I’ve been taking my vehicles to Horsepower Motor Centre for close to 20 years, whether that be for regular service & MOT or for minor & major repairs. I also bought a vehicle from them a few years ago. Without question, the best independent garage in the area and in my opinion better than the main dealers too. I am not mechanical in the slightest but Roberto and his team of exceptionally skilled engineers (Mike, John, George et al) plus expert customer service advisors (Ben and Kyle), are always on hand to answer questions, in laypersons terms, and I always walk away knowing exactly what’s gone wrong, why and knowing how it was resolved. I always get a friendly greeting from Alex and Josh too, who always find the time out of their busy day to say hello. A hugely trusted company, exceptional levels of integrity and quality workmanship, all at incredible value.

United Kingdom | 29 June 2021I purchased a Red Mazda MX-5 which unfortunately turned out to be not fit for the road. I had to sell my car to make way for a house deposit and looked for a cheap fun car which would be good for my May trip to Scotland, I came across the mx5 on horsepower, it was on the more pricey side of what I wanted to pay but had low miles for its age and was advertised as being a very clean car (the pics reflected this), it also supposedly had FSH. It was a 260 mile drive down to view the car from Yorkshire - upon arrival the salesperson was very helpful. I looked round the car, I couldn't test drive (covid apparently) I was able to try in the car park. We then went in and over the details, the FSH was a very thick 2 wallets full of docs so I didn't check every piece but did flick through. The car seemed as described so I went home to check funds were in place etc and had collection scheduled for the next week. I drove down again and got the car, on the way home the car was running hot but thought this may be normal for an older car. Once home I went through the 'FSH' and realised that in fact it was NOT FULL and the last 2/3 years of info were missing and the car may not have been serviced for that time. After some calls back and forth they eventually agreed to cover the oil change cost which was not right as it needed a full service! They then agreed to cover the full cost and I booked in the car at a specialist for after my trip. (Prob 1) The next day I went on my trip, I noticed the engine started to sound off. After leaving the car overnight I checked the oil, and the level was BELOW THE MIN mark and of thick consistency which means a large amount of engine damage could have been caused by driving hundreds of miles on low oil. This should have been done by the dealer in their supposed 104 point check. (Prob 2) After returning home I took it in for it's service with the specialist, the car was with the mech 30 mins before he called me to let me know there were HUGE problems with it, inc: 3 Brakes spongy - probably need bleeding 4 Front N/S disc corroded to inner face, but not severe, nor MOT fail 5 discs brakes have the shields eaten away by corrosion. 6 Dampers rattling (annoying, but not an issue) Corrosion: 7 Cills have patches welded over them. 8 N/S rear cill has rusty hole. 9 Panels to rear of rear arch corroded and no long support the wheel arch liner. 10 Rear sub brace severely corroded (MOT fail) 11 Front cross brace badly corroded 12 Rear arch lips bubbling 13 Underseal over everything hiding substantial corrosion throughout the underside. 14 Centre Cat missing (MOT fail) 15 Front N/S droplink worn. (MOT fail) 16 O/S front wishbone ball joint boot split (MOT fail) I was completely shocked as just a week earlier the car had it's MOT done at THEIR OWN MOT centre and was given a 'clean bill of health' other than some partial corrosion to the subframe. These MOT failures would have been clear to see - after some further investigation speaking to other garages in the area it turns out they are known for putting things under the radar on their MOT's. Hmm. (Report will be going to DVSA) I then asked if I could hand the car back, as per my rights, they said yes but due to their T&C's wanted to charge me £1 per mile I'd done in the car and i'd just done 1100 miles! I understand this is their policy but find it DISGUSTING they would charge me when they sold a DANGEROUS illegal car! Especially to a poor young man buying his first house! They would not budge on this and only gave me a £400 discount for the miles to and fro the dealership - £700 bill for me (a lot when buying first home) :( I returned the car Sat 19th June, partial refund came through 24th, still waiting for a breakdown of this + AA £400 warranty which I asked to be removed but still charged me for. The worst bit is, the car is back on for sale for £600 more expensive than originally and some poor person is going to make the same mistake! - AVOID!

He helped us find exactly what cars we were looking for and once found, helped us through the buying process. He also sorted out the MOT, registration and taxing of the car, so everything was ready the day we picked it up. I would definitely recommend HPMC and Danny to anyone looking for a car from a reputable family dealership.

The sales person Danny did all he could to reassure this would be a straight-forward purchase and sent a number of videos, texts etc to provide the information I required. Apart from some delay on the delivery day all has gone very well and most importantly the car is as described and I am pleased with the purchase.The car was a 2009 Mini and was probably the lowest mileage, highest spec Clubman available in the UK when bought.Many thanks.
