Belgium | 10 December 2021My Tax preparer was excellent! My case was complicated with lots of details over 3 years of returns. She kept track of everything although it took me months to get it all together and was very knowledgeable and kind! The tax questionnaire to fill out is well done as well.

Netherlands | 08 December 2021TLDR: Be careful with TFX. They don't stand by their agreements, write onerous cancellation penalties into their contract, don't make it right when they are at fault, manipulate their Trustpilot ratings, and play hardball with their customers. Current status (Jan 31): My account credit balance refund of $225 is still being withheld by TFX to pressure me to remove this review. TFX also attacked me on Facebook, implying that I tried to hustle them. The card dispute has been settled in my favour, so I have my money back. I have also left a review on their Facebook reviews page, reachable through the main page of their website. If you have any feelings about their conduct, that’s a great place to leave a reaction. Here is a brief timeline of events: Sep 18-24: I start the process of having TFX prepare my US Tax return and upload all my information. From the documentation I uploaded and emails with TFX, it is clear that TFX understands that I have TWO companies. Oct 11-12: After some delay, I get the engagement letter, with a total charge of $2,000. It includes ONE of each of the following line items, with cost, for: - GILTI GILTI Tax calculations - GILTI Tax Reduction Analysis (if necessary) - Form 5471 There is NO QUANTITY associated with each line item, so it’s NOT OBVIOUS at the time that this was only for ONE company, which becomes important later. I accept the engagement letter, and am then informed that: - the CPA had neglected to include a charge to file an FBAR ($75) in the engagement letter, - there was a charge to file the deadline extension of $50. - the minimum fee was $350, and the remaining $225 would be available as a credit towards the work remaining. I accept and pay the fee, and also let TFX know that I was concerned about the delay, having to remind them to get the process going again, and that an obvious and normal fee like the FBAR was missed from the offer. Dec 2: After having to remind them that the deadline was approaching, I get an updated engagement letter, with the overall cost INCREASED to $3,250, that now has TWO copies of the following line items: - GILTI Tax Reduction Analysis (if necessary) - Form 5471 It becomes clear that they had previously made the mistake of calculating the offer for only ONE company, instead of TWO. I wrote back expressing my dissatisfaction about the prior situation repeating itself, but worse, and that I would not have previously accepted a $3,250 offer. I asked to be put in touch with a manager to help resolve the situation, and asked that another CPA be assigned to my return because events so far did not leave me feeling confident that the return would be done correctly. Dec 3: The CPA responded that they would assign it to another CPA, but that the charge would remain $3,250. I had since researched other options, and I wrote back that: - I found missing a company to be a major oversight that had left me in a precarious position so close to the deadline, - the revised offer was not acceptable to me, - If they were not willing to honour their accepted offer, what would happen if there is a problem with my return later? - I had found another company to do the work for an acceptable rate, and - I requested a refund of the $225 credit still on my account Dec 7: I am informed that they would issue a credit of $225 to the card that I used to pay. Almost immediately after, TFX informs me that: - The refund would NOT be given - That the offer was a binding contract, that there was a 70% ($1,400) breakup fee that I would have to pay, but that they would waive it as a “special exception”. I inform them that I would be filing a dispute with my credit card company, and I would also let others know, and I leave the first version of this review on TrustPilot. Dec 8: I am contacted by a Principal with TFX, offering a refund of my $225, conditional on me REMOVING this review. TFX also leaves the misleading reply to my review that you may see below, implying that the increased cost is somehow caused by GILTI complexity, when it was in fact caused by them miscalculating when preparing their offer. I let TFX know that I was not willing to remove my review, and that I had filed a dispute with my credit card company. The TFX principal offers to do the work for the original quoted price. Since I have already engaged another company, and given the prior events, I no longer want to do business with them, and I decline, again asking for my refund. I guess my response angered him, because he responded that: - I was informed of the minimum service fee when I signed up (True) - They had agreed to do the work at a significant discount (True, but too late) Essentially take or leave it, but they would NOT provide the requested refund, and would provide the bank with supporting documents to fight the dispute. The saga continues…

Ireland | 07 December 2021I cannot recommend highly enough the service TFX provides for anyone who is looking for professional assistance in making their US tax returns while living abroad. I went through the streamline process last year filing for several previous years returns and FBAR declarations as well. This seemed daunting at first but with the help and advice of my tax preparer at TFX it all went very well. This was a great relief. I can't imagine there's a better service out there.

Australia | 07 December 2021I am a dual US/Australian Citizen living in Australia for the last 21 years. I have used Taxes for Expats since finding out I needed to file with the US IRS. They have always been helpful, diligent and fairly priced. I highly recommend them.

France | 03 December 2021After struggling to find a good firm to work with for years I landed upon TFX. I have nothing but praise for them. Having a business oversees can complicate the filing procedure but they make it essentially seamless. Highly recommend.

United States | 03 December 2021Found them to be a good company to work with. I like my accountant, and they did it for low cost. They won't hold your hand though, unless you need it. And you have to be patient. But if you do your own book keeping they're very good. They will bill you, but over all its one of the cheapest places I worked with. I would say its not perfect, but they're certainly very good. They seemed to make a mistake, and the IRS responded with a request for payment. No penalty was paid and the amount was very low.

Switzerland | 30 November 2021I have really enjoyed our experience with Taxes for Expats. The accountants and tax experts that we have worked with have been so knowledgeable and helpful. They were patient with all our questions regarding our personal expat experience and we feel confident that our taxes were done properly and we got good advice. The only improvement I would like to see would be for a more intuitive tax questionnaire website, but the things we had trouble with were resolved by the TFX team very quickly. Already looking forward to the ease of doing next years taxes!

United Kingdom | 30 November 2021I am someone who gets flustered when it comes to filing taxes. I found my experience easy, and the tax questionnaire is a brilliant way of gathering the information, unlike the check lists I have been handed in the past. Definitely recommend and will use this coming year as well.

Switzerland | 28 November 2021I have been using TaxesForExpats to do my taxes for the past 8 years or so. They are always very professional and make it easy with their online questionnaire to guide the process. They seem to know their way around expat taxes and I always get a refund. They also give good advice and explanations whenever I have a doubt. I would highly recommend them.

South Africa | 22 November 2021I have been working with different tax preparer for years of living outside the US. I switched to TFX, and not only was it the most smoothest and rewarding experience, but they made me realize past tax experts did not understand certain benefits expats have. I wish I had known about TFX a long time ago.

United States | 22 November 2021I contacted TFX to help me file an amended tax return. After my first experience with a different tax-processing company, working with TFX was an extraordinary difference in a positive way. I especially liked the high professionalism and great online tool TFX is using to communicate with its clients. I also appreciated very detailed but straightforward tax questionnaires. What's more TFX prices are very reasonable. Overall very pleasant experience. Thank you.

Australia | 19 November 2021My wife is a US/Australian dual citizen, that runs her own business. I've used TFX since 2018 to manage her complicated tax obligations and they've been truly awesome. They're super-systemized and very efficient with their work. This is what tax accounting should be like. I couldn't recommend them more for US citizens working abroad. Legends.

Sweden | 18 November 2021I have used TFX for several years now and for once I can finally say that a service actually does what they say they will, when they will, and how they will do it. They deliver on time & professionally every single year.
