This review is not really for the end result of the rental of the vehicle. More so for the great assistance from the reservation of the unit and the openness of the individual who works in their call center in AZ. Robbie Sinteral, Reservation Specialist has been a CLASS ACT from my first contact with him through picking up the RV unit and having issues to get the Customer Service Department to discuss how the RV was delivered to us. If I had an opportunity to employee Robbie I would do it in a HEARTBEAT! Thanks Robbie for your professionalism and openness through our journey. It's too bad that Cruise America does not have several of you in all departments. Because if they did they would be making more money than they know what to do with. As for the departure center and the Customer service agents that is a whole different experience. :0(

UPDATE 3: Finally, a supervisor from the CA Customer Relations got aware of this review. A fair compensation was offered. Wonder whether all this could have been easier to fix. UPDATE 2: Two weeks and still nothing despite reminders. Makes very clear how much they value their customers. „We would like to make this right again“. Haha. UPDATE: You may think "Hey, the customer service responded quickly to this entry". Yes, they did and I responded a week ago. Silence since... We reserved a 30 ft from Houston to travel to Tampa. Problems began before departure: Despite confirmation by the agency Best Camper, we were informed that we cannot return the vehicle in Tampa. We were re-routed to Orlando, which required re-booking a rental car and now a one way fee. At the pick up the Agent - Randy - fought for almost an hour with the printer. He served customers wanting to buy a pre-owned RV while we were waiting to finally get going. He offered us kitchen equipment with a kettle that had an old teabag in it that was inhabited by worms. The RV was damaged outside (unprofessionally repaired) and somewhat dirty inside. Driving and housing experience: - vibrations in steering wheel, one front tire down to the steal layer / life-threatening - after replacement of the tire, there was a constant tire pressure alarm - fridge did never switch to electricity, high LPG consumption - gauges for waste water showed random levels, you never knew when to empty - water coming into vehicle after rain - mattresses covered with plastic like in a brothell, we needed to buy a cover to not drown in sweat. - pillows and towels dirty, cheap stuff - sleeping bag good for winter but not Florida Overall you can buy this personal kit equipment for less money than they charge you for rental. Customer service was largely disinterested, compensated the tire repair cost, the extra LPG, and fees for one day. So far, no excuse to release a car in such a dangerous / poor condition, no further compensation than the described minimum. We have ample RV and CA experience, the vehicles from CA are never perfect but priced reasonably. This time we had our worst experience, though. Best Camper claimed that they talked to the manager in Orlando who had promised a generous solution - the guy was totally blank when we arrived.

I would leave 0 stars if possible. Customer service in resolving problems and contacting us back was awful. First week of our trip the refrigerator was not working. Their solution was for us to get ice for coolers everyday. There are 7 people in our RV and we are touring the southwest US where temperatures are currently averaging in the 90s. We are now into second week of our trip and now the AC unit for the camper portion of the RV is not working. It is currently 86 degrees inside the camper at 11:00pm. It is 72 degrees outside the camper!!! So outside is cooler than inside. How my 5 children are actually sleeping is amazing!! They must have passed out from heat exhaustion. Their solution was for us to drive more than an hour one way to get on a repair shops schedule for them to look at the problem. No guarantees that they would fix it, just look. Then, at our fuel cost, drive over an hour back to get back to our scheduled stops on our trip. I researched and found a local mobile repair man was certified specifically for AC units on RVs and was in the city we were staying in. Cruise America said his services would not be authorized because the trip charge was too much. So here we lay sleeping (or trying to) in an 86 degree camper on our trip. Like I said 0 stars on customer service.

Unfortunately, the "hidden fees" entirely ruin an otherwise positive experience. When your contract is outlined in-person, there are many optional services you can pay for that aren't outlined previously during booking. Much like a rental car agency, you can decided to fill up on gas yourself OR have them do it for a fee. Similarly, you can dump the RV greywater/waste yourself, clean the RV yourself, and a number of other services yourself -- or pay Cruise America to do them for you. What they DON'T tell you is who determines if you're going to pay for those things. You can do all those activities yourself: fill on gas, dump the RV, clean the RV -- and when you drop off the RV, you'll be told "Oh, looks good, we'll send you your bill via email". You'll walk away and drive home with a smile on your face because, seemingly, everything went very well and you had a positive experience. And then you'll get your bill hours later, long after you've driven home, and random fees will be tacked on. Oh, you returned it full and clean, but wait a minute... why is there a charge for that? What's this other stuff? After long back-and-forths with their customer service team, you'll be told: they get to charge these fees "at their sole discretion". No evidence needed, they'll bill you whatever they want. Long review summary: Don't trust this place to honor their pricing. Take photos of EVERYTHING before you return it. Get a written or printed receipt outlining all charges prior to leaving. Even if you know you're doing that prior to renting this RV... you'll still be fighting them when they upcharge you for random services. The RV experience is otherwise positive, but their pricing is exceptionally dishonest.

Even though we had a failure to launch, we will still look into Cruise America in the future. The day before we were scheduled to pick up our RV for a weeklong trip (after having made all the camp reservations, set up house watching, purchased groceries) Cruise America called to tell us we wouldn't be able to pick up our RV because someone had broken into a bunch of them and robbed and trashed them. Despite the immediate panic at the status of our trip we still understood that this was a situation somewhat outside their control. Maybe time to up security at their lot? They gave us a corporate number and we were able to get our deposit refunded and an apology. We scrambled and found another rental agency and the trip is still on. So in spite of resulting in an afternoon of ulcers, I would still give Cruise America a second chance based on their ownership of the issue.
