United States | 20 February 2024TLDR: Unless you have a very specific, dark wish to emotionally torture your wife who is very pregnant with twins, do not, under any circumstance, work with Dumbo Moving and Storage. Read on if you're into learning about just how bad a moving company can be. In short, Dumbo Moving extorted me $900 while holding my items hostage at the destination. In early January, I provided Dumbo Moving with a detailed inventory list for an early Feb move. In response, Dumbo Moving provided a flat fee, locked in quote. Per the terms with Dumbo, as long as (1) my inventory didn't change the day of the move, and (2) the movers didn't get a ticket, the quote would be the exact amount owed, excluding tip. Dumbo Moving's quote was approximately 20% lower than competitors like Piece of Cake Moving, so I locked them in. On move in day, the movers show up and apparently were given the wrong job details by Dumbo Moving (the job details didn't include stairs or 60 bins). To be clear, I paid Dumbo Moving for the stairs and 60 bins, but Dumbo Moving didn't pay the movers. So, the movers refused to start the work until Dumbo Moving confirmed they will be paid for the right job. At first, Dumbo Moving refused to do so, and demanded that I pay the difference. After losing an hour, we all agreed I will pay a higher tip, Dumbo Moving will pay for the increased labor cost. The move finally starts. Approx 4 hours later, we're way behind schedule but eventually the movers finished packing. We all caravanned over to the new location (just 2 miles away). When we got there, the movers didn't start unpacking the truck. Instead, the lead handed me the phone and said "Dumbo Moving wants to talk to you". My heart dropped. George at Dumbo Moving proceeded to tell me that while my inventory list was correct, the size of my items were larger than expected. Therefore, I was required to pay an additional 900 dollars. I told him we'd discuss it later, after the move. George responded that the extra 900 dollars was required "in order for the move to proceed." I was dumbfounded and asked him to clarify. I pulled up my Dumbo contract and it was clear that the move was a flat fee move, and not based on square footage. Again, as long as my inventory list was correct, there would be no additional fees. George, in response, said "Yes, but in some cases, like yours, when the client takes up more space than we expect, we charge additional fees. For example, a client may have an extra wide dresser." We didn't have an extra wide dresser. Even if we did, this is a clear breach of the agreement. I kept, politely, arguing with George and stressing this was a flat fee move. Eventually George admitted that management was forcing him to do this, and if I didn't pay, they wouldn't unload the truck. I asked him to confirm that, if I didn't pay, he would have the movers drive off with all of our items, and leave me, my pregnant wife, and our two year old, to sleep on the bare floor in our new apartment (after a grueling 10 hour move day). George was silent in response. I've never been extorted in my life. Let me tell you, it's not a great feeling. I considered calling the police. I considered telling them to kick rocks and play a game of chicken. But, I looked at my pregnant wife and realized there was no way I could have her or my two year old sleep on the floor (it was also way below freezing that night). I paid the extortion fee and vowed to fight it later (and write a detailed review of my experience). As the day got later, the movers got more tired and more angry. They started vaping inside the common areas of my new apartment (which my landlord didn't appreciate). They scrapped the walls. The new apartment was a duplex, and 30% of the furniture and boxes had to go upstairs. They largely refused to do so. Eventually, we finished. I went outside to tip the crew. I grumbled that I should have gone with Piece of Cake. The lead mover said, "Wait, you hired Dumbo Moving after getting a quote from Piece of Cake?" I said yes. He turned to his crew, said something in Serbian. Then they all broke out laughing. I went back inside and made my two year old's bed and put her down. I made our bed, and my wife fell asleep crying. I emailed Dumbo Moving the next day. No response. I've been emailing them since. No response. Don't be a schmuck like me. Go with Piece of Cake Moving if you want competent movers at an affordable price (they will come do an actual in person inspection for your quote), go with Veteran Movers if you're willing to spend more but for the worry-free experience (and they are all vets!). Don't get extorted like me!

United States | 20 February 2024I had the most horrible experience with Dumbo. This company is an absolute nightmare! I used them to move from a 1 bedroom to another within the Harlem area (2 miles away). I was given a guaranteed price of $550 for 5 hours and $110 for each additional hour. According to the sales lady, "it shouldn't take longer than 5/6 hours". First, the guys arrived and start complaining about the number of boxes and the fact that i live on the top floor of a walk up. Both, which were communicated to the sales lady when making the appointment. It was a total of two guys and one of them was a total jerk. Extremely rude. He made it a point to complain throughout the entire process and called his office numerous times. These guys were completely clueless even tho everything was outlined in the agreement. About an hour into loading i am informed that the vehicle isn't big enough and they would need to take two trips. I specifically asked for a truck big enough for a one bedroom. After unloading, I'm informed that they will be leaving and not going back for the rest of my items. They had a "long day and were tired". Mind you, my bed was at my old apartment AND i had to be out of there that very same evening. The guys said they would continue in the morning and left. The following morning i called and was told they didn't have any availability til the afternoon and i would now have to pay $350 for two hours and $150 for each additional hour. They totally lied and took advantage of me! As a consumer, this is by far the worst experience ever. To top it off, when i filed a complaint with my credit card company i found out that someone in the company forged my signature and signed off on the "job completed" section. Apparently, they're not aware that it is illegal to do such thing. I ended up paying a total of $1,215 for a move that did not consist of ANY heavy furniture. I didn't have a couch, entertainment center, bookcase, tv, nothing of the sort. My mattress/box spring was the biggest item they moved. Stay away from this company!!

United States | 30 January 2024The entire experience has left me incredibly frustrated! Initially, I was promised three guys to move my baby grand piano, but only two showed up. They damaged a post outside my house during the process, and the piano sustained further damage because of its weight and inadequate manpower. Trying to claim has been a lengthy and unclear process, exceeding three weeks. I cannot recommend them unless you want your items damaged and frustration to follow.

United States | 09 January 2024WORST MOVING COMPANY IN THE USA PLEASE IF YOU WORK HARD FOR YOUR MONEY DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY FOR YOUR MOVE. Some people may have been lucky, their move went smoothly, You may not be as lucky. I had a contract with all of my items listed even measurement was provided before I paid the bill. The day of my move turned out to be the nightmare of my life, especially for a grandmother, they left me struggling to find a mover to the remaining of my belongings. THEY ARE SCAMMERS..

United States | 07 January 2024Unreliable. They’re only job was to get my contents of my apartment from one place to another and they lost so many different items. I did most of my packing and everything I packed got to my apartment. The day of the move everything they packed never made it. They are offering me $.60 per pound which is a crime. How are they not responsible? Beware of this moving company they are inexperienced and unorganized

United States | 21 November 2023The movers quickly unloaded the vehicle after reaching my new house. Furniture arrangement was given particular consideration by Gregory who made sure that every item was positioned in accordance with my tastes. While moving bulky objects like the sofa and dining table, he took extreme care to avoid scratching the newly painted walls.

United States | 03 November 2023At the top of the world with how my long-distance move turned out! Definitely surpassed all my expectations! I cannot be more grateful to them!

United States | 26 October 2023Their insurance options provided peace of mind during the move. Experienced movers!

United States | 12 October 2023It all kicked off with a big pre-move chat. Their rep swung by on time and took a real close look at all my stuff. They jotted down every detail, even noting my giant sectional sofa, the delicate glass dining table, and my custom-made wooden bed frame. They really did their homework, setting up a solid plan.

United States | 16 September 2023DO NOT USE! I had the painful experience of hiring Dumbo Moving Company to help move furniture that was donated to us to help us raise money for our mission, and I must say that it was an absolute disaster. I am not the type of person to leave a bad review online as I understand the weight and impact it may have on the business, however, my experience was not just horrific but one of the worst experiences of my life. We were recommended to Dumbo and had many conversations with Dino, who was very kind. We were originally told that the cost would be $745 to move this furniture (the moving distance was only a 10-15 minute drive). What happened next was nothing less than horrific. The "movers" who showed up were clearly NOT professionals. They did not have tools, blankets (which we were guaranteed they would have) and walked into the building without care. They started pulling and tugging at the desks (which were purchased for over $5K EACH!) and refused to speak to me about what was going on. I then called their office to speak to someone to better understand what was happening (I truly felt nervous that these were impersonators who were trying to rob us). I then spoke to someone name Arron who requested that we pay more money (almost $1K now total) for everything to moved. I asked him to have these people leave. First and foremost, their deficiency in professionalism was clear from the moment they arrived - this was outrageous. If we did not have a strict deadline from the building, we would not have felt the pressure to move the items that day. We had to send someone from our group to get tools for these movers and Aaron spent time on the phone with me to ensure these were professionals who would get the job done. Giving them that second chance was a HUGE mistake. These "movers" destroyed ALL of our furniture, shattered the glass dividers that were a part of these desks, had cut themselves in the process and continued to move broken furniture - now with BLOOD everywhere. Bolts and screws were missing or broken and over 50 thousand dollars of furniture to help us raise money for our mission was now gone. The movers begged me not to report them saying "they will make us pay for this" and then left in their truck... 15 minutes later, I received FORGED documents that were clearly photoshopped with a signature (that is no where close to mine) as if I had "signed off" on the delivery. The best part is that when shown these photos, the company acknowledged the horrific scene that was left and has done NOTHING to rectify this. They offered us $100 to "settle this", when we spent almost one THOUSAND dollars and lost 50 THOUSAND dollars of opportunity. Don't believe me? See the photos attached. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!

United States | 14 September 2023They told me one thing and then changed it last minute, on more than one detail, when it was too late to do anything about it with my move two days away. When I insisted upon them sticking to what they had agreed upon I was asked if I didn't need the move anymore. I was assured that if they didn't need the shuttle truck, that they strong armed me into paying for up front, then the fee would be refunded. When they were about to arrive at my new address I watched on the live map as they stopped three minutes down the street at a U-Haul. I called the phone number to ask about it and they lied to me saying they had another delivery(as if there would be two this close by on a east to west coast move). In actuality they were hurriedly loading my things into a U-Haul truck to go the last 3 minutes down the road to justify charging me for a shuttle truck. They were only there for less than 45 minutes and several of my things arrived damaged significantly, obviously from their haste. Nothing in the boxes I packed was broken I should mention, despite the moving guys practically throwing them in the least professional delivery I have ever seen. I got into a long chain of emails with them disputing the charge since, totally aside from their lack of professionalism and damaging my property, there was no need to transfer to a smaller truck. I have seen much larger vehicles turn fully around in the wide space of the parking area/street that goes through my apartment. Not only did they outright lie and deflect with every ticky-tack nonsense answer in the book, jumping from one reason to another when they didn't stick, but they literally insulted me openly and made fun of/blamed me for signing the contract. They settled with me for $500 dollars which pays for the fraudulent action of the totally unnecessary shuttle truck charge, which they wouldn't have done if I wasn't disputing their charge with Visa, but it still shows they know exactly what they did. They did get the job done and the price wasn't unreasonable but they were so unprofessional that I would have happily paid more to have not had to deal with them. I will be telling anyone who I ever run into who is looking for movers that might come across these guys to avoid them at all costs and have done so a few times already.

United States | 31 July 2023Efficient, great value, and reliable. I have worked with dumbo twice now — once from Philly to NYC and this year from NYC to San Diego. Both times, I have been blown away by the friendly and efficient moving service. Sales is very helpful and responsive. The teams of movers on the day of are consistently on time, extremely fast and very kind. The movers even helped us to pack extra stuff and throw away trash. During storage both times, we had to change our delivery address and the customer service has been super helpful in making adjustments. We couldn’t recommend Dumbo more for both short and long distance moves.

United States | 18 July 2023The manner in which their highly skilled movers handled all my glassware just made me want to skip around with joy. I am so glad that these hefty investments never got damaged or broken thanks to the commendable work of the movers.

United States | 13 July 2023my issue was not with the movers they did their job. my concern is with Hank and Emma who create the quote and booked the move. I told them i was moving 2 bedroom apartment with a dining room for a family of 4. the first quote was missing over half the items. I emailed my concerns. listed my items again. he doubled the truck size and said they movers would packed the day before. Halfway through packing the mover's advised all of our items would not fit into the truck. They move half of our items on Monday. And the rest would have to be moved on Tuesday our actual move date. They proceeded to charge us double the original quote. Hank even tried to charge another commission fee on the same move. I believe they massively underquoted on purpose to get you to book and then stick you up during your move when you have no choice but to pay. I confirmed twice the amount of items we had in our house. It was unprofessional and they put us in a terrible position because half of our stuff was moved and the other half was still waiting to be packed in our apartment. We paid over $4000 when the original quote was $2300. go with piece of cake movers they gave me a quote of $2900 with an walk-through. DUMBO MOVING ARE THIEVES AND DECEITFUL!!

United States | 08 June 2023Dumbo Moving made safety a top concern, and this was clear in every part of the move. Their well-kept trucks and experienced movers gave me confidence that my things would be taken care of.

United States | 04 June 2023In preparation for my move, I spoke to Luis at Dumbo moving numerous times to explain how much content I had to move and to ensure I had the correct service booked. He assured me everything was ready and set. However, on the day of the move, everything went wrong. The movers arrived and said that my content wouldn't fit into one van, despite all the preparatory calls! This meant I had to pay DOUBLE the original quote. In the end I accepted this as I had no choice but to move that day. After moving the first van of belongings (in a rushed and not at all careful manner eg no protectors for furniture) I am told that the movers need to go to another job WITHOUT FINISHING MY MOVE! Half my belongings in the new place, the other half in the old place. I was left completely in the lurch by Dumbo Moving who did not complete their commitment job! Moving is stressful and difficult, and Dumbo Moving only make it worse. Don't be tempted by the low prices!
