I used EMA to transport my grandmother on the 18/04/2022. My grandmother had stage 4 cancer and needed to be transported to our family home as she wanted to pass surrounded by her family rather than in her care home. The care home called 999 and the paramedics came and saw her with the palliative care nurse and we decided with grandma that this was her final few hours and that we needed to get her transported home as soon as possible. I assumed the paramedics could take her home back to Cambridge - however they said that that wasn’t allowed as they are an NHS crew and couldn’t go that far away unless it was an emergency transfer - so they suggested I looked at local private ambulance services. I’ve never had to book one before and I didn’t know they existed! I thought it was all NHS! But it turns out there are lots of different ones. After looking at the recommendations and speaking to the paramedics they recommended EMA as they had seen them at the hospital and spoken to their crews and said how professional and well turned out they were. The office team were fantastic - I spoke to Sam on the phone and he organised the whole thing from start to finish. I was surprised at the price too - as it’s private healthcare I was expecting it to be thousands - but actually it was very reasonable. Money wasn’t an issue I’d have paid whatever it cost to get grandma home - but when Sam at the office told me the price I was very happy as some of the quotes had been very expensive in comparison. The crew who transported grandma were fantastic, well presented, the ambulance was immaculate, brand new and warm and there were plenty of blankets and pillows and grandma was very comfortable. It had a stretcher and comfy seats - grandma started in the chair but on the way felt tired and needed to lay down and the crew helped her across. Due to the COVID19 restrictions I couldn’t travel with grandma - but I was very happy the crew was able to look after grandma and make her comfy. We followed the ambulance and got her home and into bed - the journey took about two hours and it was smooth and comfortable and they even had water and some basic snacks on board. They even stopped when grandma needed the toilet and helped her go at the services. Absolutely nothing was too much and once we got home they helped us at the other end and helped grandma into bed. Sadly grandma passed away the week after, surrounded by her family and even had a blessing from the vicar. If it wasn’t for the ambulance crew and office staff I don’t think she would have made the trip. I can’t recommend EMA ambulance services and their paramedics enough.

Thank you for your incredible dedication and assistance on Friday, enabling us to get Mum back to her home in Cheddar. At a time when I was tearing my hair out at the intransigence and ineptitude of some of those that I was dealing with, dealing with yourself and EMA Patient Transport was frankly a breath of fresh air. Your kindness and helpfulness at a time of deep distress was so welcome amidst the darkness. The Crew that you sent were so considerate, keeping me abreast of their every move from leaving the depot, giving me an estimated time of arrival at the pick up point, then an ETA at Cheddar, allowed me to relax in the knowledge that Mum was in the hands of real professional’s. Upon arrival, the caring and gentleness while handling Mum from the ambulance through to her room stood out, so careful and considerate – not once did I have to assist or even point anything out to either of them. At a time of huge stress and concern for me, their composure was so calming, exemplary and truly inspirational. Please pass on my thanks to them both, they truly are heroes. Your team has facilitated my mums last wish – to be back in her ‘home’ close by, to allow us to visit her in her final days. I thank you for your efforts and assistance in making the last days of our mum what she wanted.

Everything exceeded our expectations. The staff are absolutely first class with plenty of patience and humour. The ambulance was immaculate and very comfortable. This is clearly a company that takes great pride in what it does. Our wholehearted thanks to all the Team.

The crew updated me on their expected arrival time, they arrived on time, were very professional in their manner and were considerate in where they parked to preserve the patient's dignity. EMA is a fantastic organisation, run by an incredibly well trained and professional team. I've had the pleasure of working closely with the owner of the business, Sam, who I've found deeply cares about the quality of transport he provides to his patients, he always strives to make sure the vehicles are up to date and kitted out with the tools required to enable even the hardest jobs to be undertaken.
