I spoke with American Financing (Lisa M.) and explained our desire to refinance since our current mortgage and HELOC are at a much higher APR (~6% and 8% ARM) including the fact that COVID19 has impacted our financial situation and our 1st mortgage has been in forbearance due to the pandemic. We provided all the requested documents, our credit was checked and the process for refinance seemed to be progressing. However, Lisa seemed to treat us like we were somehow inferior clients since we live in a duplex (she mentioned that she missed the fact that our home shows 2 units) and her communication essentially ceased after one of her assistants informed us that we were not eligible to refinance due to our COVID19 forbearance. I reached out to Lisa about the situation, and any possible alternatives, and she never responded to my inquiry. We have since educated ourselves on remedies to the pandemic forbearance (there are two options apparently: pay 3 payments out of forbearance to be eligible for refinance or make the account whole all at once and be eligible to refinance immediately). I erroneously trusted American Financing to know the rules about a refinance in our situation and now we have a hard inquiry on our credit report that could have been avoided if Lisa would not have proceeded with our application after our initial refinance inquiry. I will not be re-contacting American Financing when we are eligible to proceed with a refinance. Overall, I am very disappointed especially considering the endorsements this company has from local media outlets.

I was told refi process would take 90 days from the time application signed and submitted due to high volume and demand to refi. I provided all needed documentation upfront and signed application Dec 4th, 2020. My loan did not complete underwriting until Mar 3 and was completed and approved. They have yet to set a closing date. I’ve called and complained several times and received multiple statements that they are overloaded with refi and things are taking longer than usual. Now here approaching April and silence. No follow up or follow through. Stay away. I’ve been working with Mike McCone through my process.

Either a straight up scam or a very poorly run company. I applied for a mortgage, initially they were very responsive and quick, until they got all my documents and then...nothing. I was told it might take a couple weeks to get a pre-qualification letter, it has now been over a month and no response to any email. Tried to check and make sure they had all the documents they needed, no response. Tried to get an updated status, no response. Tried to get an update on the timeline, no response. And this is just for a prequalification letter. If they can't handle this step, I can't imagine how bad they will be at the other parts of the mortgage process.

I had an interest in refinancing my home last fall. American Financing was highly touted on the Glenn Beck Show, so I decided to start the process with them while interest rates were low. My first emails with them were on 11/11/20. My contact, Steven Bruce, indicated they were slammed with activity and that I should expect the process to take 6-8 weeks. The process moved at a reasonable pace. The appraisal came back good. I was told my credit and other parameters were good. Then, silence... I've attempted to contact Steven and the two other contacts I had encountered during the loan progression multiple times. I was able to actually speak with someone once (Steven) and was told someone would get back with me. No response. I sent a message through their contact page a couple of weeks ago. More silence. So, here I sit over 4 months after the process started and I can only assume that my request has been abandoned. In the meantime, interest rates are rising and the cheap rate I expected is likely not available any longer. Of course, if I could actually get a response from anyone I would be able answer that question. I can only hope that my experience is an outlier. I can't imagine them staying in business for long if there are many client experiences like mine. I cannot recommend them based upon the experience I've had with them.

I wish there was a way to give negative stars! My advice is to RUN AWAY as fast as you can from this company. I hope Peyton Manning sees these reviews so that he knows just what kind of company he is associating his name with! We started the "process at the end of August, 2020 with them. Gave them all the info they requested. They came back with a good offer and explained that due to COVID (everyone is using that as an excuse nowdays), it may take a little longer than usual to close. Well, there has been a complete lack of transparency in this whole process so far. No one keeps us up to date on the status. Their "portal" isn't updated for months at a time. You have to call and call. We got our FIRST closing date as Dec 12 (all dates are approximate). That came and went as now they suddenly needed more documents (we gave those at the beginning). More closing dates came and went until in January they came back and said they couldn't do the loan they had promised and we had signed the disclosures for. They came back with a much lower rate but it now had PMI attached which made the payments just as high as before. We had a closing scheduled for around the end of Feb (now going on 7 MONTHS!) and even had a call from the notary to set up an appointment! That was cancelled. I am now getting really pissed! I had called a friend in California who is a mortgage broker during this to see what he was doing. He was shocked to hear that it was taking this long. He said that even a difficult refi should only take 60 days. Last week we were assured that the manager of American Financing guaranteed that we would close this week. It is now Wednesday afternoon, nearly 8 months after starting this process, and not one peep from them. UPDATE: We waited until Friday (Mar 13th) and called them again after not hearing anything. I was so pissed I had to walk away from the phone while my more subtle wife talked to them. Found out that they took so long AGAIN, that the payoffs and credit pull expired AGAIN! I said that was it and fired them. We will not give them one penny for anything they did. And to top it all off, on March 17th, we got an email from then stating this: "There are still a few more things we are working on, but we are getting closer to your loan closing. To check the status of your loan or to see if any other documents are needed, please visit your loan portal. Please know it is our goal to make this process as seamless as possible. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Hope you have a great day!" We talked to our credit union again and they got us a great rate and we are closing next week! Three and a half weeks after we called them!

This company takes forever! I’ve been in underwriting for 2 months and they won’t lock your rate. I have never had a no cash out refinance take so long!

This is the second time John Hazel has helped us refinance our home. Both times he worked with us quickly to get us the rate and loan we were wanting. He also helped to get information out to us how we requested. We are "old school" and very protective of our private information and John made sure we felt comfortable in how information was sent and received. I have worked with American Financing on my home purchase and refinance. They get everything taken care of with no stress or worries. Craig Gardner did a great job and was very professional and quick to respond. Everything was well explained and he got everything done as quick as possible. They are excellent at getting my refinance set up and I love how they work as fast as possible! To those that complained about it taking long, just remember the pandemic and everyone in the country refinancing all at once so it took longer than usual, but I am very satisfied with my new loan!

As others have said...HORRIBLE UNRESPONSIVE COMPANY! Sorry, Peyton and Glenn have not done their due diligence on this one! Spent 5 months in the process, basically just waiting. Was “set to close” but never got a date or email confirming or even a return phone call. Finally gave up and moved on to another lender. Btw, I had a small refi (under $100k) and a 770 credit score with no appraisal necessary....should have been a no-brainer

John Hazel with American Financing was great to work with. It took a little over 3 months start to finish, but he was upfront at the beginning about that. I did recieve weekly update calls and anytime I had a question there was a quick response.
