A great experience with Chris McHenry of the Edinburgh office. Chris was friendly, quick to respond, straightforward and a clear communicator. I've rented for 6 years now and this was my best experience yet.

DJ Alexander are the epitome of the word abysmal. The parting gift was their attempt to deprive us of our deposit. The landlord initially tried to withhold it almost entirely as he didn't feel we'd painted to professional standard. In actuality, they'd tried to push back the move in date twice at the last minute so we had to deep clean and redecorate the flat ourselves (with permission) as the landlord didn't want to pay for it to be properly done. Upon moving out, DJ Alexander suggested if we didn't take the amount of the deposit that wasn't withheld we could lose the sum it in its entirety and would be subject to months of delay. This is entirely false, tenants are entitled to the non-disputed amount instantly and contesting the amount doesn't delay this. DJ Alexander (who should be neutral) attempted to bully us into accepting the lower amount. Many tenants will be in a position where they need money to move so this intimidation and lies will likely lead to them accepting a lower return of the deposit or simply unaware of deposit law. To avoid any doubt, the deposit fully belongs to the tenants unless the landlord can prove otherwise. DJ Alexander (on behalf of the landlord) also tried to charge us for items missing, despite us previously having submitted proof that we had permission to dispose of these. These items were mouldy, damp and disgusting and would have been a health concern to have in our home. When our rent rose DJ Alexander even went to the effort to tell us how generous the landlord was to raise the rent by a certain amount. At this time there were rent controls and the rent was actually raised to the maximum permitted to the exact penny. DJ Alexander, gave us a checklist for moving out and this contrasted greatly to the condition we moved in. Despite this, the person completing the checkout inspection listed items as excellent condition and the only issues were the painting that the landlord wouldn't pay a professional to do and we carried out at our own expense. Likewise, we had to wait several weeks for hot water because the landlord went in circles getting quotes from different companies to scrimp on the cost of the worn out boiler. No discount or help was give. Despite these supposed issues, the property was for rent at around £500 more than we were paying when chose to move. One other lowlight was their changing our rent day forward. That's okay but charging us two payments in one month to facilitate this was absoltely not. In the end, we recouped almost all of our deposit following our contesting the decision.

The whole process was simple, efficient and trustful. In case you have any issues, they will help you fix them. We were lucky that Carol Clark was amazing and helped us a lot throughout the process.

Most incompetent estate agent my partner and I have ever experienced

TLDR; do not maintain rental properties, incapable of holding a simple file for the property they are supposed to be 'managing', let out properties in disgusting conditions. My partner had the pleasure of finding a used condom upon entering the flat for the first time. DJ Alexander have proved to be the most incompetent letting company in the UK over the past 2 and a half years. As a tenant for a flat DJ Alexander were 'managing' here is what you can expect: 1. DJ Alexander noted multiple issues inspecting the flat prior to it being let out to us. 2 and a half years of complaints later and these issues persist along with the side effects of them not being fixed. This has ended up costing severe detriment to the quality of life for tenants and a cost to the landlord to fix issues which have been left to fester and grow. Each yearly inspection they did their 'tick box' exercise of looking around and logging exactly the same unresolved issue as the year before saying 'they'll get someone to look into it'. Nothing ever get's fixed. 2. Upon entering the flat we, as tenants, diligently went through the flat noting all issues and logging in the DJ Alexander maintenance portal. All issues were closed down by DJ Alexander without ever being addressed. Disgraceful. The time we have taken to log issues for our landlord has been disregarded. 3. We rented a property that for extended periods had no use of the en-suite shower, no hot water, gas leak, corroded gas flue, smell of raw sewerage in the upstairs bathroom and master bedroom, broken electrics in the whole living area, severe leak from upstairs bathroom pouring water down into boiler room. All without any reduction in rent from DJ Alexander. 4. They refused to return our deposit despite us enduring the above, and cleaning meticulously throughout. The property was left in a far cleaner condition than when we moved in. Yet we were still charged. We paid to have all soft furnishings professionally cleaned prior to moving out. The incompetent chap who dealt with our Checkout was made aware of this, however still instructed the same cleaning to be done again charged out of our deposit. Be wary as this company seems to have miraculously improved their trustpilot score. Are a number of legitimate reviews being removed? As I have said above we have photographic documentation to prove the catastrophic failings of DJ Alexander and hope those who read this review have not yet committed themselves into a contract with this despicable company.

Carol Clark and Micael Pereira in the Edinburgh team were outstanding in their customer care as our son rented a flat with us guarantors. Because our money was not all held in a current account the Goodlord app was difficult for us and Carol sorted it all out quickly and patiently, Micael was great with all the other admin required. Would definitely recommend and our grateful thanks to them both

Yasser and all the team were absolutely amazing in selling my dads flat for me. They all worked very hard and kept me up to date with everything that was happening. I honestly don’t have one complaint in anything they all did. Yasser In particularly was fantastic at his job and I was very impressed with him from the get go. All the team made a very difficult time for me so much easier and I’m so grateful to them all. Also the lawyer Donald Towsey who Yasser got for me was also brilliant. As someone moving quite some distance I was apprehensive but I spoke with Kieran and he answered every question I had promptly which made the whole experience far less stressful than I had feared! Overall a really friendly customer service experience to help a really smooth transition:)
