I have Cycleplan insurance but now realise that Cycleplan are not totally honest about their bike lock requirements. Their security video shows someone using a d lock and a cable for the wheels. But they have now confirmed me that they insist on a sold secure standard for wheel locking as well as for the frame. If you have a bike worth over £1000, which many do, then no cable will suffice. Instead you need a gold standard chain to lock both of the wheels (as well as the frame) to an immovable object. That probably means buying something like a pragmasis 11mm noose chain of at least 1.5metres, which weighs over an extra 3kg, in addition to a gold standard d-lock weighing at least 1.5kg. A chain of that circumference can easily damage the wheel spokes when inserted or removed. I've therefore decided to buy insurance from other companies and have not found a single one that requires gold standard wheel locking. So, by avoiding Cycleplan, I can save weight on my rides, avoid bike damage, and still get good insurance in case of theft. I strongly suggest others do the same until Cycleplan changes its policies.

Not enough knowledge about lock ratings but very helpful with everything else

Do not go near Cycleplan, defiantly do not give them your bank details. They would not cancel my insurance when it automatically renewed, despite acknowledging I had emailed them within the allocated time frame. They pretty much doubled the price of the original insurance quote when it was renewed without my consent. Now they want an additional £21 to cancel the policy. Have had insurance with Cycleplan for 2 years with no claims. They treat customers really badly, do not waste any of your time with Cycleplan.

I’m not very happy as the advert for this Insurance said it covered scooters and upon realising that it doesn’t have the scooters unless it’s on your own private land. I could only take out liability insurance so I went ahead with that option only then also to find out that that didn’t cover me after I paid for it That it’s also only currently on private land and therefore trying to get hold of this company to speak to somebody about this policy. I have incorrectly taken out it’s proving to be very difficult and I feel I have been deliberately duped into this policy.
