Despite Bents being a lovely garden centre, I do not think their staff are treated well. When I was visiting recently with my daughter (we are new to the area) it was a busy time and this lady working in the cafe area was shouting at a poor employee who merely tried to help an elderly lady with her tray. She shouted to the employee to “get back to her station!!” She was told she could not leave her station. So I went to rescue the lady as no one else was allowed to help and I found this extremely unprofessional to degrade an employee in front of customers. Not only that but the door was open by the till and all staff looked freezing cold wearing just a top, it was December after all. I asked one poor girl about her coat but she admitted they weren’t allowed one as it wasn’t uniform policy?! Absolutely awful, at least provide staff with fleeces if they can’t wear their own coats. I refuse to shop somewhere that does not treat their staff well.

After critizing the poor quality Eccles cakes visited Bents again today purchased scotch eggs and they were truly best ever had highly recommend truly delicious

Placed an order Christmas Eve for their one and only sale. I knew from previous years experience what would happen and sure enough it happened again. The store only opens on the 27th and this affects click and collect. Basically, if you order online any other person shopping in store beats you to the available stock, even though you placed the order before them and stock was showing available online. I even phoned to express my concerns about my items being picked by physical shoppers before they had chance to allocate them to me and was assured my stock was put aside and I just had to await an email confirming I could collect. Sure enough, three hours after this phone all I had a email saying I had a refund of the full total. All 16/16 items in my order. No apology. Lesson learned not to use click and collect again!

I purchased 3 Lemax automated model items online. The price at Bents was the best I found. They arrived super quickly. One item needed to be returned due to a small defect (a very delicate item) and my money was refunded, plus my postage, immediately on receipt. What great customer service, shame I live hundreds of miles away, I’d love to come in and browse. Thank you Bents!

Friendly staff who are happy to help answer my questions and point me in the direction of what I’m looking for. Your store is like a treasure trove of lovely things and your cafes and restaurant serve delicious well presented food. The plants in your garden centre area are of excellent quality and variety,manned by knowledgeable staff. It’s always a great day out!

I took a friend to Bents yesterday, for some Christmas Shopping as a favour, as she hadn’t been out for a long time. Great couple of hours shopping, then went into the restaurant for a coffee before heading home. I ordered two Americano coffees, one fruit scone, and a gluten free scone for my friend. The girl took ages to come back with the gluten free scone, she eventually did, and we took our tray to the table. The coffee was so disappointing as by then it wasn’t piping hot, so I went to the counter and asked for some hot water, in the hope that it would heat it up, but it didn’t. I ate some of the fruit scone, which as usual was delicious. My friend opened the cellophane on the gluten free scone, and it was quite clear that the scone had just been defrosted from frozen, hence the long delay at the counter earlier. It was impossible to cut through, and only the top third was edible. I then went for another pot of boiling water, in a further attempt to heat the coffee up, but it was never going to happen. I have been going to Bents for decades, since it was just selling Rose Bushes, and I’ve never experienced any problems previously in the restaurants. Not once was I offered fresh coffee, rather than water to try to heat it up. Needless to say we both left half a cup of cold coffee, and 70% of the gluten free scone. My friend did speak to the girl who had served us on the way out, and told her about the inedible scone. Such a shame it spoiled our visit, particularly as my friend had not been out for such a long time, and it was supposed to be a treat. I know the restaurants are very busy, but when you order hot drinks, you expect them to be piping hot, and defrosting a frozen scone to serve to a customer is disgraceful. If you haven’t got a fresh one, just say so.

Tea with Santa Young children did not know Christmas songs sung by Mother Christmas songs aimed more at elderly parents or grandparents, children not involved in singing. Games in a cramped area not well planned. My 5 year old grandson plays football and goes to boxing classes not happy with the teddy bear gift gave it to the dog.
