My experience with In Car Music wasn’t perfect. My advice is, if you have a premium vehicle like my Porsche Macan, don’t bring it here. Granted, the actual workmen behind the scenes (I believe that one of the guys is called Andy) are generally pretty good at what they do - hence the 3 stars. But if it wasn’t for the fact that they gave me my car back in good condition, and that the other two items I asked for were fitted to an acceptable standard, I would be scoring the store 1 star. It all started when I asked them to install an Apple Car Play unit into my Macan. First they said it couldn’t be done, so they convinced me to have Screen Mirroring instead. Then after checking my PCM on the day they said it could be done, so they ordered the part, which meant that my car stayed with them overnight. This is despite Anwar taking photos a week earlier, presumably to run a check on what PCM I had. Then the next day during fitting, Anwar calls me to say that somehow all of a sudden my PCM 3.1 doesn’t have touchscreen, so they can’t fit the unit in - a completely ridiculous claim attempting to cover up their inadequate knowledge of such a vehicle. I’d been using touchscreen every day in my car since I bought it, and I told him this. Then suddenly his approach changes, and he says it’s just not possible to have Apple Car Play in the PCM 3.1, so do I want Screen Mirroring instead. Believing that these guys know what they’re doing and that I have no choice (I knew that Porsche only retrofit Apple Car Play units into Macans reg 2017 upwards), I agreed to have Screen Mirroring fitted, at a £500 cost. He also says they’re running behind with putting panels back on my car, and can they keep my car overnight again, to which I replied in no uncertain terms, “NO”. Of course the car was ready well before I got there. At home a few hours later, unconvinced at the excuses that Anwar has given me, I decide to investigate whether Apple Car Play can be fitted into my Macan, and lo and behold, I find a company that not only confirms that it can be done - they also sell the unit WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL IT. Two questions to ask here: A) Did In Car Music have a good unit, and just not have a clue how to install it? or B) Did their supplier provide them with equipment that just doesn’t work? In my opinion, a reputable car company that has been in business for 20yrs should be able to fit units into cars, and if they can’t, they should find out how to before trying and selling the customer a dream... And they should also be able to source correct equipment through creditable suppliers after such a long time in the business. But neither of these fundamental principals were evident in my case. I decided to call Anwar a few days later and inform him about my findings. I told him that I’ve sourced an Apple Car Play unit THAT ACTUALLY WORKS AND IS PROVIDED WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE VEHICLE IT IS REQUIRED FOR. Seeing as though you have promised me Apple Car Play and not delivered, and instead given me Screen Mirroring which, in my opinion, is nothing like Apple Car Play and a big waste of money, can you remove the Screen Mirroring unit and replace it with the Apple Car Play unit that I have just purchased? Anwar said he’s not sure, can I send him the Instructions PDF so him and his team can have a look at it before committing. He said he’ll let me know on Monday (14/01). What there is to be unsure about I’ve no clue - as I say, INSTRUCTIONS WERE PROVIDED. Either your team can follow instructions, or they can’t - they was no coding required.... Anyway, I forwarded Anwar the instructions on 12/01 and surprise surprise, I’ve not heard from him since. Perhaps he’s keeping the instructions so that they can use them if another Porsche comes in. Hopefully they won’t bother after reading my review. In the meantime, I’m £500 out of pocket with an unsuitable unit that I didn’t initially ask for, and your company has not even had the decency to speak to me about replacing it, even though I’ve bought a replacement unit myself, and you’ve got a refund from your supplier for the non-working unit you tried to put in my car.... Poor show Anwar and In Car Music. Very ungentlemanly conduct. Needless to say, I’m not impressed.
