I recently completed the 8 Day Best of Japan Tour Package with Tourist Japan with my family including two teenage kids who were nagging us to go to Japan for years now. We completed the booking process on their website and two weeks before the trip began I had a video call with Yulia who reached out to us and went through the trip itinerary, answered all our questions, and got back to us with some things I wanted to clarify. She explained how things work during the trip so we were ready, especially the things which are unique in Japan such as how the train works. My highlight of the trip was Mount Fuji—it was truly a dream come true to witness such a breathtaking place and its stunning views. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the day absolutely unforgettable. The kids loved the Tsujiji Market which something special, we tasted things like never before. We were super impressed with the Tourist Japan team’s responsiveness and support. A special thanks to Noah, who checked in with us every evening before the tour to ensure we were clear on the meeting point and time. He truly understood that this was a once-in-a-lifetime trip and went above and beyond to help us make the most of it. Thanks to Tourist Japan, our dream of visiting Japan came true in the best way possible.

Excellent tour guide (Coral). Being a small group made the tour feel very personalized. I would avoid going during major holidays though, there were a lot of crowds.

The Tokyo Small Group Tour with Guide exceeded expectations! Our guide (Coral) was fantastic—extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about sharing Tokyo’s history, culture, and local insights. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, giving us a well-rounded view of the city. The small group size (7 people) made it feel intimate and allowed for personalized attention and flexibility. The guide’s recommendations for food and shopping were also spot-on. This tour is perfect for first-time visitors or anyone looking to deepen their understanding of Tokyo. I would highly recommend it!

An absolute nightmare. Instructions were confusing and changed. The guides were variable. Some tours were different than were described. Imperial palace gardens closed (they should have known. It was scheduled to be closed). So many different trains with different ways of accessing tickets. Often took half an hour and multiple people helping to access them. Everything was piecemeal. Local train fares not included in tours. Unrealistic itinerary. Three hour train to Kanazawa to have 2 1/2 hours before everything closed.

Excellent day tour of Tokyo. It was a full day with 15km of walking plus two train trips over 7 hours. We covered so much more than we could ever have done on our own. Aki was a fantastic guide. He spoke good English, had a great sense of humour and was a wealth of knowledge. We learnt a lot about Japanese history, tradition and culture and he went out of his way to make sure we had a great day. We were lucky enough to have him all to ourselves and he was able to customise the tour a little according to our interests but I am sure he would do just as good a job with a larger group. This was easily the best tour of our two week holiday in Japan. Highly recommended!

Hi! I just wanted to take a minute and sing the praises of our Tour Guide today Ariel Gustavo. He took us on the walking tour of Tokyo and we had such an amazing time! He took the time to explain the history and culture of Japan and made sure we got to see everything that we wanted to see. We felt like we saw so much, but we were not rushed at all. Maria, Very nice tour to see shrines and temples in Kyoto. Very knowledgeable and very friendly who provided in depth information on each of the sites. Nara was a great tour of the temple and the deer were everywhere. If you bowed to the deer the deer bowed back and appreciated a cracker.

Our guide HJ was a perfect host, funny, warm, approachable and very knowledgeable. Such a great opportunity to try a huge range of foods with the safety of someone to help decode and point in the right direction! A very fun night out!

We had a great trip, seen a lot from the highlights of Kyoto and we surely recommend Yoss as a very good and very friendly tour leader.

We got an opportunity to travel to Japan only a few weeks before our departure date, and Tourist Japan was able to put together a phenomenal experience for us on very short notice! We had an amazing time in Japan thanks to them being the "matchmaker" between us and the hotels, trains and day-tour operators. Our tour was based on the 11-day "Ultimate Japan" tour package for three travelers, with a few customizations. Some of the highlights for us included: - 1-day Tokyo small-group tour: Aki was a terrific tour leader! - Bus tour to Mount Fuji (from Ontabi Tours): Some wonderful sights with great stops selected along the way! - Walking tour of Osaka: Tim (from Hungry Osaka Tours) was a phenomenal guide, very charismatic and we loved his perspectives on local history and his favorite neighborhoods! - Bus tour of Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa (from Japan Panoramic Tours): Yasushi was full of energy and fascinating facts. Shirakawa-go is definitely worth the trip, even in the snow! - One-night stay at a ryokan in Kyoto (Toshiharu Ryokan): a lovely and charming experience with incredible service and a great breakfast! The ryokan didn't have an onsen, but it had Japanese-style hot tubs that we could reserve for a private bath — a definite perk after our winter hikes! The one area where Tourist Japan fell short was in communication with the day tour operators during our trip: - The details of where to meet for each day's tour were sometimes incorrect or incomplete. Tourist Japan gave us written instructions that were occasionally vague or hard to follow, and the Google Map links in their emails were sometimes for the wrong location altogether. - Tourist Japan gave us emergency phone numbers for each group tour, and provided their own 24/7 emergency hotline, but we never reached a person at any of the phone numbers we tried; we left messages at the Tourist Japan hotline but they never called us back. Some of the phone numbers answered with a recording saying that the phone was off and providing no way to leave a message — which is very stressful when you're having trouble finding a tour group before it departs. - We were scheduled to have a private walking tour in Kyoto, but our guide never showed up and the contact numbers we had for the guide didn't work. Tourist Japan refunded us the cost of the tour, but we would have preferred it if the tour had worked out! All these issues aside, we had a delightful time and an amazing experience. If Tourist Japan can improve the communication between their travelers and their excellent day tour operators, and improve responsiveness on their phone lines, this would truly be a five-star experience.

Good tour! The only thing was that I had a hard time to find the meeting place. Better instructions would be good.

Our tour guide Aki was AWESOME. The sights were amazing and the journey was fun. 20000 steps and not one was wasted.

Our guide Tomas was fabulous. He took the time to explain the history and meaning behind things with respect to Japan and the culture but also the knowledge of someone that has lived outside Japan as well. It created some great insights and experiences. The connection prior to the tour to ensure that we knew where to meet was great (anyone that’s been to Tokyo knows how crazy the station exits can be for a first timer). He made sure he understood what we wanted out to the tour. This helped tailor it to our specific groups needs. Tomas has some great little insights and tips for us to use when we explored on our own and happily shared any insights in what other tours or options were available if that interested us. I definitely felt comfortable and like the experience was worth the time spent.

At Chan is a very energetic guide who looks after her group very well. We had a great day in and around Tokyo, would definitely recommend!

My family and I used Tourist Japan to do a private tour of Mt. Hakone and Mt. Fuji. I traded many emails with Danielle when planning the tour and she was very friendly and accommodating. Seiji was our tour guide and he was amazing- very friendly and knowledgeable. He even brought us to a great little restaurant that specialized in Japanese fluffy pancakes.
