The day of the surgery I had to be at Harley st for 11am. Obviously there were pre tests etc but my surgery did not take place until after 4pm. At no point did anyone tell me they were running late or why. The communication was non existent. No one at any point came to see me about the delays or even apologised! I had no food with me as I was told it would be 3 hours and was really hungry. There is nothing there apart from tea making facilities and biscuits. Considering how much the surgery cost this I think is really poor patient care. My sister was told to come back at 1.30pm when the procedure would have been completed. This was far from it as I was still waiting. Even when I was prepped for surgery I was still kept waiting and one of the assistants said he would go and fetch the surgeon. All of which added to my anxiety and the not knowing. The procedure in my first eye was really painful and I wondered if the first lot of anaesthetic had worn off as it was administered at midday. I was therefore given a pain blocker in the second eye which has left it extremely bloodshot and sore. The poor communication continued when trying to book my aftercare appointment the next day in Kingston where nobody seemed to know when they were open. Individually some of the staff were really lovely but as a company their patient care leaves a lot to be desired and it felt like a money making business rather than a caring medical company. I had to chase up my appointment, follow up and even payment as well as being given conflicting advice about removing my contact lenses prior to assessments. So be prepared for a long wait and take a packed lunch if you’re going after 10am.

In 2009 I had laser eye surgery with optical express and 1 hour after returning home was told to keep out of the light for the rest of the summer evening but the temptation to see how good the new eyes after laser surgery I looked from my flat window at the parked cars and tryed to read the number plates well the surprise was unbelieable and exciting I could read every car number registration with ease it made me so bloody happy with relief knowing my eyes were like a new set of eyes been given to me the best investment you could spend on health fantastic , now 16 years later im soon be sixty and now would consider lens replacement so that i can read anything with out having to rely on reading glasses , just hope it isnt a disaster like the failed to turn up for the correct time ,and billed 50 pound because there wasnt the sign on the building at leamington PS please dont move from that address and then not put signage up very unlikely i guess hopefully a good expericence fingers crossed

I had a lens replacement consultation at the Dunfermline branch. Laura put me at ease straight away, the whole team were friendly and informative. Everything went smoothly and I received all the information I needed, I booked the surgery then and there, can’t recommend them highly enough.

I had LASIK surgery at Optical Express in December 2024 at the age of 21, hoping to improve my vision after years of wearing glasses with a prescription of -5.5. I had known about the surgery for a long time but delayed it due to the cost. Eventually, based on friends’ recommendations and positive reviews, I decided to go ahead with it and financed the procedure, which cost me £4,500. Before the surgery, I had a consultation where the risks and benefits were explained. I was told most patients achieve 20/20 vision or better, and the most common side effect was dry eyes for a few months — something I thought I could manage. Initially, I was happy with the results. I could finally see without glasses, although my eyes were very red and sore, which I knew was normal. I made sure to rest and follow the aftercare advice. However, things got worse over time. I developed severe dry eyes — something I had never experienced before. My eyes constantly felt like they were burning, and my vision kept fluctuating. I contacted Optical Express and was told it was normal and temporary. They gave me stronger eye drops and reassured me it would improve. But after months of no improvement, I returned for more help. Over a year later, I’m still suffering from dry eyes, and I finally went to see my own optician for a second opinion. I was shocked to find out I’ve developed astigmatism in both eyes — something I didn’t have before the surgery. My vision has deteriorated to -1 in one eye and -1.5 in the other, and I now need to wear glasses again, even for driving. I’m extremely disappointed, especially considering how many people had great experiences. I feel let down by Optical Express, especially as I’m still paying off the £4,500 in finance for a procedure that didn’t deliver what was promised. I regret going through with it and wish I had more honest information about the long-term risks. That said, I’m willing to work alongside Optical Express if they are able to offer a solution or provide further support to help improve my situation.

Good experience from clinical staff. No compaints about the standard of my medical care. However the finance team refused to accept guarantee of payment from my health insurer and insisted I pay for treatment upfront. Now they are unable/unwilling to provide me with an invoice so that I can be reimbursed. Be very careful if you are using Optical Express and funding treatment through health insurance!

Terrible aftercare service. Original surgery was 14/05/2024. Been going for nearly 1 year since surgery. I always have to chase them they never contact me first. I had to go back and see the surgeon but he had left Milton Keynes where I had surgery so I was offered London or Southampton....I live in Northamptonshire! I did a trip to London via train all at my own expense. Round trip of 7 hours. Saw the surgeon who examined me. He wanted to do another test but couldn't as my pupils had been dilated so I had to return home and 2 days later had to go to Milton Keynes...a round trip of 70 miles for a 15 minute test. They then told me they had sent the results to the surgeon. That was a month ago and I have heard nothing! So yet again I am going to have to chase the results. I have not had anything offered towards all this inconvenience and stress. Just Terrible.

I had lens replacement surgery at the Chelmsford clinic. The whole process from start to finish was amazing. The team at Ipswich front office were very thorough and informative and helped making the decision to go ahead with the surgery easy. On day of surgery I was of course nervous but the ladies on the front desk were so welcoming and friendly and helpful. The various staff who saw me fur the checks prior to my surgery were lovely and the team looking after me during my procedure were wonderful. Checking in on me the whole way through, my surgeon was informing me of every step of the procedure assuring me and making the whole experience a good one. If you are ver considering any type of eye correction procedure I cannot recommend Optical Express Chelmsford enough. Thanks to the whole team

I had a lens replacement consultation at the Brighton Store. It was really clean & modern with extremely sophisticated machines used for the very thorough eye tests Avesta & Nektare made me feel welcome. They helped reassure me and answered all my questions in great detail. I never felt rushed at any stage. I came away with a full understanding of the procedure. They are both lovely ladies & I can't recommend them highly enough.

Bought nice sunglasses in the St Enoch’s Centre branch. Found a nicer pair than I saw anywhere else around Glasgow and the staff member was very friendly and helpful.
