I cannot recommend TFX highly enough. The questionnaire upon which the return is built is easy to follow, with help boxes, facility to upload supporting documents, and facility to write comments if you are unsure of something. (The help boxes supply information specific to my country of residence.) Having submitted the q once, it appears pre-populated in subsequent years. The website archives all your previous questionnaires, documents, and completed returns. You are actively guided through submission. Best of all, there is a skilled person available via e-message throughout if you need them. I don't know if it is common, but I have had the same person for several years now, and she knows my return well and the parts that are trickiest to sort out.

The questions to answer for finding all information to complete the tax returns are very well organized, clear and with help and comments easy to use. Plus taking over as much information from the previous year takes over a lot of the repetition. The preparer is quick to respond with specific help and questions.US

I do not recommend them for multiple reasons. 1. Their TOS says that they are not responsible for any mistake. 2. When you sign "Engagement Letter" you are done, if you decide you don't want to proceed with them you pay fees, and not in any case they will provide refund, for example you have to pay $200 deposit at least. And they won't refund it if you decide that you don't want to continue with them. 3. They've made crucial mistake in the address when giving me instructions on how to fill, which I have documented. Their article for instructions Is currently missing information on which address to mail for foreign owned LLC's. Current address available: Internal Revenue Service Center P.O. Box 409101, Ogden, UT 84409 USA Address you actually need to use: Internal Revenue Service Center P.O. Box 409101, Ogden, UT 84409 And they call themselves "Taxes for expats" when not having correct information for us. They didn't state this to me, I had to double-check and ask them. I could've sent to wrong address easily. And they also said first I CANNOT FAX IT. While IRS instructions clearly state that i CAN Fax it. Don't recommend them. Painful experience double checking everything for $700 fee.

The process was easy, my assigned CPA was quick and and responsive, it all seemed well done. I definetly use them again.

TFX makes the daunting process of filing taxes as an expat easy.

Site promoted a discount streamlined procedure for 1300$. Once I submitted all my documents, their fee jumped to 2300$. Day after sending me the inflated bait and switch fee, they constantly send spam rushing us to pay, by email, phone, whatsapp, voicemail, unending constant spam. I had to go somewhere else with tranparent fees and no spam.

Taxes for Expats provides every year for the last four years with excellent service leaving me relaxed of the hassle of tax preparation. Heaps of thanks to TFX for their prompt and clean process. I would have had to search everywhere for help and wouldn't be able to find it. Thank you.

As a satisfied TXF customer since 2015, I've found their service to be excellent for basic tax filing needs. Their automated system works well for expats with low or moderate income, especially those with straightforward expenses, family structures, and financial holdings. However, TXF's limitations become apparent for high-income earners with more complex tax situations. Their system isn't designed to optimize tax reductions for these individuals, nor do they offer in-depth explanations of tax concepts. For example, my assigned preparer for last year (2022) didn't explain quarterly estimated tax payments, leading to potential penalties for me. This lack of guidance was particularly frustrating as a newcomer to this aspect of the tax code. In short, TXF excels at automating basic annual tax returns. But for high-income individuals or those with complex financial situations, a dedicated CPA is a far better choice. A human advisor can provide personalized strategies, discuss tax code intricacies, and offer ongoing guidance crucial for families and new tax filers.

It is a professional service, but the pricing is not transparent and costs get sneakily built in. As an American Expat living abroad with zero income except a modest investment account, the cost for TFX to prepare my return is $500.
