Our solicitor found out that the sellers didn't own the property legally and therefore the sellers' solicitor couldn't answer any of our questions or concern regarding the property. It turns out that there is still a charge from the previous (real) owner on the property and the house shouldn't be on the market after all. We thought the estate agents didn't know so we informed them the reason why we were withdrawing our offer. We lost thousands of pounds paying for reports, surveys, and solicitor's fees. Immediately after withdrawing and warning them about all those issues, the house was put back on the market, and a neighbour has informed us that people are being shown around. Douglas & Gordon, now in full knowledge, are leading other people down the same path - to waste money on a property that is not available for purchase, through extremely shady sellers.
