United Kingdom | 24 February 2025I truly regret having lens replacement with Optical Express. It was a disaster from the day of the operation. I was made to wait for 6 hours and 30 minutes before I was seen. That's 6hrs 30mins after the scheduled appointment! I have had 12 appointments since the operation- 4 months ago. I've been suffering with blood shot eyes, gritty sore eyes, very dry eyes, swollen eyes, blurred vision- not only very uncomfortable but as a result giving me headaches and anxiety. Something I've not had to deal with prior to being butchered by Optical Express. After several post op appointments and several different rounds of eye drops Optical Express confirmed that the wrong prescription lenses were put into my eyes during the procedure!! They then continued other treatment methods of offering contact lenses with different prescriptions but they were also put in wrongly left to right and right to left. I couldn't read in turn unable to work. I couldn't even see number plates. I couldn’t drive. I wanted my eyes fixed. If i wanted lenses I'd have visited my optician. They ordered more contact lenses with different prescriptions after doing more eye tests but on the day of the appointment they couldn’t find it they therefore ordered more. Such a mess. I was never seen on time. I should have left and avoided all of this. After 12 appointments I am still wearing glasses- worse off than i was prior to the surgery.

United Kingdom | 24 February 2025The whole consultation experience left me with a bitter taste… There was no welcome and the waiting room is uncomfortable. The optometrist “Giles” was patronising when I questioned the price (£6k compared to the £3k advertised on their website). I had requested a consult for LASIK but they pushed and pushed for me to have lens replacement surgery. He spoke over me consistently and was excellent at asserting his superiority over my informed knowledge. The Patient Advisor who carried out my eye tests had to ask a colleague to assist, because she didn’t know how to perform one of the scans. Her colleague came into the room chewing food, while talking her through the computer programme. During this, I was sat at the scanning machine while she figured out how to use it! This gave me zero confidence, what if she had made a mistake during the scan? Would the surgeon be using this scan? The whole consult was unprofessional and a complete waste of my time. Be warned, they place a hold on your card for £50 if you fail to show up for a consultation. However, they will call you the day before to tell you the price on their website is wrong and is actually £3-4k more than advertised! Knowing full well I would never pay that, I had to go to the consultation to avoid being charged £50.

United Kingdom | 24 February 2025Although the care and staff and op went very well, my slight is pretty awful. I only had a +1.5 reading prescription and that’s all that bothered me. I couldn’t read my messages on my watch and texts I always needed my glasses. Recovery has been awful. My eyes and permanently blurry and it’s like I’m looking through a lens with Vaseline on that I can’t clear. Colours aren’t as bright. And text on my phone or written down is grey not black. Sunlight is impossible to tolerate without sun glasses, even cloudy days are a struggle. Night vision is awful. Halos round lights so driving is horrible. Yes I can read my watch. Yes I can read my phone. But honestly my far vision is worse so they say I might need a laser treatment as a top up. Young adult Perfect health. Totally regret this treatment. Totally. I just hope this improves because it’s exactly the same as the day I had surgery.

United Kingdom | 23 February 2025It is my personal opinion, having read many online studies, personal accounts, newspaper articles a book, all of which you can find if you search, and recommendations put to the FDA, OE underplay the risks you are taking with your only precious pair of healthy eyes. I consider that had a lucky escape, cancelling LASIK surgery after finding the relevant information myself. OE refuse to refund my £500 deposit*, despite what I personally consider to be misleading information in brochures and appointments, which I have reported to the advertising standards authority. I put more information in my original review, but OE instantly flagged it as defamatory, so I have reworded and taken out the pasted information. Please, for the sake of your perfectly healthy eyes DO YOUR RESEARCH before letting them cut into the most highly ennervated part of your body. It's just not worth the risk. I am not the only person who thinks this. *OE have refunded my deposit in full since time of writing.
