New Zealand | 03 November 2020Earlier this year (2020) I looked for a new bed. I wanted a Sleepmaker one. Harvey Norman was having a 50% off sale. I saw the bed that looked good, and went to HN Whangarei to view it and test it in the store. They didn't have one on the floor. I asked them about this bed and specifically asked if it had memory foam (which I hate). I was told it didn't and was shown a bed on the floor which I was assured was exactly like the one on their website. So I bought it and paid $1600 plus $72 for delivery. The sales assistant asked if I wanted a mattress protector and I said I already had one and she never volunteered any further information. When the bed arrived several weeks later, my first night was horrible. The bed is full of memory foam and in the morning, there is a deep impression of where I laid. This depression stays there all day and it forces my body to lie in it. It's like I'm about to roll out of bed and when I try to move towards the middle of the bed, I have to climb uphill. This brand new bed is worse to sleep on than my old bed. I phoned to complain and was told HN have a return policy on beds but I would need to speak to the original sales assistant. I did so and was told I couldn't return the bed because I'd chosen to not buy the waterproof mattress protector and had therefore voided the warranty. None of this had been told to me at the time of purchase. Despite me having a mattress protector on the bed plus a wool fleece electric blanket and a sheet protecting it, the warranty was voided. It stinks. This bed is awful to lie in, they lied about the memory foam, and didn’t say I needed to buy their very expensive waterproof mattress protector and showed a real lack of business ethics. Shame on you Harvey Norman Whangarei.

New Zealand | 27 October 2020The worst customer service I have ever experienced. The first and last significant purchase I make at Harvey Norman. I purchased two heat pumps with installation. The online purchase site charged me a delivery fee that I was told would be refuneded. After months of chasing this fee, even visiting the store, emailing the salesperson who served me (who turns out to be the department manager), and dealing with their online chat, nobody ever got back to me. If you value your money, burn it rather than spend it at Harvey Norman.

New Zealand | 19 October 2020We wanted our study renovation to allow us to enjoy warmth in the winter and coolness in the summer, so hunted for a heat pump that would suit. The wall for installation is corrugated metal (yes, really), so we ideally wanted a silver colored one. Harvey Norman were able to help us choose something that suited (from Mitsubishi Electric), but ensured it was the right rating, recommended a fantastic fitter who was a breeze, and offered all of this on interest-free credit terms. Amazing.

New Zealand | 23 September 2020Harvey Norman by far has the worst computer pricing that I have ever seen you can literally get one of their PC's that they "try" selling for 2.7k and go directly to someone like PB Tech and they will sell you the exact same spec PC for literally 1.3k... you are insane harvey norman

New Zealand | 10 September 2020I visited Harvey Norman Photo Centre Invercargill today and have walked away gobsmacked!! I was trying to download photos for my granddaughter from my phone but kept getting FAILED on the kiosk chosen. My husband went to the counter for help and after showing the assistant we were experiencing she said I dont know why this is happening and cannot help. We tried 3 separate kiosk and still the assistant said I dont know why and she could not help!! I then left and went somewhere else to download the 15 photos I wanted for my granddaughter!! 😣

New Zealand | 04 August 2020Purchased a Belling wine fridge and as soon as it was plugged in an obvious fan meeting something else noise was heard. Down to HN and get told I can't have the fridge levelled or there is no clearance. I persist and get a job number. Time goes by, actually nearly 4 weeks and I finally hear from their service contractor. He confirms a new fan is required. More weeks pass I ring them to ask what is going on. Turns out the part was ordered but lost in transit but of course until I queried I doubt if any of them would have followed up. Get told that they will just get a new fridge as one showing in stock up in Ak. A week passes by, no fridge no contact. Again I ring only to be told well we only get stuff sent by our suppliers when they get around to it. I explain but this is a warranty claim surely someone follows up on this? Get told they will investigate only to then find out that fridge got sent to Palmerston North. Again I'm asking them if I didn't ask when if at all would this ever have been picked up? Thought I'd for a laugh make a complaint on their website. Next day get phone call from whiteware dept from the lady who was going to organise the replacement fridge about my email complaint. She starts talking away and I'm like wait are you the manager since you're talking about my email complaint? Yes she says but up to that point at time she hadn't identified herself as such. This time just like previous conversations with her it felt like she wanted me off the phone as soon as possible and tried giving me her sob story that she will have to wait 5 weeks for a fridge she is buying off HN. I'm like why do I care about your fridge and more importantly where is mine? This saga is 2 months and counting. After promising me that she would call one way or the other the next day she of course lived up to the exceedingly low customer service standards of HN. In the meantime the fridge amazingly turned up. Funnily enough the PN fridge was ready for delivery on the Saturday but they rang my partner who unfortunately told them we already had one. So I guess as far as they are concerned it's all sweet, the word sorry only got used after my email complaint. As far as I'm concerned I'm never going to buy anything of them ever again. And on top of it all it's far from quiet ...

New Zealand | 04 August 2020If I could give no stars then this would be it. Harvey Norman Tory Street would possibly be the worst retail outlet for staff and customer satisfaction ever. None of these sales people possess any product knowledge and even less customer service. I only buy what I have researched and the deals are ok, but the grief you get from a return due to merchandise not fit for purpose is incredible. They blame you or anything else and work on a script to convince you it is your fault. I brought an oven which did not possess the right clearance for a connection to fit in a wall, and when returning it, the assistant was wanting to sell me something else but when I asked if it had the right specific requirements to fit he had no idea but insisted that I buy something else. Unbelievable. These people are so arrogant they did the same when I purchased a Dyson which actually are just ridiculous overpriced Dustbusters and not suitable for family households. The mentioned in their sales pitch that they are great for family homes however short of agreeing to my argument that it’s too troublesome as a heavy duty vacuum they insisted their pitch and sold it as a vacuum cleaner when they knew would not be fit for my household. I tried to return it but they refused and said nothing wrong with the product. A fair go episode should feature their appalling treatment to customer. I will not make a mistake a third time, this Aussie company should be sent home!

New Zealand | 27 June 2020I bought a Lenovo tablet, a speaker, Samsung phone and Garmin watch. Exemplary service and product knowledge from Ash, Tom, Marcus and James. Clear explanations on how to use the technology even days after full payment.

New Zealand | 07 June 2020Harvey Norman Botany, again your customer service is declining. Again our Bissell Vacuum cleaner has broken. The first lasted two years nearly, we bought it back and after a fight with you because you stated that we need to wait 10 days for an answer from the repair center, which we said was unacceptable as we have a household with 3 large fluffy dogs and couldn't wait that long did you replace it, although we had an extended warranty on it. It was replaced in Dec 2019, however the replacement lasted 2 months and broke again in Feb 2020, same fight, wait ten days for the repair center and only after I kicked up a stink did it get replaced the next day, and low and behold, this replacement broke after 4 months, same response wait 10 days for the repair center, which we cannot do, due to the same reason. Harvey Norman you should be ashamed of yourselves. Even your staff are not friendly nor customer focused anymore. You will lose our patronage now which you have had for over 20 years. You are quite happy to take customers money, but not happy to stand by your products or support your customers. There is no where that I can directly make a complaint on your website, we have to go through social media, which is not our preferred choice. Our job number is 2560-394379, should you wish to contact us our details are on there, which I were much doubt you will. Your disgustedly an ex customer.

New Zealand | 29 May 2020Bought a bedroom set from them earlier this month. The delivery was expedited from expected within three weeks to within two weeks. Great. The sale person who sold was great. Unfortunately he went on sick leave. The problems start after that. There is no one who can give an honest reply. Another sweet talking lady (can name her if required) just gave a lot of misleading reports. Took almost any communication very lightly. Promised for delivery between 9-6 this Friday. Having waited for almost the full day upon inquiry I was informed that it is not booked at all for delivery. Very very disappointing, very unprofessional way to deal with clients. Hopefully it is in good hands now. There is no formal procedure to put in a complaint on their website. At least not that I could access.

New Zealand | 04 May 2020Very good, friendly service. Placed an order online for click and collect, the things I wanted were IN STOCK and the order was ready to collect within the day. So much better service compared to Noel Leeming!

New Zealand | 25 October 2019I had a disappointing experience today (25/10/2019) at Harvey Norman's Tauranga branch on Cameron Rd. My wife and I went in to look at camcorders with accompanying SD card and case, and was assisted by the very helpful Stu. Unfortunately, the store does not keep charged batteries, and so I could not try out the camcorder in store. Stu put a battery on charge for us and we said we would do other shopping and return later. So far so helpful. When we returned later, Stu discovered that the battery had been knocked off its charger and so had not charged enough for us to test out the camcorder. So I agreed I would return in the afternoon, allowing 3 hours for the battery to charge this time. I returned after 3 hours but I could not see Stu -- when I enquired of him, I was told that he was on his lunch break and would be ½ hour or so. However, a couple of minutes later I saw Stu in another part of the store assisting another customer (in other words, I was told a lie), so I let him know I was there and waited. In the meantime, other sales staff tried to help me but I told them I was waiting for Stu. Eventually, Stu said that Lachlan would help me while he was with the other customer, and so Lachlan tried to sell me something much more expensive than the camcorder that I was looking at. When this did not work, Lachlan allowed me to try the camcorder with the now-charged battery, which I then bought along with an appropriate SD card (of which he also tried to sell me the more expensive version) and an appropriate case. However, Lachlan redeemed himself by offering me discounts on the SD card and case which I accepted. He then entered the details on the store's computer, and took me to the till by the door, where I paid according to the details he had entered. When I got home, I went to store away my receipt and noticed that I had been charged twice for the case. I called the Harvey Norman number on the receipt and someone with very poor English responded ( I had to get her to say her message three times before I could understand her), who eventually put me through to "Judy" at the store (who spoke English perfectly). I explained that I had been charged twice, and Judy said I should return to the store for a refund. The store is 15km round trip, so I was not pleased that I had to go to the store for a third time today! However, I returned to the store and got my refund, with the cashier at the till apologising to me. I was happy about the products that I had chosen and happy with the discount that Lachlan gave to me, so for that I would have given this store 4 stars. However, this was more than offset by having to go to the store two more times than I needed to: firstly, because the store does not have a policy of keeping charged batteries available for prospective customers to try out camcorders or other electrical goods; and secondly, that I was overcharged by Lachlan who pretended to give me a discount. For this double disappointment I took away three of the four stars. The over-charging was reversed (and so one start is redeemed) but only because Lachlan was caught out -- what if I had not noticed? I will not trust him again. Having to return to the store the first time may be due to an accident/mistake; but having to return twice in the same day, *and* be lied to about Stu's presence *and* the store's phone being manned (or womanned) by someone with poor English, looks like there is something systemically wrong with the management of this store. It will take a lot for me to return to this particular store.

New Zealand | 19 October 2019I bought worth of NZD 2,500 items from Harvey Norman Tory Street store and their "after sales customer service" is very very poor. They are totally unprofessional and even don't bother to reply in time. I've reached to the conclusion that they don't even care. Advise: "Highly Not-Recommended" to buy any stuff from Harvey Norman.

New Zealand | 17 May 2019I had changed email provider for my business email. It was very urgent to have someone change the settings on my laptop. I took it in to Whakatane where Arash did it all for me, as well as my phone. He was very patient, easy to talk to and very polite. Really went out of his way to help. He was exceptional! The cost of it was more than reasonable. Thanks Arash for your outstanding service, we need more people like you in Retail Customer Service. Thanks again, all working well. Paula

New Zealand | 18 September 2018I purchased a set of printer inks and lost them somewhere between the Dunedin store and home. On the off chance I had left them on the counter...I called the store and struck a gem! A young man called Nathan who went ‘above and beyond’ started looking for me. He checked the sales on the day I purchased...he even searched in store camera footage and then called me back. Fantastic customer service!! Thank you Nathan.

New Zealand | 14 May 2018First went into the store and sales person didn't really want to sell us anything. Admittedly it was out of stock but no offer was made to order it or looks at alternatives. So came home and ordered online. Understood product was currently out of stock, we were happy to wait but expected that would mean a short wait, maybe a week at most. To cut a very long and boring review short. That was over 2 weeks ago. We have chased up 4 times. Not once have we been given an update just the same meaningless excuses. Been told a couple of times that we will get a call back or an update which is never honoured. We were no desperate for the TV but when they are happy to take your money you want the product in a reasonable timeframe or a refund. Don't advertise products that you don't have. Still advertising it now.
