I've been working with my counselor, Huihong Hao, since sophomore year, and the experience has been amazing. She's supportive of all my interests and really encourages me to pursue what I enjoy while also introducing me to new opportunities I may not have considered. She focuses on nurturing my passions and puts a lot of effort into learning who I am as a person and student. During our sessions, she prioritizes making sure my opinions and concerns are heard. Her writing feedback is insightful and thorough, and she's very flexible with scheduling. Especially with summer program applications, she's been a tremendous help in everything from researching which programs to apply to writing the applications. Her approach really takes a lot of the stress out of college applications and allows me to focus more on being introspective and figuring out what I want for the future. I highly recommend her (and Empowerly's) services!

Empowerly really helped me write my college application essays. We had a series of sessions to gradually improve the essays, and by the time I submitted the application, my essays were fabulous.

I had a great experience working with Raisa Alam for the RPS prep session. We worked through the application process, and she made the whole experience very stress free and left me feeling excited to start the research project.

Daniel R has been an excellent counselor. His advice, essay help, and expertise resulted in me getting a full-ride scholarship to Duke University as well as into UCLA, UC Berkeley, University of Florida (full ride), University of Miami (full ride) and much more. We had the best experience with Empowerly, better than we'd hoped for. Our high school senior daughter is a bit on the stubborn side and resists suggestions (ie: interference) by mom. But she also wanted to attend a top university. She interviewed two counselors and both were amazing in their own ways but one just connected so well with her and she selected Xander. Xander was the perfect balance of patience and understanding and also held her accountable through all of the essay revisions. She ended up falling in love with a school Xander brought to her attention, Boston University, and she wanted to major in International Relations, which they rank 17th in the nation for. She did decide to apply Early Decision and she was accepted. She is now the most excited senior in her class! She has a good gpa and good ACT scores, but so many do, and others had better scores and were not accepted. We truly believe that it was the essay that got her in and for that, we thank Xander for pushing her through that. BU had over 80K applications and a freshman class of 3100. There is honestly no way she makes it in without Xander and all of the support she received from Empowerly. It was money very well spent and the value can't be explained until you see your child reading her acceptance from her dream school. And, as a bonus, it took all of the pressure off of me. If mom said to do it, then no. But if Xander said to do something she was all over it. He was very motivating and positive and that worked perfectly for her.

My counselor, Eileen Blum-Bourgade, was very helpful during the entire application process. She kept me on track, as well as informing me on ways to stand out amongst other applicants. Not only that, but she always had answers to whatever questions I had. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I loved working with her.

As a parent who went to college in the late 80s / early 90s, I had no idea on how to navigate the college application journey. Things have changed. Things have changed ALOT. I felt ignorant and really did not know how to assist my daughter, especially with this difficult college class of 2027 admissions cycle. I spoke to many college counselors and I found that Empowerly had the best approach to this daunting task. They matched my daughter perfectly with Mandy Chen as her personal counselor based on my daughter’s intended major and interests. They put my daughter in the driver’s seat. My daughter did the work, yet they guided her with the process in the most thorough way possible. My daughter set up zoom appointments. They initially met weekly. They developed a robust list of schools with a wonderful mix of 5 safeties, 5 target schools and 3 reach schools. She developed essay topics and supplemental essay topics. She developed a resume and made sure she took the ACT a few times. She applied to mostly southern schools and many had made the SAT/ACT mandatory. Mandy assisted with my daughter’s timeline to make sure she was on track to submit her college applications by the appropriate deadlines as she applied to many EA schools. Ultimately, my daughter’s dream school was Florida State University. I used to think it was a safety school, but like I said earlier, things have changed. And they changed DRASTICALLY! This was one of her reach schools along with University of Florida and University of Georgia. I am pleased to say that my out-of-state daughter was accepted to her dream school! A feat that she once felt was impossible became a reality. Low and behold, FSU had only a 24% acceptance rate this year, but my daughter beat the odds. Her grades, her resume, her extra curriculars, her ACT score and the gentle guidance from Mandy Chen and Empowerly made the experience that less stressful! As a matter of fact, she got into two of her three reach schools, was deferred from two and got accepted to all of the other schools. I am truly grateful. Thank you Mandy and Empowerly! Stacy was a dream counselor. From her first meeting with Ella, until the acceptance letter, she treated us as if we were her only clients (and we weren’t!). She understood the anxiety surrounding the application process was always available to answer questions and keep Ella on track. Stacy empowered Ella to dig deep and think about what she wanted colleges to know about herself, and she helped Ella see herself as an interesting, well-rounded, and compassionate human being. The Empowerly team has been instrumental in supporting my son and daughter in the college admissions process.
