I said I needed 12’ that it was clear that was what I wanted but instead, I received the 16’ and he told me I should have clarified. Next was shipping. No one said I would supply my own shipping while getting a quote though I know it said in small print on the quote that I would. If that’s the case, why not remove “shipping: $0.00” from the quote? It wasn’t until after we paid in full that they asked how I wanted it shipped. That should be more clear if I’m ordering equipment for thousands of dollars. The $1800 in shipping put me way over budget. After complaining they took 10% off and got shipping for $1400 which still had me over budget. It was an expensive mistake to order from here. I should have never ordered there in the first place and now I know to never order again. Edit: they say I didn’t have to go through with the order which is funny because I said in an email to them “We’re going to need to cancel the order and get refunded” to which josh tried to get shipping lowered which was still outside our budget. After that i asked if there was a restocking fee... NO ANSWER. We were on a time crunch and they wouldnt be straight with the information. So I went out of MY way to change our budget with all of my supervisors. Why wouldn’t they help me cancel the order when I asked? It was clear as crystal that it wasn’t in my best interests as the customer to have racks shipped from Rhode Island and I wanted to cancel. All respect to josh who obviously works very hard but saving me $600 on shipping is nothing compared the thousands I would have saved if I had ordered in my own state. With the 16’ trees, feel free to check my initial quote request, I needed 12’ trees. In an email JOSH changed the order to 16’ and said he could cut them then didn’t because he said on the phone, nothing more was talked about it after that initial email. I never at any point asked for 16’ trees and I was led to believe they would be cut to 12’ and no cutting fee was ever mentioned. You didn’t communicate well. Edit 2: you didn’t meet my budget, money was taken from other parts of the project because you didn’t meet my budget. Obviously I agreed to it, partly because you wouldn't refund me and partly because I had a deadline, which is why this review is titled “expensive mistake.” I should have known having never bought from you before but you should’ve been more clear considering not all customers know how your business is different from others in this way.

We had some wire decking that was damaged in transit and they replaced the entire order ASAP. This was very expedient customer service.

Great experience from start to finish and I would highly recommend them to anyone with any size project, Bill Lizzot was a great help and very was there on site to make sure that everyone had what they needed and to make sure we were happy with the product they sold us. Thanks Bill.
