You can’t just take someone’s money for sending them wrong things. That’s so unethical and very poor business specially starting a new one.

United States | 22 January 2025My personal SmileDirect results were fantastic - I loved (and still love) my smile but, visiting SmileDirect locations to get scanned and rescanned for retainers was a hassle. My experience with Dr. Retainers / SmileSet (choose a name and stick with it, please!) has been great; no need for scans or impressions and I was sent new retainers based on my last scan (2023). The new retainers fit well and the "comfort cut" is a real benefit; absolutely no discomfort at the gum level. The retainers feel sturdy, well made and fit as expected. Premium case was a nice bonus - love the mirror.

United States | 21 January 2025I placed my original order in September 2024. It’s now been four months, and I still don’t have a proper fitting lower retainer. I submitted the second re-impression kit in December and when I still hadn’t received an email update, (almost a month later) I started reaching out to the company. There is no phone number to get in direct contact, so I use the chat function on the website. Each time I was told that my retainer was “still in production”. I’m not sure what’s going on with this company since they’ve changed names, but I’m not impressed with the timeliness of their production, communication or their customer service. Hopefully, my opinion will change if/when I receive my order.

United States | 21 January 2025I will not be able to use these retainers. The bottoms fit for the most part but it's like the top were made for someone whose teeth were twice as thick as mine. This gives me little confidence that Smileset would be able to correct this error. Additionally, Smile Direct (previous owner) had a smooth finish to the retainers- these new ones are jagged and feel like they were made by a cheap 3-D printer.

All of a sudden I started getting emails from SmileSet with no introduction or anything so I wasn't sure what was going on. I reached out to Dr. Direct Retainers and they said my order was processing, but didn't respond to my question about the change in company name. I did finally get my retainers, but it was almost two months after I ordered them.

United States | 21 January 2025This is my second set of retainers since SmileDirect folded (I had had one set made by them), then I had a set made by Dr. Direct, which is now SmileSet. First, I am very pleased with the speed at which I received my new retainers after ordering them--it was exactly a week since placing the order online and me receiving them in my mailbox, so bravo to SmileSet for that, as well as the good communication on the progress of my order (I was expecting them a few days later, per their email notice). I had ordered from Dr. Direct last June and by November, I was getting emails about time to reorder. My first retainers from SmileDirect lasted a LOT longer than these new sets. I was able to wear the SmileDirect ones for more than a year before I noticed any shifting of my teeth toward their original problem position. I do clench my teeth at night (which is when I wear my retainers), but even so, these newer sets (at least the one from Dr. Direct) do not seem to last as long--and they are more expensive than SmileDirect was. Another plus for these newer companies is that I did not need to do new impressions, which I always found nerve-wracking since the trays are way too big for my small mouth and it gagged me every time to take those 4 impressions. So, I'm thrilled not to have to go through that every time I need new retainers. I hope this newest set from SmileSet will last for more than six months before I notice my teeth shifting back, so we'll see. In any event, I'm glad to have somewhere to continue maintaining the progress I made under SmileDirect and without having to spend another several thousand dollars with a new company, when we were to have "lifetime" maintenance (and yearly touchups, if necessary) with the previous one. I look forward to any improvements as SmileSet evolves to meet customer needs.
