I contacted Green Lake Jewelry to have them craft a custom engagement ring for me. I had been searching high and low to find a jeweler who was able to make a custom ring, with Celtic accents/knots/scroll work. Green Lake was not the only jeweler I found online, but they appeared to be by far the most reliable, with excellent customer reviews. Sadly, I do not live anywhere near any of the their store locations, so I had to do everything online or via phone. Needless to say, I was pretty nervous as to whether or not my hopes and needs would be met without being able to see anything they had designed in person. I was contacted by Ashley (my assigned designer) within one day of putting in the contact request. Ashley asked me what I was looking for and wanted done, so I pointed her to a ring they had previously designed. I told her the ring that I'd found pictured on their webpage was essentially what I wanted, but that I wanted to make a few changes to make it uniquely mine....or, actually my fiancé's. Ashley listened to me intently and asked all sorts of pertinent questions to further ensure that she knew what I was hoping to get. What's even better, is that while I had been searching for the perfect ring/jeweler for several months (I am NOT the most tech-savvy person out there), I was running out of time to get the ring made and in my hands before an upcoming cruise, which was the time I wanted to ask my beauty to marry me. As I explained to Ashley how I HAD to have this ring in my hand by a specific date, or my entire plans would fall to ruin, she immediately assured me that we had plenty of time and that I would get that ring in time for our trip. Over the next several weeks, we stayed in regular contact. Ashley stayed on top of things, without ever crossing the line into being overzealous. She just made sure that I was up to speed on the progress of the ring and contacted me at key points when decisions were needed. I was admittedly anxious when it came time to choosing the stone to go into the ring, thanks to past experiences with the "chain jewelers", who were always pushing a sale and always trying to up-sell every item you look at. You know what I'm talking about : "Oh, yes sir, that ring is beautiful. But if you want something TRULY exquisite, something she'll treasure for the rest of her life, let me show you this.... I know it's a few grand more than you wanted to spend, but......" you know how the rest goes. I was even more worried I was going to hear something similar since I was so far away, all our communication was over the phone or email and I had no idea what everything was going to look like until it was all done. On the day it came time to choose the stone, I prepared myself to hear "I know you said you wanted this carat weight/clarity, but I think you should look at this bigger stone..." Never happened. Ashley found multiple stones in the cut, size and clarity I wanted. I had given her a budget for the ring and stone and never once did she try and up-sell me. What's more, she found a multitude of beautiful stones, all within the guidelines I'd set, for me to choose from. Ashley took the time to send me pictures and videos of the stones in different light settings and modeled them on her own hand to give me an idea of their size. What's more, she actually pointed me to a stone that was on the lower end of my desired budget than the others in the group and told me, that in her opinion looking at it in person, it was by far the best looking ones out of the bunch, particularly for my ring. Once the stone was chosen, I received pictures of the wax mold with and without the stone mounted in order to get an idea of what it was all going to look like. I got photo updates of the molding, casting, polishing, basically every step from Ashley. When all was said and done, Ashley and Green Lake Jewelry got my ring done and shipped to me in my hand a full day ahead of schedule! More importantly, the craftsmanship was astounding. I've never seen a more beautiful ring, personally (and I'm not a jewelry guy), but I may be a bit biased. In all seriousness, EVERY step of the way in working with Green Lake and Ashley was a pleasant experience. But the end product speaks for itself. I asked her to marry me on Jan. 7th, as we were sailing past Havana, Cuba and she said yes. She didn't even really look at the ring until hours later, as it was dark out on the front of the ship and she couldn't really see much. We just stood there for a while watching the stars. But when she got back inside and into good light, she was stunned by the ring. I'll call that a win for Ashley and Green Lake. They FAR exceeded my expectations as to what I was going to get. As for she and I, we have already decided that both of our wedding bands will be made by Green Lake and Ashley is going to be our go-to gal. But we'll be making the trip up there for those, mostly so that I can thank Ashley in person, for having done such an amazing job. If you're looking for a jeweler to make your custom pieces, whatever they're for, and you want an experience and product that will supersede your desires and hopes, you've come to the right place if you're looking at Green Lake Jewelry. This was, hands down, the most pleasant "shopping" experience I've ever dealt with. From start to finish, it was all about me/her as the customer. The service was personal, not at all pushy and completely superior to anything I've ever experienced before. You will not find a more courteous and helpful staff who is GENUINELY more concerned with making sure everything fits your desires than they are with taking extra money out of your wallet. Working with Green Lake Jewelry was an unbelievable experience. The staff is warm and welcoming. I loved creating my new ring with my designer Sophia. She was thoughtful of the significance of the stones from my old set and how we would design them in the new ring with the addition of other family stones.
