I went to Bali and took out Freely travel insurance. Read other reviews. Easy to get this insurance and you can have the option of after pay which i did not use. I did not use my insurance. But felt comfortable i had the insurance while in Bali. Will use Freely again in the future.

On the 29 of august 2023 my wife had a serious accident a cruise ship, she had to be evacuated back to Brisbane Without Freely insurance we would have had to sell our home to pay the cost of evacuation

We used Freely as we could choose how we would like to formulate our cover. We had to cancel at the last minute due to a family matter, we contacted Freely and once completing the insurance forms recieved all our monies back. Thank you Freely and when we plan on travelling again you will be our No# 1 choice. Keith & Marilyn

I had my bag snatched from me over 2 weeks ago. I lost my iPhone, MacBook Pro, drone and my wallet. I cannot access my banking without a 2FA code from my phone and I’m down to my last $35 and last night of accomodation. I will officially be sleeping on the streets of Thailand and Freely DO NOT CARE AT ALL. I submitted a claim including ALL required supporting documents as per the PDS, they came back to me and said “oh we need an itemised list” I provided it and was told “wait 13-15 business days for a response to that list” I have travelled to over 60 countries and have never, ever experienced this total lack of care and brutal neglect of someone in dire straits. Avoid this company like the plague, seriously do not do it to yourself.

What an ABSOLUTE SCAM these people are… with a little bit of a research you get to know that this company is a STARTUP, yes a STARTUP who claims to be “backed by Zurich” to give you a little bit more of trust but it’s all smoke and mirrors. Also, their Executive Manager has a sketchy and questionable past. RUN AWAY from these people, they get your money and don’t deliver anything apart from lie and hopes PLUS they use their crappy app to collect and sell your data. WHAT A JOKE! You have a claim? Too bad they won’t pay you anything, they just collect your money and breech your privacy by using your phone’s data they’ve collected about you.

Today, I've been told by Freely staff that the "North America" option for their policies does NOT cover USA or Canada! Why have a North America option at all? Please explain this further so everyone knows not to choose Freely if they are going to Canada or America.

I never buy travel insurance for personal vacations normally. I have grown up travelling and have already been to well over 140 countries and I’m only 30 years old. Yeah I’ve hit some bad times and good times in all my trips, from missing flights and losing luggage to having no issues at all. This last trip required me to travel around Europe for a month visiting over 20 places in less than 3 weeks. And many of the places had bad reputations for crime. Last time I was in Italy, in 2019, I was not far from where my dad is from in southern Italy and I got beat up and mugged for everything I own. SO, this trip I thought it really important to get insurance to protect me if anything happened. Thus my paying for Freely with extras for peace of mind. Nothing happened to me this trip and Freely kept me at peace the whole time, I felt genuinely safer and didn’t worry about walking down sketchy little streets or by myself at night. Freely did give me peace of mind. BUT at the end of the trip one of us got really sick, and we contacted Freely to figure out what to do or if they could help us post pone our flights to make sure we healed ok. They would not, and they didn’t help us find a doctor or tell us what they would cover. We saw a doctor in a pharmacy last minute, recommended by our hotel, and thank god we are both fluent in French because he spoke no English and we had no idea how to find an English speaking doctor. (In my eyes that’s something travel insurance should be able to help with). The doctor said that the person was sick but safe to travel home, so we packed our stuff up and left. Our first flight was late due to unforeseen circumstances and we missed our second flight. We had ample amount of opportunity to get home on time, but the airline support took 5 hours and by the time we saw someone they were all closed. And so we had to stay a night in Paris airport paid for by the airline. They couldn’t even give us food vouchers because everything was closed. They gave us a box of food but I was allergic to everything in it. We contacted freely in hopes that they could help with something, I had thought we were covered for this stuff too. I was wrong. They send us back to the airline. We got put on another flight for 24 hours after that flight and given just a meal voucher from the airline. Meaning we had to pay for 2 other meal vouchers and because it’s so last minute I didn’t get my special meals and couldn’t eat on the flights so had to grab my own food at my own expense for the first flight and had no option for the second flight because our layover in Singapore had no dairy free food I could bring on the plane. It wasn’t necessarily a hellish experience, I’ve been through worst for sure. But the sick person ended up being sick for a week after with 39 degree fevers and doctors saying they should have rested and eaten better in the beginning. Our bank accounts were in the negatives after the extra charges. Keep in mind how much more a euro 💶 is to AUD. Every expensive airport meal was double the price for us and not in our original budget. And freely did nothing. So honestly Freely is fine for peace of mind, but I feel like it was an insanely huge waste of money. In my eyes, insurance is support. Should feel like an Italian aunt not far away ready to house and feed you in case of any emergency. If you are sick she makes minestrone. If you are hurt she comes and gets you at the hospital. With food too probably. If you are robbed she yells at the police until it’s resolved. Freely is more like a dad who went out for cigarettes ten years ago and now sends post cards every 2 years asking for money. Idk I just didn’t feel supported or like my money was invested. I just feel like I threw out a bunch of cash I could have used to pay for food when I needed it. I do not recommend paying for this service. Honestly, when I was robbed in Italy in 2019 we had a difference insurance that was pretty awful but they at least gave us something in face of an emergency. And when I lost my medications they told me doctors to visit that spoke English and could help (even though I’m fluent in Italian too and didn’t need it). I’m not gonna say who they were I’m just gonna say go with another insurance because they will do something when freely won’t.

I'm in the middle of a claim and getting stressed because my airline cancelled my flight home. They haven't refunded me and I don't have enough money to afford the doubled price home. I only have 5 days before I need to leave Thailand for Australia. Please process my claim as this is an emergency.

I had the same experience as Edith. My claim was denied stating the reason as "We note that your policy was purchased without the optional benefit of a luggage cover limit. As your policy has no luggage cover, we are unable to provide cover for any costs claimed under the section of the policy headed Luggage." However, on page 9 of Freely's Product Disclosure Statement, it says I am insured for up to $10,000 for luggage as a mandatory benefit, with a maximum item limit of $750. Then on page 13, it clarifies that the additional Boost premium only needs to be purchased "If a single item is worth more than $750". So if you have a claim denied for the same reason, please know that it is just an outright LIE, and they're not fulfilling their legal obligations under their Product Disclosure Statement. UPDATE: Upon reviewing my claim, Freely have now agreed my claim is valid, and have approved it accordingly.

An initial misunderstanding was promptly resolved by Freely. I have no issues with them as an insurer.
