Just cancelled my renewal policy as they hiked up my renewal from £656 per year to £1,565 per year for a 8 year old dog. How did we get this hike ? I did one minor claim for a very small procedure to remove 4 tiny lumps which my vet in her clinician judgement was of the same issue. Luckily they wasn’t sinister but one claim which amounted to 4 paws making a separate claim per lump. My vet practice has never had to make this situation into separate claims when sorting. My daughter's veterinarian practice also never heard of this so beware of this insurance company. Lots of small print, minimal payout once you have to make a claim as they do an excess payment plus a 20% because my dog is over 7 per claim. The result … paid out measly £600 of a £1,100 vet bill just to hike it the following year more than double. No thanks. I rather put my own money aside for treatments. Too many clauses, small print and expensive cover to justify this company. ***UPDATE to Chloe response: we did have had a phone call with each other on 14th December so this reply doesn’t make sense. You do have my policy details as you re-sent paperwork for me to take this complaint up with the Financial Ombudsman

My beloved dog passed away on 14th June this year, and although having pet insurance I am still waiting for #4Paws Pet Insurance to pay the claim. this is now 4 months later and I still keep being told that due to the complicity of the claim it was referred to the underwriters #Covea and gets chased each week.... 18 months before my beautiful pooch passed away, I had taken her to the vets because she was drinking a lot of water and obviously urinating a lot. I changed her diet as instructed by the vet and for 18 months she was back to her normal happy and healthy self. That was until late May this year when she stopped eating and was diagnosed with cancer. I'm now being told due to the vet visit 18 months earlier that this was the start of the cancer and therefore a pre-existing disorder? I like many other people review insurance policies annually as instructed by consumer groups however do insurance companies now use any excuse not to pay out? My pet had an ear infection earlier this year so could the insurance company now say this was the start of her cancer and pre-existed heath issue and linked to her cancer? I have always had pet insurance and have never made a claim so I am shocked that having taken my pet to the vets for another completely different reason can now be classed as a pre-existing health issue and part of her cancer diagnosis which she eventually died from. My little girl was healthy, happy and full of life until she got cancer, Losing her broke me in two but I didn't expect this. so claim settled a week after posting this, but as well as paying the excess (£105 which I expected) there is also a 30% access on the full claim. Its stated as a time limited 30%!! not clear on the policy or the T&Cs. However end of this chapter and won't be using this company again. Although the staff have been very prompt and courteous in replying since I first posted on here and when I have called them.

This was my first experience with pet insurance and claiming and I was very happy with the whole process. I phoned 4Paws to ask a few questions and get a claim form following an emergency procedure required for my puppy. I was immediately put at ease as the call handler was very sympathetic and asked straight away how my pet was now doing. He answered my questions about the claim process and made sure my claim form was in my inbox before ending the call. I also got a text to say the form was in my inbox. The same call handler answered my follow-up call a little while later when I needed clarification on something when completing the claim form. When my vet submitted my claim form on my behalf I got a text to say it had been received and a mere 3 days later I got a text to say that the claim had been completed. It really took all the stress out of a very stressful situation to have an excellent and caring call handler, to receive status updates on my claim and to have my claim finalised so quickly and hassle free. It meant I could just concentrate on caring for my ill puppy. I highly recommend 4Paws based on my experience and would happily refer friends and family to them for pet insurance.

Choose a very expensive policy with extra cover for my puppy i wanted to ensure she was covered for all possible illnesses or accidents etc. i had to claim once (all went very smooth had great service) for some tummy issues that are now resolved. End of year comes and i receive my renewal it is an increase of almost 50%. My first call to an agent is extremely unhelpful and patronising and told nothing can be done and then try too scare me by implying my puppy will have difficulty being covered by most companies as she has ‘an existing condition’ im not offered any other advice and panic and cancel the policy (Note policy ends 2 days later and the charge was pending 3 days before on my credit card!) after research i can see i can get a policy covering ‘existing condition’ thats still less expensive than the renewal offered by 4Paws b it there will of course be still some restrictions. Decided to give them another chance and call back to ask for help. This agent is more helpful with their tone of voice but again offers 2 ‘solutions’ - 1. Pay the renewal. 2 start a new policy with them with ‘restrictions due to the existing condition’ they also sound like they are reading from a script and using repetitive phrases. Was offered to make a complaint and put on hold for their claims department to explain more on what’s considered ‘existing condition for my pet after her claim’ get cut off after 5 mins of holding and 50mins total duration of call. I cant afford the massively inflated premium (higher than my car insurance increase!) so now my pet is uninsured after today. Signing off with a quote from 4Paws website . ‘ “ If you are experiencing financial difficulties and are considering amending or cancelling your insurance policy(ies) with us and/or you may have difficulty with future premium payments, please contact us on 01423 535040 so we can discuss the situation with you and see what we may be able to do to help.” Dont bother calling they cant/wont help. ** payment has been taken from my credit card with out permission. Now need to call AGAIN to have them refund! * responding to Graham @4paws I’ve spoken to many of my pet owner friends and none have experienced such an increase. It was 112% increase!! It more than doubled!! It would appear that you do not want me to continue with my original policy as it offered me so much cover…. In fact the highest I could find! It’s clear you didn’t want to support the possibility that my pet could get sick again (hopefully she doesn’t) but that IS what insurance is for!! by forcing me to cancel she’s not not covered at all and should she experience any tummy issues of any kind even unrelated it’s likely another policy won’t cover it. I believe this is being called backed into a corner. I’ve already sent a complaint letter and I am awaiting the response.
