United Kingdom | 14 December 2024If I could give no stars and be able to leave a review I would. Absolutely shocking the rip off in there. I took my jewellery chain and full sovereign coin 22ct in to be priced, I already knew the scrap value was £826 today and was offered £520. They would not admit the value they priced on the 22ct sovereign stating they already offer more then normal. After working it out - £240 for a full sovereign full hall marked is shocking. It's worth £481 at scrap so even more at retail. Never will use them again. 30 sec walk around the corner to the gold emporium and was greated with a smile and offered £700 very quickly and fully explained the price per item

SUSAN THOMPSON
United Kingdom | 13 December 2024Scammed by H&T staff at Waltham Cross shop. On Saturday, 18th May 2024, I took my 9ct Curb chain necklace and 9ct locket to H&T pawn shop, Unit 78, The Pavillions Shopping Centre, Waltham Cross. The items were checked and weighed by H&T staff and I agreed to pawn the articles for £220. I was then given an agreement and a receipt where my curb chain was correctly described as a CURB chain on both documents. On Monday 21st October 2024 I returned to the shop to redeem my articles. I paid the outstanding balance and after a few minutes a member of staff went into a back room and returned with a small plastic bag and handed me the contents. Taking the contents out of the plastic bag, which was not sealed, I immediately noticed that the items I had been given were not the same items I had placed in pawn on the 18th May 2024. I pointed this discrepancy out to the staff member, saying, "Excuse me, this is not my chain or locket." The staff member replied, "They must be yours, they were in the bag." I replied, "They are definitely not mine. My chain was a curb chain. That is not my curb chain and that is not my locket." After a prolonged discussion, with the shop staff insisting that they were the articles I had pawned and I insisting that they were not, I was told by the H&T shop staff that they could do nothing to resolve the issue in store but that I should take the two items and then make a complaint to H&T complaints department. By this time my male partner had arrived and I explained the problem to him. He examined the chain and immediately confirmed that the articles were not mine. To prove it he then asked the staff to weigh the articles in front of us and their scales showed the total weight to be 13.05 grams and not the 13.09 grams as recorded on the loan agreement and repeated on the receipt. The staff then tried to explain this loss of weight due to the air conditioning in the shop. After more discussion the H&T staff began to ignore our protests and kept repeating that they couldn't do anything and that we should take the items and make a complaint to H&T head office. My male partner then asked the staff, "Is this a scam?" A question that the staff never replied to. We then left the shop with the chain and locket that were not mine and then contacted H&T complaints department by way of email. My complaint was acknowledged on 23rd October. Ref no; 13216. In an effort to prove my complaint I then sent H&T photographs of me wearing my own curb chain and locket so that they could be compared to the articles I had been given. Those photographs were never acknowledged. I also took the chain into another H&T pawn shop in Wood Green High Street where the manager confirmed that the chain I was showing him, the chain I had been given by H&T Waltham Cross, was NOT a curb chain but was in fact an Anchor chain, a completely different style. Yesterday, 12th December, I received an email from H&T titled, FINAL RESPONSE. It reads as follows; Dear Ms Thompson, FINAL RESPONSE Thank you for your Email received on 21/10/2024 regarding your complaint, we are writing to confirm our final response. Your complaint is regarding a necklace and pendant you picked up from our Waltham Cross store, you have advised they are not the items you originally pawned with us. The assigned manager has now fully investigated your complaint. We can see on your account when you pledged the item the weight was 13.09 grams and when you redeemed the items the weight was 13.05 grams, as explained by our town manager at the time, this is well within the tolerance level and the difference was only 0.04 grams, our tolerance level for the scales is 0.1 grams. The town manager also explained the air conditioning can effect the accurate reading of the items on the scale. The difference is minimal in this case. We have conducted an investigation in store to ensure no items were mixed up and reviewed reports completed at the end of trading on 18/05/2024, when the pledge was initially completed to ensure that there were no discrepancies. There was also a clerical error as your item was described as a curb chain, when in fact it was an Anchor link chain, very similar to a curb with a line between each link the only difference. We have given further training to the staff member who completed the pledge transaction to ensure this mistake is not made in the future. When you collected your pledge, you signed to confirm that the item was correct. (NOT TRUE) We can see you pledged this item several times before in2021, 2022, and 2024. We have experienced issues with you and others you have visited the store with who have acted disruptively in our store. (NOT TRUE) This is not tolerated. Conclusion Based on the above findings we do not uphold your complaint. Yours sincerely, Miss N Swords Compliance Officer NB. Ms SUSAN THOMPSON wrote the above review.

United Kingdom | 13 December 2024A big thank you to John and Wendy from H&T Chalk Farm for their expertise and understanding. They were both incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to deliver excellent service. They obviously have a lot of care for customer satisfaction and genuinely made my visits very pleasant. Highly recommended!

United Kingdom | 11 December 2024I had a generally positive experience with H&T Pawnbrokers. The staff at their Southall, Kilburn, and Hatfield branches were attentive and friendly, making my visits pleasant. Even during challenging times like the pandemic and personal illness, they took great care of my items. The team, including the Hatfield store manager, has been consistently helpful and accommodating. I appreciate their service, although I hope to find a loan with a more competitive interest rate in the future. Overall, their excellent customer service makes me inclined to return, and I would recommend them to others in need of pawnbroker services.

United Kingdom | 11 December 2024Bought a necklace for just over £1600 from the granger Street store . A few months later it broke so I took to a jewellery store in Newcastle to get a bigger catch put onto it. Never have I been so embarrassed in my life to be laughed out of the store for having a FAKE necklace. 70% copper 30% zinc . They did return my money when I went back to store and they did there own test which took a week but how many more people are buying FAKE gold for real hard earned money . No sorry for the embarrassment or the fact they conned me just "a few do slip through" so clearly not the first time this has happened. I'm lucky to have have been able to find out and get my money back. No compensation for heart ache and embarrassment and no sorry for what they have done. Please please please get your jewellery checked if bought from HandT pawn brokers . Especially on granger Street newcastle . The extra details you require are in the review. My name is Miss S Stewart. The store was on granger street . Can I ask why I'm not allowed to go to trading standards like your employee told me . Where not at that stage yet . Selling fake gold is that stage I would think

United Kingdom | 05 December 2024Wow, what to say. I ordered some Euros from the Brighton Branch and the service was almost instant, I picked them up just half an hour after placing the order and the staff were incredibly friendly and a joy to do business with. Cannot fault them, also if anybody from the company is reading this please pass on my complements as I know front facing staff get little credit for the jobs they do. Especially for the young woman who was wearing a Christmas skull top as she is an absolute star.

United Kingdom | 02 December 2024I believe I was racially profiled at the 3 Woolwich branches as well as the one in Lewisham, where an employee resembling a questionable version of Gary Neville, who had a tattoo on his neck, treated me with undue suspicion while I sought to verify a family heirloom. It took me three days and visits to four branches to get the help I needed. If you have a valuable item, I recommend going to an independent broker for superior service. Unfortunately, as a Black individual, I suggest considering other options for your business.

United Kingdom | 02 December 2024went to sell some 18ct gold, Poor rude staff in you’re scunthorpe branch, lack any kind of knowledge and when asked about the rates for euros they flat out told me to go up the high street to ramsdens as they have a much higher rate, (which funnily enough i did and ended up selling my 18ct gold too them)! don’t WASTE you’re time with these lazy rude staff.. H&T = HORRIBLE & TERRIBLE
