This is my experience with fields-data-recovery.com: I sent my failed drive, and got back a new drive with most all of my data intact. These guys were quick to tell me that they could recover my data, and sent me a listing of all my folders and files to review before I had to pay. Like an idiot, I made two mistakes: 1. I didn't replace the battery in my UPS, so my computer was not protected. 2. I didn't backup my data. My computer received a voltage spike, and the UPS with the dead battery couldn't switch over to protect my computer. The drive head must have been sitting on the partition table, because the partition is what got damaged, rendering the drive completely unreadable. I guess these guys were able to either write a new partition without wiping the data, or they were able to scavenge the remaining data off of the drive. Either way, I got my data. It was a bit on the expensive side, but my data is important to me. Rules, kiddies: 1. Always use a UPS. 2. Always keep the UPS battery in working condition. 3. Always do backups of all your data. 4. I had a great experience working with Fields Data Recovery. I had an external hard drive that had fallen while it was running, and the insides were completely shot. I had it evaluated by another recovery agency and the quoted price for recovery was $2500. I was shocked that it would cost that much and looked for other options. Ultimately, FDR did it for $1200. The whole experience was very positive. It was very simple (and free!) to mail in, the evaluation included a list of what filed they expected to be able to recover, and they shipped everything back to me (except my old hard drive, which was useless) on a new drive. I hope to never have a similar experience (as far as destroying my hard drive goes), but if so, I will definitely return to FDR! They lifted a huge weight off my shoulders.

Fields Data Recovery made the best of our not so great situation. External hard drive wouldn't connect and turned out to be a bad component on the drive. We had two companies provide a price one gave a hard number no more no less whether data was recovered whereby Fields Data Recovery provided a price along with a list of all the files that could be recovered. After suffering hard drive failure, and attempting to restore my files on my new PC using the automated online backup service which I had used for years (although never needing to restore!), I found myself missing the most important files for my business, which had in fact not been backed up at all. I was in a real bind. Gigabytes of data, personal and professional files, on a portable harddrive lost forever?! I found Fields online, submitted a request, got a quote, and received a call back within the hour. I was upset and terse, but their representative was calm and reasonable, like he'd seen and heard it all before but without condescension.
