United States | 08 September 2022Ive been a member for a while and deposited a check and they told me after depositing the check there would be a 7 business day hold. I would of never agreed to that. The customer service sucks. Due to there rules they may of put a disabled veteran homeless run from here.

United States | 28 July 2022I gave Genisys Federal Credit Union a one rating because I've been with them since 1997, but you wouldn't know it from the way they treat long term members like myself. After getting an auto loan from them, I fell ill and had to retire from my job. So I no longer had the income I had before I got the loan. Making it hard for me to keep up with the payments. So I fell behind. I feel like there should have been more empathy from the Credit Union to help me deal with my new situation. I was referred to Greenpath by them, a debt consolidation company. But the Credit Union itself had no empathy for my illness and it's impact on my financial situation. It's as if I joined them yesterday, with no relationship to get service from someone who made me feel like I was a valued customer. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, under any circumstances. I can do bad by myself!

United States | 03 June 2022If you like doing business with a bank that will have your back on a credit card dispute, this is NOT the bank you want to do business with. I have waited over 3 weeks and Kaitlyn Hernandez has not even filed my dispute after several emails she continues you ask more questions that all should have been asked the first day I made my claim with her and Genisys Credit Union. Any other credit card company I have used over the years, Pay Pal, Discover, Visa all return the funds to my account that same day so I have now had to file suit against Genisys CU and Master card.

United States | 04 April 2022The issue was resolved promptly by Genisys Management and seemed to be the result of a third party oversight. However, time was wasted and some damage remains. There should be better communications between third party vendors and contractors. However, as the old adage goes: No harm no foul.

United States | 16 February 2022I have been a member for over 10 years and over the past year or 2 they have gone downhill. They used to be good with customer service and had no problems with any banking. Recently we had a home appraisal done to refinance our house. They took the money out of my sons childrens account (he is under 18) to pay for the appraisal that my husband signed for to have taken out of his account. My husband is not even on our sons account! When I called all I got was “I don’t know how that happened”. Then my husband and I got our income tax refund sent to the credit union and they sent it back because even though we both bank there we have separate accounts. Now for 8 years we have filed married filing jointly and had it deposited to one of our accounts and never had a problem now this year they say that IRS rules are you have to have a joint account to have it deposited with both names on refund. Now this sounded suspicious as stimulus payments and child tax payments went in with no problem so I contacted IRS and this is NOT THEIR rule it’s the credit unions rule. Per the IRS when filing married jointly you may have the refund deposited to yours, your spouses, OR a joint account. I wouldn’t recommend genysis cu to anyone. I used to recommend them all the time. NEVER will I recommend them to anyone again.

United States | 11 January 2022We have been with T&C, then merged with Genisys now for over 28 years. During this time, we have had many car loans and have never had an experience as we are going through now. We purchased a 2017 vehicle and took out a 5 year loan. We have had AAA insurance for over 30 years, with no lapses ever. Nothing in our policy has changed within the last year, but somehow over 4 years into the loan Genisys tacked on $1,992.00 to our loan for CPI insurance. We didn't even know what CPI insurance was until looking on the internet. We went into the credit union and the rep asked us if anything has changed with out insurance, and said there are 4 mailings that go out before someone is charged. I can ASSURE you, we did not receive one mailing, let alone miss 4. Being 4 years into the 5 year loan, how could this happen now? I would think with 4 mailings, that would be an added expense with postage, paper and envelope. A phone call or email would of worked. Our contact information was up to date. It was an underhanded sneaky thing to do. It happened right before Christmas to which maybe one may not notice. We were told it would be taken care of, and I'm waiting to see that amount off our loan. We will never do another auto loan with this institution ever!!

United States | 12 November 2021I have been a member of Genisys Credit Union for about 10+ years. During this time, I usually have large deposits and not have any issues with the release of my money in Detroit. Recently, I had to go to Lansing on a business trip and on my way back I knew if I traveled all the way home to my frequent banking location I would not make it and the holiday was the following day. So, I googled the nearest GCU in the area and found one at 15405 Silver Parkway, Fenton, MI - Jill Coleman Manager. I tried to deposit about $6,000 in my savings, $2,000, in checking and the remainder to be cashed out. The checks were written from the State of MI and they denied me immediate access to my money and suggested I go to the bank it was written off as they should be willing to cash it. I could not believe what I was hearing. Mrs. Coleman, Branch Manager, informed me that she does not know me an was unable to cash my checks. I replied that I do not know her either but, I have been a long standing member of Genisys Credit Union for over 10 years and my account would reflect these large transactions in the past in which I had no problems with cashing in Detroit. I was so outraged by the racism and disrespect but had no other recourse then to leave. I am so disappointed that I have been a member with Genisys Credit Union for over 10 years with large monthly payroll deposits and large deposits from recognizable institutions like the State of MI that I would be treated like a common criminal. I knew the moment I entered the location from all the looks from the tellers that this was not a likely place that people that looked like me would frequently visit. However, I never thought I would be treated in this manner because I was a long standing member. I have to wonder if someone of a different race would have been allowed to complete their transaction.

United States | 10 November 2021Fraudulent charges on account. Genisys notified via email of questionable charges. Responded stating charges were fraudulent. Not being reimbursed. Two weeks with multiple calls and then informed the charges marked as fraudulent are not being reimbursed. Thanks for protecting your customers and taking their hard earned money!

United States | 22 April 2021Financed a seasonal use car through this company. I tried to put the car on storage insurance in the off season which unnessecarily required jumping through hoops every.. year... For a few of those years, they purchased, then refunded and expensive supplemental policy to cover the vehicle when I didn't get through the hoops quickly enough. I paid the car off very early, but unfortunately a mistake cost me $1200 in excess when my car was not put into storage this last year and I didn't even drive it one mile. I just wanted the same routine every year, but somehow that didn't prevent the waste of $1200. Time to change banks and auto insurance.

United States | 19 April 2021I was able to open a loan without having to go to a location back in 2018. In 2021 I was told I had to drive hours to a location to close the loan. I could not do it remotely.

United States | 31 March 2021I have been a long time customer with Genesis credit Union well over 10 years and this past year or so has been an absolute nightmare trying to do anything. For the past month and a half I have been trying to add a joint onto my account, something that should have been a 20 minute hour long process in the branch because I could not get to a branch I had to do it over the phone and through emails. They just now told me after a month and a half and several hoops to jump through that they can't add him as a joint because his license address does not match mine. This is something I asked about when I originally called about a possible adding a joint a month and a half ago!!! This is also something they have known about for a month and a half because they've had pictures of both of our licenses for over a month and a half!!!

Canada | 14 December 2020I have been a member of Genisys Credit Union for over 5 years now. In that time, I have applied for a few car loans, credit cards, and most recently a home improvement loan and home equity line of credit. I have been denied on all my loans, despite being a direct deposit member. I was denied with my most recent as well and it was a relatively low amount. I had given up on it. The next day, I was surprised to get a call from my loan agent saying she spoke to her manager. First they took a closer look at my personal situation and credit history. Then they helped get me a loan based on my financial goals and progress since I started at Genisys. THAT is the personal touch I was always told Credit Unions have. I was ecstatic at the fact that they genuinely wanted to help me and found a way. They even went the extra mile and helped me consolidate the debt that was holding my credit score down. Highly Impressed! Highly recommend!

United States | 01 December 2020Stay away from this predatory lending company. My dealership incentivized to go with this company for the auto loan and they charged $3000 collision insurance to my loan principal because during covid & working from home, I placed my car in storage. I only realized what was happening until I noticed my auto pay went from 370 to 679. No attempts were made through a phone call or an email to notify me . Read all the fine prints before signing anything with this company.

United States | 26 September 2020Hi i am writing this review for a couple of reasons. 1st reason is i applied for a mortgage and honestly I had issues with getting it to a clear to close and my ex-wife saw my frustration and sent a review about Genisys that from what i understand was ? let me say "not nice". I did not ask her or even know that she wrote that review. So, Karen i know you thought you were doing the right thing but maybe should have waited for the end result before being that judgmental. Reason 2, Let me tell you that after over a year of searching in 6 different states I found honestly the property of my dreams in Oscoda Michigan. I requested a pre-qualification from Genisys whom i have been with since i was 18 years old. I am now 63. the truth of the matter is that after the seller accepted my offer my income to debt ratio was not good enough to be approved. I had my home up for sale but this seller had many cash offers for this beautiful property and by whatever reason, (chance, miracle) when i met this man and we walked around the property we must have been as his wife said to me later "kindred spirits" this man and his wife stated that they saw the look in my eye that reminded them of Mikes reaction when he first saw this property 28 years ago and these wonderful people accepted my offer over cash offers. when I got the news that I had fallen short of being approved I was shattered, broken hearted etc. I think you get the picture. I put down a $5000.00 good faith deposit that i was in jeopardy of losing. The people at Genisys Lynn, especially and Luke and kristie. These wonderful people stuck with me and never gave up on my dream. Lynn guided me on a strategy to improve my debt to income ratio and after all off her teams repeated hard work I still came up short. But they still did not say NO! to me. And I probably asked them for answers that they could not possibly give me a positive response for so instaed of just telling me NO, you do not qualify they stayed hard at work and we came up with the strategy that allowed me to be granted the mortgage for my want to live out my life at property. I admit i was frustrated and maybe a little rude with them at times. At any point they could have said you just can't afford this until you sell your current home. And been done with me. I am closing on MY new property next Tuesday. And the only reason that i am is because this team of professionals never gave up on me. Thank you LYNN. Thank You LUKE. And Thank you Kristie. I will never forget what you guys did for me. God bless you. Dave Friedrich.

United States | 07 May 2020Shortly after the Coronavirus impacted the United States I applied for a refinance on my house. I was approved and All i needed was an appraisal. The first appraisal came back low. I know this appraisal report was inaccurate. So i called back asking to challenge the validity of the report. That also did not work. Genisys credit union Told me to get another appraisal. While all of this is happening I’m under the impression I’m still approved for the loan. So i continue with the second appraisal. This second appraisal comes In 50,000 more then the first one. At this point I’m a little frustrated I’ve had to pay for two appraisals resulting in 50,000 dollar difference between the two. Armed with the current appraisal I ask the bank to move forward. They finally reply that they can not move forward until the government lifts the stay at home order. I was lead to believe that the loan was still approved based on a valid appraisal. I only tried Genisys Credit Union because of the lending practices. Feeling miss informed, lied to, and taking advantage off is not the best way to start a business relationship. At this point I’m considering refinancing with my current bank (PNC).

United States | 01 May 2020**UPDATE** Genisys actually listened to my complaints!! They recently added a no fee payment option that comes right out of any checking account. That being said, with their incredibly low rates, no fees to make a payment, and very kind customer service reps, I can now give them 5 stars. You will pay a fee for EVERY individual payment!! Avoid this place!! *In response to the reply, unless you have a way to waive individual fees, my review stands. I did a chat with a rep and she confirmed. So yes, you guys want the interest and a fee in the event the individual had extra on a paycheck to pay more. People need to know this.* **I did speak with a manager. He was friendly, but still, there is no simple way to just make a single, fee free payment unless you have bill pay. Added frustration, once you set up auto pay, the only way to change the date or amount you pay each month is to fill out a form and mail it in... it’s 2020... how is this not automated? As a credit union, I am concerned that you need to charge people a fee to pay their bills no matter what. Every single bill I have can be paid worry free by simply logging in and paying however I wish. Friendly staff, but I’m super disappointed.**

United States | 08 April 2020Threatened to FORECLOSE our Home on 4/7/2020 Today i spoke with a lady named Amy from the branch on M24 and Siverbell. She had spoken to my wife prior regarding 2 payments behind we were on our Heloc Loan (Total $575.00 Owed) My wife informed her that we have both been laid off due to the COVID19 Quarantine, and she replied by stating that if we couldnt pay by Friday April 10, 2020 that they were going to Foreclose on our home? Then I called Amy back, and the manager was Tammy, we have our house listed for sale and had an expected close date of March 25th, 2020 which i informed Tammy of, and now they state i broke our promise to pay, but there was no promise to pay, we only informed them we had accepted an offer on the house. So the buyers backed out of the purchase, and we informed the bank, but remind you we have a car loan (up to date) a Heloc (2 months behind, $575.00 Total), and a line of credit (up to date) and now we get threatened for Foreclosure? I asked what arrangements we could make as this quarantine has affected us as much as others, but they are unwilling to do anything. I guess if Foreclosing on our home for a 30K Heloc loan, that were behind by $575.00 makes Genisys happy, then i guess it shows what kind of people they are in a time of need like this. I cant state it is everyone at Genisys, But i have spoken with Amy and Tammy and neither was willing to assist with anything.

United States | 23 November 2019I've worked in banking for 9 years and for three banks in that time at various levels.. And I'll say that I've never seen such an unorganized financial institution in my life. Absolutely the worst lending experience I've ever had. Their systems are from the stone age and their people have no resources or will to fix the errors made by it. Do not not borrow their money

United States | 25 September 2019Took my son to the Deer Lake ( Clarkston) location to open a bank account. There were 2 people ahead of us waiting in the waiting room and one customer in the room. After 20 minutes of waiting and still 2 people ahead of us, took him to Vibe Credit Union and It only took a minute for a customer service representative to help him. Numerous times, I have gone to the Genisys in Waterford by the Dollar Tree (M59) and I have to wait in this long line with only one or two Windows open. The best is the Genisys on Dixie Highway, between Walton and Sashabaw. Never have to wait long and great customer service!
