I submitted all the documents. They charged close to 1,500 for preparing my taxes, and it took them 45 days to simply review and complete it. I had all the documents organized and ready. I answered any question the CPA had within 1 hour. Yet it took 45 days. I think its ridiculous that the time it would take is so much.

Everything goes great, until the IRS charges you way more than TFX claimed they would due to an "error" on the returns they submitted. In my case it was because my daughter did not yet have a social security number when filed as a dependent. After living abroad for 18 years it slipped my mind that this would be a big issue. In general I am not experienced in what it takes to file a good tax report, which is why I paid this company $1700 to handle it for me. When I suggested that they should have informed me the year my daughter received my SSN would have such a big impact on my return, they said it was my fault for not entering that information on their questionnaire. There is no specific question about this on the questionnaire, rather you would need to enter it in the "notes" field, where important information that could effect your returns not asked on the questionnaire is supposed to go. Basically if something goes wrong, their stance is that it's because you didn't tell them about it in the “notes” section.

My situation was quiet complicated with income from different countries, inheritance, and other complications. TFX did a great job working through all the complications and finalizing everything easily within the allotted time. I recommend them for expats.

Their online tax questionnaire makes it easy to provide all the information they need to prepare your return, and in subsequent years, you can pull up the data from the previous year and just update numbers, etc. where needed, saving time and work.

TFX staff are helpful, polite and prompt. The tax questionnaires are much more user-friendly than other expat tax services and I found the way my account areas are set up, including sending and receiving messages between my tax account and myself was organised and intuitive. TFX provides customer incentives which I appreciate. The flat fee structure is transparent and they were significantly cheaper than the other expat tax services I have worked with. Overall the entire process was calm and business like and a relief compared to previous experiences and I am happy to say that I am now up to date with all my taxes. Thank you.

Starting from the beginning, I chose TFX because they were consistently on top of Google searches. The website looked legitimate and the pricing, $400 or $500 for my taxes (I didn't need the Streamlined procedure), was more than I'd paid before but not by a lot. I filled out the questionnaire, which was long and precise but I guess it was necessary given the ridiculous tax system the US has. The forms are good and the website is well made. Then I got a quote for $1,200 for my taxes. I was blown away by the increase by more than double of what I had expected. However, having spent the time to fill out the forms, I figured let's go with it. After some time, my accountant got back to me and explained I needed to pay another $300 or so FOR TWO MORE FORMS. I couldn't believe it and was furious. They were asking for 3 times what their website says it costs and more than I already pay accountants where I live. I complained to management and then they waived the fee. As we went along, the accountant found a mistake in my previous year's returns and asked for another $600 to fix it. I just couldn't believe that we were now talking about $2,100 had I not balked at the first request. Just unbelievable that it is rated so highly and people are not complaining about the incredulous cost! I would never use TFX again if I can help it. I will find other accountants or services or even try to bungle through it myself since I could a week off of work and focus on it and save myself literally thousands of dollars.
