This is the best option for doing taxes while in Japan if you are running a business or have higher income. If your taxes are a bit complicated I recommend them. The price has increased over the years, but it is worth looking into if you want to save a lot of time and hassle.

Used Tfx for 4 years of returns as US citizen residing in Switzerland/France and now US, highly recommend. Complex situation (can't detail here) but no problem at all in their standard process. Particularly like the clarity of the online questionnaire, fast & precise responses from assigned accountant (had different ones different years), and clear next steps on what to send where and paying taxes (which is stressful too). US taxes are annoying obviously but they make it smoother which is great.

I have used TFX for 7 years and I have always had a helpful accountant and I really like the way the questionaires are streamlined and roll over from year to year. If you need to go back and check anything like I have, everything is saved. It is a bit costly for someone who is not making a ton of money abroad but it is worth it to have piece of mind knowing that I am in good standing with the US government. I also appreciate the referral service and their generosity with giving out credit opportunities to offset the cost of the services.
