United Kingdom | 06 January 2015Icelandic Mountain Guides were so good and the guide was really funny and informative. We were an older group so he let us play around and do some technical moves. I loved using the ice pick and walking around on crampons.

United States | 06 January 2015I worked with Monica at Icelandic Mountain Guides to create a 5-day trip for myself and my daughters. We ended up with an itinerary that was perfect for us. Our guide (Vidar Helgason) was terrific - knowledgeable, quickly learned the types of outdoor activities we liked, flexible and extremely competent. Overall one of the best trips we've ever taken. We've already recommended Icelandic Mountain Guides to others.

United States | 06 January 2015Honestly one of the best experiences of my life. Did this by myself and had an amazing time. The tour guide was brilliant, extremely helpful, and had a great attitude. Walking on top of a glacier is one of the most incredible feelings and makes an amazing travel story. Good price as well with this group. Highly recommend.

United States | 06 January 2015This was the highlight of our very busy Iceland trip. We had the somewhat unusual experience of a 2 guides for the 3 of us hikers (I think because of the type of ice screws) so all the attention one could hope for. Viatese was a fabulous guide - knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend this experience and this company.

Germany | 06 January 2015We were a group of two with one guide for us at that time. Was a great story - lot of fun on and in the ice.

United States | 06 January 2015nice guide, but a bit of an old women, Seemed like others were doing a lot more than we did. He kept saying, those people must rent their jeeps! When we took some video's of some of the other jeeps, he even asked us to send it to him to put on his website!!! Gorgeous country though and we did have a pleasant day.

United Kingdom | 05 January 2015Fantastic landscapes and great guide that really cared about our safety. The food was really good and cook also very friendly. The accomodations were also good. I have recommanded your company to friends that went to a different tour and were also very happy. The guide was friendly. It would have been perfect if more information was shared about the geology of the visited area and Iceland in general. Overall very good trip and value for money.

United States | 05 January 2015We had a great time on this tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. Walking on a glacier was one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland.

United Kingdom | 05 January 2015The family, 2 adults, 2 teenage boys, did the 4 hour trip. It was well organised with a good emphasis on safety. The guide was well informed and assessed the needs of the group well so everyone achieved what they wanted to from the trip. It wasn't very strenuous at all. We had a great game of ice rounders up on the glacier - really fun. It is expensive but is the only way as a tourist to experience this wonderful part of Iceland.

United Kingdom | 04 January 2015We really enjoyed stopping off at Skaftafell and spending a while on a nearby glacier. The guides were all very friendly and it was fun despite a bit of rain. Inevitably in a large mixed-ability group, it took a while to do things - this wasn't a problem, but it might have been good to walk a bit further, so if you are fit/keen one of their longer trips might suit you better.

Finland | 04 January 2015I book clacier tour three months before my arrival to Island. The day before my tour, they spotted poisonous gases at the area and have to canceld that tour. I was offered an upgraded jeeptour insted, no extra charge. Our guide Valdemar was enthusiast, funny and great storyteller. Our company got lot of information about Island, not only the landscape put history and people as well. I join unforgetable day with Icelandic Mountain Guides. .

Germany | 03 January 2015The tour starts and and ends at Reykjavik domestic airport, this is why the tour is more expensive than other tours where you have to organize the flight to Greenland on your own. From the 12 days the first and the last include the flights (2h) and the boat trips (2h) to/from the camp sites. So it is 140 km for 10 days = 14 km/day... shouldn’t be that tough? Actually, hiking without a path over big stones can be very demanding, especially if you don't use hiking poles. Hiking was up to 10h per day...but you can enjoy a unique landscape. You stay in a two-person tent with doors on both sides (good idea!). Meals are prepared in the big tent which fits all of the group for breakfast and dinner. All food that was missing during the tour was ordered via satellite phone and transported to the group within 1-2 days. Both tour leaders did a very good job, last but not least supplying the group with plasters for blisters. Personal equipment list: The list given on the homepage is good, but if you go to a place like Greenland it should be perfect: Hiking poles must be moved from „optional“ to „essential“ in that rough terrain. I don't think you really need a balaclava, but at least a knit cap that protect your ears is very useful. The backpack must be big enough for sleeping bag, mattress and cloths for the last 2 nights in the hut on the montain, 30 liters might be a little too small. Icelandic Mountain Guides equipment: Almost everything was fine, with only a little space for improvement: The crampons were old, difficult to put on, and sometimes got loose when walking over the glacier. Not a big issue, since the glacier was not slippery in August. In my group there were 11 participants and 2 tour leaders what was OK for the big tent...but it might become a little overcrowded when there are 14 participants. Plastic cups: Too small for a tee...but you can use two cups for one tea bag...or bring your own cup. Would be nice to have a little map of the tour already on the homepage to know where you are hiking. Some more additional facts: Just in the camp at the end of day 4 you have a little cell phone coverage (with iPhone 4). There is a good chance to see polar lights if your trip is in August. On my tour there was no rain at all and just a few clouds, so a got a sunburn. On a scale from 1 (easy) to 5 (hard) this tour is rated as a 3 (challenging). I would definitely say it is a 4 (demanding). All in all it was a very impressive tour, but before you book it, keep in mind that it is very different from hiking in Iceland or Scandinavia.

United States | 03 January 2015My daughter and I did a 2 hour glacier hike on Svínafellsjökull in June 2014. The weather conditions were horrible, with wind driven, torrential rains, but they ran the hike anyway. We were so glad as this was our last full day in Iceland and we would have hated to miss this site. Our guide was absolutely fantastic. He kept the hike so lively and informative that we barely noticed the weather, except to occasionally make fun of it. I would recommend this guide service to anyone planning a trip to Skaftafell National Park in Iceland.

Canada | 03 January 2015I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed the trip a lot. Our guide, Yon Yngvi, was very informative and competent as guide, cook and Land Rover driver. I still can't beleive all the rivers we crossed. You can be proud of your country. Thank you very much Ghyslaine Dufresne

United States | 02 January 2015IMG had two groups for the Laugavegur hike, each with a guide. Our group had a few very out-of-shape inexperience hikers who were smokers, tired easily and were unsteady on their feet, which required the guide to assist them up and down every incline and frequent rest stops. The fit, experienced hikers were forced to go at an unnatural and uncomfortably slow pace and often got chilled and stiff waiting for the slow hikers to catch up (e.g. what should have been a 4 hour hike turned into a 6 hour hike). For the first two days of the hike, a small group of experienced hikers got increasingly upset and angry that we had paid so much money for what was turning out to be a very frustrating and unsatisfying hiking experience. We tried to walk with the other guide's group but was told, rather rudely, that we had to stay with our own group. On the third day, we simply broke away from our guide's group and hiked at our own pace, taking care to be with the other guide's group for any river crossings for safety's sake. My recommendation would be that, after the first day, the two guides should have re-assessed the hiker skill levels and how the groups were organized and combined the two groups with one acting as lead guide and the other as a sweep guide so that everyone could hike at their own pace. But their inflexibility came close to ruining a magnificent hiking experience. IMG should also take more care in making sure that the prospective customers are more aware of the conditions under which they will be hiking and the level of fitness required. Aside from this issue, the guides were knowledgeable, and the accommodations and food were very good but I would think twice about doing another guided hike with IMG.
