It has been 10 days since I asked why the tax preparer utilized the standard deduction when preparing my taxes instead of calculating itemized deductions when my itemized deductions were substantially greater than the standard deduction. I asked for an update 3 business days ago, but haven't received an acknowledgement that either message had been received through the bench tax platform. I did receive a message today through their accounting platform inviting me to review the service and offering a $25 Amazon gift card if I included my name in the review.

This was an initially good service but I've switched to Quickbooks with working a dedicated live accountant. I was incredibly displeased with my bookkeeping and tax experience this past year. NO LONGER WORTH THE COST. I was highly dissapointed when they missed the tax deadline as well.

We have used this organization for bookkeeping and tax filing since the inception of our business (4 years). We have very basic bookkeeping needs, and for the most part that has been fine. But this year, after 3 successful, no drama tax seasons, this 4th year has been a nightmare. They switched systems for their tax filing and it's impossible to get a response, they filed an extension without consulting us (and in early March when it wasn't necessary to make that call yet, all because their systems were overwhelmed). Now that we are in extension season, we're ghosted, and because you can't speak with someone directly until you make an appointment days later, it's useless. We will be moving our tax filing to a local preparer for 2024, and no longer recommend Bench to our clients and fellow business owners. Bookkeeping is OK, but the rest - we will not continue past filing today.

I've been a customer with bench for a few years. It was a huge step up from doing it myself on excel in 2020. In 2022 I hired an outside accountant to review bench advise me on business and they started raising their eyebrows about how slow the reporting was (2mo out) how typical categorizations were done wrong too. I moved to a new accountant / CPA in 2023 - 2024 with the same job to review book keeping and advise me and unfortunately bench just dropped the ball so bad that the same eye rolls started happening. Bench tried to take on tax prep services themselves in 2024 and my books weren't complete until June. I constantly have to categorize transactions that I've categorized in previous months and YEARS. There is usually a new book keeper every quarter at least. My 2nd accountant/CPA QUIT this summer. She said the bookkeeping is so bad she could not continue in good conscience to charge me to review their work! Here I am at the end of September, and I'm finding they just do not pay attention to what is happening with my business at all. I just found a revenue discrepancy for September of nearly $11,000. This impacts my ability to secure financing in order to grow. I unfortunately have been advised to close the year with them and then have my books transferred over to a new bookeeper / accountant. It's very sad. It seems they just have terrible management and hire people from out of country to keep labor costs low -- which is okay if you have a strong training and retention program. This does not seem to be the case with Bench. I cannot recommend any business person to do bookkeeping with this company. 2 stars because the built in charts are easy to read. I like the vision - hate the execution.
