United Kingdom | 13 August 2023Better off without them I want to start with the beginning and be as concise as possible, as has been a while since I finalised the buying process. I have used an MA as a result of my research, which indicates to be the best way to do when getting the first house, but we shorty find ourselves wrong. Scutfinancial Services came out as a recommendation given by a friend that sold a house through them, however, the buying process is a bit different I've seen. Our case has been assigned to Ross Bowey who act for the entire process very professionally on the appearance. He talked me through the process and charged us before showing us the offers. Then the problem begins. He presented us with a set of prices that seems to be higher than what we'd seen on the market, When we argued that we have seen cheaper somewhere else he stated that those offers are not for the first-time buyer but for different packages or cases. I kind of disagreed but let him to carry on. Then it come the Home insurance package that seems to be exaggerated high adding almost £50 over my normal rate and with the possibility to increase if I do not follow their policy of moving in the given time. That makes me think that he is trying to sell me the most expensive insurance he can get disregarding my wishes of keeping the cost as low as possible. Then comes the nightmare. As with every good candidate with a very high score of over 600 points with no other borrows or debts or anything to stop me from getting borrowed for this mortgage I had to wait about 4 weeks for the NatWest to approve the deal. During this time I accidentally found out that Ross has accidentally done a mistake on my initial documentation putting the wrong amount in the wrong place, I see that as a rookie mistake. But what is worse is that mistake reveal came from the seller's estate agent that ironically asked if we correct that, not from our MA, so we got him caught out n the open. But that was happening almost 3 weeks after the initial documentation submission. After 3 weeks of waiting and getting nowhere with the application we-ve asked for the tracking number to check for ourselves, but we had been refused by Ross after he offered us the wrong number initially on the grounds that that tracking number is for them to check not me. Even though the application was actually in my name???? At some point during our application, Ross went on Holiday having no one to cover for his absence as all emails we send bounced back. He showed an interest in working from his holiday and answered my emails, which I appreciate but is not normal as the company should arrange for a substitute person to take over these actions when their staff goes on holiday. With all that, the process took a total amount of 4 weeks to complete, as the information and corrections got sent to the bank late. Ross argues that the bank is very busy and it takes time to process those requests in time. But that was not all. Once received the mortgage agreement I noticed that the bank was paying Sout Finance a fee of £540 for bringing customers through this process, a service that I have already paid myself initially almost the same amount £549, or at least I thought I had. One more thing, the mortgage illustration has been presented to me at my request not automatically at the beginning of the process. Since the information above was included in the illustration. I again argued this with Ross, which apologised again for not sending it initially, But my honest opinion is that if he did and I would pull back he would lose the initial £549, I paid initially I then gave up on dealing with them as Ross's manager keep calling every 3-4 weeks to ask if the process have been completed, while saying for the second amount to be delivered by the bank I assume. Since the buyers were resolving other Issues that my solicitors have asked to do, I searched the market a found an even better deal than the one I had with Scout and give it a go, In just under 7 Days we had the offer sealed and signed and even more, The Bank's MA which I have paid nothing to talk with, Advised us on how to use our Help to Buy ISA in our favour, information that Ross did not offer, even if we paid for his Services. Since the process with Scout finances was completed, they assured of that I can't ask for any money back, as from their point of view the transaction was completed as it was. But want to advise every future first-time buyer, to search for yourselves and make your own judgment when it comes to mortgage as you might find a better deal than the MA's. Read a lot and understand the process and you will find yourself with fewer headaches and more money left in your pocket. One Bank I submitted my agreement in principle after presenting my case and actions taken, asked me if I knew that I can take the deals myself without using a MA as it will cost less.
