Some 5 months on since completing on my house purchase, I still haven’t received my title deeds/plan so I contacted Land Registry on 22nd March who told me that the application to register had not been received! As you can imagine, I was shocked to hear this and, for anyone who is not aware, you do not legally own your home until Land Registry has received the application. I immediately contacted both Homeward Legal and Louis Kennedy Solicitors to ask what the hell was going on and why the registration hadn’t been sent. I received a prompt email response from Lorraine Hoyte, Customer Relations Manager but, frankly, that is the only good thing I can say. Lorraine stated that she had been in contact with Louis Kennedy Solicitors, asked for my patience whilst it was looked into and promised to respond the following day. Louis Kennedy then tried to call me but I couldn’t take the first couple of calls and then did speak to Benny who made some fumbling apology that there had been a problem with the online Land Registry portal when he initially tried but basically, he forgot to follow through and admitted he hadn’t dealt with a Welsh property transaction before! So, if I hadn’t contacted Land Registry direct, makes me wonder how many more months would have gone by before Benny realised or, if ever! Lorraine Hoyte hadn’t responded the following day as promised so I emailed on 27th March, voicing my dissatisfaction and a request for compensation for the whole shoddy conveyance experience. I received a reply, no apology for what had happened and essentially told me I have to jump through further hoops and lodge a formal complaint with Louis Kennedy Solicitors which, is basically Homeward Legal wriggling out of any responsibility for placing me with Louis Kennedy and, as my contract was with Homeward Legal, they are the ones who should be investigating and supporting my complaints. As I’ve already written an extensive review of experience I don’t feel that I should be asked to write it all over again and the wait months for a decision!

United Kingdom | 06 April 2023I contacted Homeward legal to undertake a simple transfer of a percentage share of equity of my house to my husband. They first referred me to a company called pro conveyancing whom accepted the work took my deposit and then declined the work. It took my 3 months and threats of the legal ombudsman to get my deposit back. Homeward legal then gave my work to a company call pm property law who after accepting the work and starting the process failed to answer or return phonecalls or respond to any of my emails requesting updates. Eight months later they have now sent me an email stating they have completed the work along with an over inflated bill with charges for work they didn't undertake. Although I have successfully managed to get the bill somewhat reduced my advice would be to stay away from Homeward legal and any of the companies named in this review. I wish I had just gone to a local high street solicitors.

Being able to speak to someone at the weekend is also fantastic as a first time buyer, as I can't take calls during work hours. Everyone I've spoken to has been professional, and the fact we can carry forward our costs if our sale falls through is a huge piece of mind. The personal touch goes a long way.
