United States | 20 April 2023I have been a 30 year Altra credit union customer with boat loans, LOC, commercial loans, credit cards and 30 years of working with the credit union. I think it is pretty ridiculous that because I prefer a paper statement they want to charge me $3.00 per month. We will see if someone is empowered to fix this. I called to talk to an Altra associate about this, and during the call I got disconnected. When I called back and asked for the person I was talking to, I was told they just went to lunch. Who does that?....unless they really don't care about the customer.

United States | 01 April 2023This organization should rename itself "Neurotic Credit Union". I opened my account online and followed/submitted all of their requests, but that simply wasn't enough! They wanted even more information from me and blamed it on the extensive fraud that apparently runs rampant through the country. They conveniently ignored the fact that I had already given them everything they asked for. I had no choice but to comply with their ridiculous request and they eventually opened the account. The debit card I requested took an absolute eternity to be mailed to me and then I attempted to add the card to GPay, but lo and behold you have to get this credit union's 'approval' to do so. This feat required making an actual call to their pokey, overwhelmed "customer service". A few weeks later, I wanted to add Gpay to my new smartwatch-but this too required yet another call to their lackluster customer service. My POV is this credit union wants to be "big brother", doing their best to prevent you from using your own money. Incidentally, most reputable credit unions post direct deposits the moment they receive them-but NOT Altra. They behave like a standard retail bank (shudders!) in this regard and deny you access to your money that they blissfully hold hostage until the very last moment. Maybe the name "Awful Credit Union" was already taken. I certainly have given up on all their overwhelming, unnecessary obstacles and will do business elsewhere. Update: 04/05/23 Shortly after I posted this review, Altra requested TrustPilot force me to identify myself which I did. Now Altra is claiming they're sending me a "private message". I think this shows that they cannot (or will not) dispute or debate any of my assertions for everyone to see. They simply wanted to know who I was. A sad statement indeed! Update #2, 04/05/23 In Altra's published response, does anyone see the fact they did not address the fact that they withhold direct deposits until the effective date? As I stated previously, this is the behavior of a standard, run-of-the-mill retail bank. I think Altra simply masquerades as a credit union. Update #3, 05/01/23 Altra received my direct deposit on Friday, April 28th. As of this writing, they continue to show it as 'pending' meaning that I have no access to it. Most reputable credit unions do not do things this way; REAL credit unions post direct deposits the moment they receive them. I strongly encourage any reader NOT to do business with Altra as they care only about themselves and their wealthy clients. Update #4, 05/01/23 Altra's response today is a flat out lie. For over two decades, I did business with a credit union in upstate New York (GPO) which posted direct deposits the moment they received them. In addition, I worked for a retail bank for over two decades. Sadly for Altra, I know how all this works. What Altra is doing is posting the direct deposit on the "effective date" (the last legal date they have to actually post it), NOT when they actually receive the funds. This "the third of the month, blah blah" is absolute doublespeak. Why would Altra only receive "information" about a future direct deposit? In order to vacuum the floor and clean the windows? Altra, do you really think your clients are that stupid? In reality, you have my actual direct deposit and are holding the funds thus depriving me access to my money. What are you currently doing with my money? Gosh, Altra-you're shamelessly lying to me and any reader of this review. Is this the absolute best you can do? Honesty is certainly not your strong suit! For dear readers of this sad saga: I could not stop my direct deposit from going into Altra for the month of May. This has been resolved and I have opened an account with a local credit union (Fortera) that actually tells the truth AND posts direct deposits the moment they receive them. The month of May will be the finality of dealing with the pathetic excuse of a credit union (in name only) called Altra. With the myriad of problems affecting financial institutions these days, one should be very careful in where they place their money.

United States | 29 March 2023In February I received a letter stating that Altra does not have record of my insurance policy for a boat I purchased and fully insured in Jan 2022 .In the letter they encouraged me to fill the policy information online with proof of insurance. I found the insurance policy in my file with the latest policy statement and filled out the information. This is likely where things went south as I just pulled the latest renewal from the file and put in the current 12 month policy dates. I interpreted the notice to indicate that I needed to provide current coverage information, assumed they had the previous year with my initial boat purchase. I then received a letter a few weeks later stating that I needed to provide proof for the last two months of 2022 or $1150 would be added to my loan. I called my insurance agent and they contacted Altra with the information, which the letter indicated was another option instead of online. At that point I thought the issue was resolved, until I received a final notice letter in the mail today stating that I have 10 days from the postmark on the envelope to provide proof of insurance or $1150 will be added to the loan. I called Altra, but it was a 3rd party Altra has contracted to manage insurance. They said there was no record of an update from my insurance company. Called my insurance company again and hopefully this gets resolved. I'll be sure and get a written response this time. This is not what I expect from a local Credit Union and I will no longer just automatically go to Altra for my future banking needs.

The staff were more then helpful and with my interactions with Jeanne Struckmann, she went above and beyond to make sure everything was straightened out with my accounts. Thank you!

United States | 12 March 2023I want to access my account and the system will not allow me to. I followed all of the steps to regain access to no avail. Customer service is not available to reset an account after hours/weekends, so to say you offer 24hr service is a lie. I am sure you want your money right away, why is it customer/members must wait for our money? I would have not given any stars had it been an option.

It’s difficult to remember a bad experience, the staff has always been very helpful and easy to contact which means a lot. Their loan process is very easy and has helped increase my credit score which is a great bonus!

United States | 10 March 2023I went with Altra because they beat out my regular credit union by a percentage point on a recent motorcycle loan. I typically buy a new vehicle every 18 months or so because of the work that I do in the industry, so I was interested in saving some money with Altra. Ultimately, they were fine to work with for originating the loan, but in the months since, I would say that their payment portal and subsequent web services and customer service have been disappointing. Their payment portal is separate from their actual website, it's super confusing and not intuitive at all. Recently when I forgot my password I spent hours trying to get it to reset. This included having to call Customer Service because my account got "locked", having Customer Service tell me I was good to go, but had to manually reset my password on the portal. As soon as I hung up I went to try it, and was still locked out. Not wanting to spend another 15 minutes on hold, I sent over a quick email to which they came back a few hours later saying I would have to call again during work hours (it was now the night time). Here I am now, having the system tell me that they "sent me a password reset email" but with no said email showing up and I am going to get to call them again. I with I would have just stuck with PSECU as my Credit Union. They were phenomenal, easy to work with, and had incredibly easy-to-use payment tools. If I could do it over again I would HAPPILY pay the extra one-percent to not have to deal with Altra's confusing payment tools.
